@TrueFocusEyeCare Жыл бұрын
It is not true that glasses will take all the glare away. Glasses will help clear things up, but the glare can last for a while after surgery. Often times glare and sensitivity to light can be an issue becuase your cataract acted like an internal sunglasses, blocking the full amount of light that enters the eye. Now that your window is perfectly clear, all that light can enter, and your eyes are not used to it. It does get better over time, but it does depend on the implant that they used and your natural sensitivity given to you by your genetics.

@elizabethvelez7435 Still, I do find it disturbing that they thought they didn't have to take her seriously because she had dementia. You do feel some pinpricks and some people don't become agitated by them (I am one of those people). But others do. Have you ever seen someone scream when their eyebrow was being plucked for the first time? The slightest thing sets some people off. And plucking your eyebrows does hurt but not in the way that being bashed does, yet some make a fuss about the way the first hurts. They should have had her sleep for the procedure.

I had one eye done last week and the next day it was 20/25 though he said my cornea was swollen because I also had astigmatism correction at the same time and it will likely improve even more. But that is a miracle alone. I am having the other one done tomorrow and really looking forward to the outcome. But I was terrified for the first operation. Well, I felt silly after it was so quick and painless. I was wide awake and didn't even signal for anesthesiologist to give me more because I was actually fascinated with what was going on and ended up pretty much chatting with the doctor throughout the procedure. You see all kind of bright colors melting together while it is going on. All that was missing was a psychedelic soundtrack on their overhead. I am having a bit of trouble now adjusting to not being able to read without glasses, but the tradeoff is well worth it when you could barely see 10 feet in front of you without super powerful glasses.

I had surgery on my left eve on 3/3/20 and I was having problems seeing clearly, afterwards so when I went back a week later a checkup showed that I had swelling on my retina and that I would have to go out of town about 2 weeks later for some shots to reduce the swelling. In the meantime, the Covid was just getting going full swing and I cancelled my trip because I was afraid to catch it at my age of 84. I finally received my vaccinations in Jan. & Feb. 2021, but then my son developed a terminal cancer and I had to take care of him until he passed away in June 2021. By the time I was able to get back for a checkup, it was too late to do anything about my Left retina and because of scheduling, it was 12/7/21 before I could get the surgery on my Right Eye and I am not happy with the results because everything I look at is distorted and when I look at a vertical line, like a door edge, there seem to be bulges that are not really there. Hopefully this can be corrected, but my hopes are not too high.

Unfortunately, the longer swelling within the retina remains, the harder it is to return it back to normal. Let's hope it can be reduced with treatment. Sometime if caught early enough, it can be reduced simply with drops.

FYI for anybody contemplating cataract surgery: you get to select whether you want good distant vision or good close up vision. There is, however, another option. If you want both close and distant vision, those lenses are not covered by Medicare, so I was out of pocket $6300 for these lenses. Thus, I know what it's like to select the lenses that supposedly give you both near and far vision and I can tell you folks from experience...don't do it. You won't be happy even after putting out a lot of money. I can see very well in distant vision, but for close up I still have to wear reading glasses. It's not worth the extra several thousands of dollars.

Apparently around 1% of those who have their natural lens removed can see into UV a bit. LizardMane, cataracts can occur at any age, depending upon the cause. Now I am practically blind in the eye that had the cataract surgery and retina detachment. The surgeon who did the cataract surgery wanted to do both eyes at the same time. The cataracts were just in very early development. Thank God I only did one eye. However, I may need to get another cataract surgery in the next few years because my glasses prescription has changed (increased correction) in just a year. Now I'm terrified.

If you didn't get the surgery, the cataracts would have just gotten cloudier where even simple tasks would have been impossible to see.

I had my cataract surgery 2-1/4 years ago. The whole procedure went great and as stated in the video. The doctors, nurses, and I were talking through each surgery. In fact, about a week after my first eye was done, I was champing at the bit to get in and get the 2nd one done. I had a choice of the eye drops I was to take after the surgery. If I opted for the single combination drops, it would cost me $70 out of pocket. So, I opted to take the different drops. That was annoying to say the least. When I got my other eye done, I took the combo drops. I recently had my 2nd annual checkup. 20/20 and I couldn't be happier. The doctor was so pleased that I won't go in for another examination for 2 years. BTW, I opted for far vision. Off the shelf reading glasses work great. When I'm driving in bright sunlight, off the shelf sunglasses are all I need.

I had cataract surgery on both eyes 4 years ago. I lived in Australia at the time and the ophthalmologist suggested I have a long-sighted lens in my left eye and a short-sighted lens in my right eye and my brain would do the adjustments for me. Ever since i have had perfect distance and close up vision. I don't need glasses for reading or for anything. I moved to Ireland and had to have an eyesight test to change my driver's license and the optometrist told me that I have absolutely perfect vision. Why is this method not used anywhere else?

In 2010 I had both of my eyes treated for cataracts. For some 40 years I was very nearsighted and had worn both contact lens and glasses for correction. This all changed when I began a new relationship with one of the foremost opthomologists in the Orlando area of Central Florida. Each eye corrective surgery was a week apart and was done at an outpatient facility and both eyes were numbed using numbing eye drops leading to the ultimate procedure. The entire procedure lasted less than 30 minutes per eye and I returned home and rested the balance of the day. My vision prior to the eye surgery was 20 / 1000 and after the surgery returned to 20/20 where it has remained for the last 12 years. I had my vision corrected for distance vision so I now wear inexpensive readers. The entire procedure was painless, effective and permanent. I did need the additional YAG laser procedure but that corrected the haze that this doctor discussed. That too worked fine and was quick and painless.

So after my both eyes cataracts surgery, about 3mo got the YAG done, I had no cloudy vision but Dr said film was there. Then at 2 year mark until today 4yrs from cataract original surgery… told I have severe dry eyes. My vision is cloudy 80% of my day. I’ve done all drops 6-8 times a day as recommended from drops to gel & to ointment nightly. Even with warm compresses no improvements. I cannot afford Restasis or Xzydra at $800 for a month of 2 drops daily. I cannot believe those drops are so much money! My insurance as good as it is won’t cover them. I drive for a living & this has ended my 40 year career team driving with my spouse - so we both are loosing our jobs. Is there anything else I can do - my Dr’s got my $10,000 for surgery & now are not able to do anything more? I feel blind, I cannot drive at night & will certainly not pass my eye examination. Just feel hopeless & robbed blind!

Wow! I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, there is no going backwards, so what can be done now to help. Well, if doing warm compesses twice a day did not help, then you could try getting omega 6 supplements, they are great for dry eyes and have a anti-inflammatory effect that helps with the dry, gritty feeling. There are also programs and discounts that could be used for the drops that you spoke of. Look at their websites and see if you qualify. Other treatments that you can ask your eye doctor about is punctal plugs, lipiflow, or steroid drops. I hope you find some reliefs and feel like yourself again.

The eye specialist told me that during the surgery the Dr cut the back of my mama's eyeball.He said he could fix it by putting a patch over it ( back of her eyeball)but that my mama would have to keep her head down for 3 weeks at all times so the patch would work. I told him there was no way my 70 something yr old mama could walk around with her head held down for even one week much less 3. She decided to just live with it for the rest of her life. I just had cataract eye surgery here in NYC two days ago. I'm 49 years old. They used the laser to break up the old lens, which took 2 minutes, then I had to wait about an hour for the procedure which is done by hand (the laser wouldn't calibrate in the morning, so the delay in getting it to work backed up all the surgeries). The actual surgery went by quick - I could definitely feel the surgery happening, but it wasn't painful, and it was over much quicker than my mind assumed it would take. I was given only the choice of the monofocal lens due to my PRK surgery back in 2007 which had reduced the thickness of my cornea. My girlfriend came and we took the subway home. Everything was kind of hazy but super bright. When I got home, I noticed my eye being kind of irritated and scratchy, but I kind of expected that. The haziness started clearing up the rest of the day, and the next morning all the irritation was gone and most of the haziness too. Actually, the doctor had inserted a prednizone dispenser in my tear duct (I think) that allowed me to put that drop in my eye half as often as I would have normally, but that drop does give haziness. The next day follow up I had 20/25 vision, and my monofocal lens we had selected has one meter distance, so that I could get by in normal life without readers for menus and phone use. Therefore, my distance vision isn't absolutely perfect, but that's only noticeable watching TV, and even then it's not that bad. And I still need readers for very close up reading/doing stuff. Also, totally acceptable. I feel like I've been given a new life. I had basically lost my depth perception, which is critical for my job as a boom operator in the film industry, and everything was blurry and milky in my right eye (my left eye is ok, but they did say I have a cataract in that eye too). I'll cross that bridge when I get there, but for now, I'm happy.

I had cataract surgery on my right eye years ago. The sedative they gave me caused me to fall asleep. In the middle of procedure I woke up to the surgeon yelling at me. He told me afterwards he did yell at me, my eye was moving too much, it was like he was working on a moving volcano with my rapid eye movement. He knew something was wrong as he made me comeback to his office 5x afterwards. He said he would like to do some sort of laser treatment on my eye. I had no trust or faith in him. So, I let it be and decided to live with situation. I have very little vision in that eye. When I went to renew my driver license and had to take the vision test at DMV…I failed the test. On the vision test … it has like 5 rows of letters to read … all I could see and read back was 4 rows …the 5th row was black/didn’t exist. So went to Target optical center and I have very little vision in my right eye …legally blind however my left eye has 20/20 so they wrote approval so I could continue to drive. My question, if I may ask, can another surgeon correct my failed right eye surgery (can it be done twice on same eye?) or perhaps would this cold laser procedure work for me? I’m kind of scared to do anything at this point. I do know I have cataract developing on my left eye now. What do cataract surgeons do for folks like me absolutely terrified about this surgery? I’m thinking the mild sedative given to me was improperly administered. Any help would be appreciated. Thank u for doing your video. Best regards

Sorry to hear about your experience. The last thing anyone should do is yell at their patient in the middle of surgery especially if they were sedated. You have very little control of yourself already. But yes, another surgeon could redo the surgery if the benefits outweight the risks. Either way another oppinion would be a good idea.

I just had cataract surgeries in December on both eyes, the left one was the 1st, which the doctor said I was considered legally blind, after the surgery it was like being reborn again, it was so clear and vibrant, I opted for the multi focus optical lenses, because I didn't want to wear glasses again, since I've been wearing glasses since age 5 years old, which were more expensive, but I was happy to not have to wear glasses again except maybe for reading glasses. The procedure was probably 30 minutes at the most, it was the preparation that took some time, I was out of the hospital in an hour. The right eye was the same procedure, but it wasn't as bad as the left eye. I highly recommend going to the eye doctor if you experience cloudiness so bad you can't properly see, because it's worth being able to see again. Don't put it off like I did.

The next day my vision was completely crystal clear and I could read small letters and numbers at a far distance without blurriness. I believe I can now see better than 20/20 and during my eye test I was able to see all the numbers and letters the doctor asked me to name. It took about 3 days to get superb vision. Had mine replaced. Went very well. Eyedrops can be dangerous ! Now I would advise any friends to wait until it’s a handicap because there will be disappointments in your vision ! I am 70 and regretting the surgery. But everything is brighter. I will say that men cannot make your eyes as good as God did.

@@fu2lstop I don't think the surgery will make too much of a difference in that eye, unfortunately. But the best person who can determine this is an eye doctor after they have looked at your eyes. Good luck!

My eyes were so bad I had to read with a magnifier and reading glasses together. I was resolved never to drive at night again, and driving during the day was difficult. I had cataract surgery and suddenly had perfect vision again. It's been 4 years since my surgery, and I still am comfortable driving at night. I never used reading glasses again. Cataract surgery was a miracle for me. I thought I would spend my years with declining vision. Instead I feel like a kid again. I'm a believer.

Fastest surgical procedure ever! No pain, very little "discomfort" at all, only on the second eye did I feel anything after. Get this done, it's amazing how much brighter my eyes see now. It's like turning your monitor or phone screen to a nice bright "cool" view as opposed to the softer night time or "warmer" setting. I LOVE IT!

I just had cataract surgery on my worst eye , both were bad but the left was so thick they couldn’t,don’t see my retina . Once the full anaesthetic wore off the pain was horrendous . I couldn’t bare light at all. Now a day with steroid drops and a numbing drop had helped. I was never going to get good vision after it was simply to remove the cataract. I have Sjögren’s syndrome and my specialist said every drop she dropped in dried instantly. I can say colours look a bit brighter and hopefully that will last for a long time. Pre op I had days where I could only see the outline of peoples body . I also have macular degeneration, I just wish somewhere they said post op can be painful for a few days . Thanks

You are correct. Patient education and expectation should be explained before the surgery. Yes, their eyes will be sensitive to light and painful because they have to make a couple incisions in the eye, so it feels like having an abrasion, which is not fun. So cold compresses, dark rooms, and ibuprofen can be a lifesaver!

I just had cataract surgery on May 3. In & out in 2 hours. Most of that time was prepping, (info & putting eye drops to prep for the surgery. I felt so cared for. Surgery took no more than 20 min for me. Dr told me I had the worst cataract in that eye. Gave me drops to take 3 x"s a day. It's been 12 days & no problem at all. I can see so clear that its like someone turned a light on. Follow up visit was the next morning. I passed the eye chart for that eye. (Well I missed one letter so she gave me an eye score of 25.) Colors are so much brighter. And oh so clear. Im going for the right eye this Monday morning, May 17. Im just sorry I waited so long to do this. And that's my story. Thank you Jesus. 💘

I’m 68 and have had terrible vision all my life. Now I have developed floaters and beginning of cataracts. I would love to get the surgery so that at least I can have good vision for my remaining years but my doctor will not approve it. The blurring from the cataracts is noticeable. Guess maybe I’ll get approved when I’m nearly blind?
@TrueFocusEyeCare Жыл бұрын
Technically, you can get cataract surgery whenever you want, but if it is not deemed medically necessary, then your insurance will not pay for it. If the reason your eye doctor is not approving surgery is because they are taking your well being into account, then it may be best to wait. Surgery should always be taken seriously, but if your quality of life is being affected then, that takes priority.

It is normal and healthy to be cautious about any surgery, so that is okay. Now, if our vision is affecting our quality of life and the reason is because of cataracts, this is the best-case scenario. Even though it is surgery, it takes about 4-7 minutes, and you are up and running right within a couple of days. You will be grateful when it's all done. We just need to get past the initial stage which is pre-op anxiety. You will do great!
@leftoverporkchop99723 жыл бұрын
Excellent video. I had both eyes done and the surgery was very simple and straight forward, and pain free. Vision is greatly improved, however, i am dealing with extreme light sensitivity now for about a month. It's odd, as it varies in intensity depending upon the situation, but has remained for a while. Slight improvement after about a month and i am hoping it improves some more.
@TrueFocusEyeCare3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes we notice that certain types of cataracts causes a yellowish-brown tint to the lens that acts sort of like sunglasses, so when they are removed and a clear lens replaces them, then all of the sudden we are getting full light exposure, which can take a while to adjust. Keep those sunglasses on you just in case!
@leftoverporkchop99723 жыл бұрын

I had cataract surgery ten days ago, and far from my eye being clear or colours being richer, I have a film over my eye and it’s blurry at long distance. I’m not happy at all, but my surgeon is not a nice man. I tried to tell him it was blurry but he blamed me for choosing the multi focal lens, which he tried to talk me out of.

I had my cataract surgery on the 9th of April 2024 (about 2 weeks ago. I was wide awake for it and did feel the speculum and some tiny pinpricks. As I'm not squeamish, I didn't bounce off a wall (not that I could). Of course I had a sterile drape over my face so I couldn't see things coming my way but i could ear what was being said. Prior to the surgery they placed numbing drops in my eyes, and once inside the theatre an IV in your forearm to relax you so you don't move, or get up and run, oxygen tubing, more numbing drops and a needle around the orbital area. You lie flat (no pillow for the head to lie on but you position your head in something to be comfortable. I certainly felt relaxed but I never dozed off as some people do. Is that because I'm a slim female and petite and younger than most cataract patients, I don't know? As I'm introverted and think a lot anyway, I was able to preoccupy myself easily. Time passed quickly for me. It took about 30 minutes for the procedure itself. But they spend 10 minutes making sure you're comfortable and prepared before they begin. Everything went smoothly and I was asked what I would like to eat after I was wheeled out. I hadn't eaten for 21 hours. I do 16:8 intermittent fasting because of the energy and clarity it gives me, and gosh! did I feel clearheaded and energetic after this surgery. Everything was brighter and sharper and vivid immediately. Only the left eye was done this time and that was completely blurred (think of a mirror that gets fogged up in the bathroom after a steamy shower). I go back in three weeks time to be booked in to get the right eye done (that's not bad). I wasn't a private patient; I had it done in Adelaide at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (the best hospital ever!). I was looked after and my surgeon (the whole team) were women. So good was it I didn't want to leave.
