Omg you two are delightful and really funny! I am a German in the US for 37 years and this country has changed a lot in this time. It's refreshing to hear a younger perspective. I find it fascinating how you guys switch back and forth with the languages since you both speak both well. That's rare. My husband speaks no German at all. Looking forward to the next video. As a side note, my German has gotten pretty rusty at times but German language KZbin videos have helped me a lot. Love to see more from you two.

Regarding privacy rule and regulations in the US: same here! I'm always flabbergasted when I see or hear about that topic. From people on the streets or in supermarkets to employers who just speak openly about others or the authorities showing faces of people unblurred, or even posting videos of (alleged) offenders online, giving their full names and/or addresses. I don"t even know where to start. You would never be employed or get a flat again, if you did that in Germany.

It’s funny to hear him say he’s more relaxed now because I’ve watched so many videos by Americans saying Germany is more relaxed with a slower pace of life and more relaxed because they CAN’T go shopping or anything on a Sunday. It just proves how quickly we integrate into new environments and that becomes the new normal. I would say Mike seems definitely happier in Florida.

Servus von Bayern Haley und Mike, and Happy New Year! Wow, 5 credit cards within one year? That is amazing, did the requirements change within the last few years? I lived in the states for 20 years, after living there for a few years, I had a conversation with a German friend of mine. She advised me to apply for a credit card around Christmas time, easier to get approved, and then slowly built creditworthiness up. From having no credit to having too much credit, anything can mean they do not approve you. I wonder if there are new rules now? I had a hard time when I moved back to Germany after such a long time out of the country to speak german again. Biggest issues were reading business paperwork, and understanding the meaning of it completely. I would also speak to people randomly in English or German, not even realizing which language I spoke. People then looking at me like I lost my mind. So Mike, if you stay in the states for a long time, these issues will definetely come up. :)

No idea why Mike said he felt stressed in Germany because of the closing times of shops. Munich is a big city so how long have the shops and supermarkets open? Supermarkets should be no problem at all. Opening times until 8 pm should be enough but they often have open until 9 pm or 10 pm and maybe one until midnight. Is it different from Cologne to Munich? It was nice watching this video. The sense of humor is doing a wild ride here :-)

Mike has embraced the _credit_ culture we have, in the US? Mike is balsy. I have made it a point _not_ to have a credit card for many years, now. Credit cards open the door for debt and debt is bondage. I learned that lesson _first hand._
@thiloreichelt4199
@thiloreichelt4199 Күн бұрын
While that is true, if you are living in the US, you should at least occasionally buy something via credit card (and pay it off immedeatly). If you do not have a card or never use it, you do not have a credit rating and that shuts you off from parts of US society.
@lazyperfectionist1

@@thiloreichelt4199 Well now, it's happened _several_ times, in my life, that I've had my credit checked. The first time, the party who did it said I had what was called "single line" credit, which apparently impressed her very much. That was more than 20 years go.

Hi from Berlin ! You guys are so cute and Haley's German and Mike's English is really great.Lots of fun to listen to the both of you. And by the way - in parts of Berlin you could walk around in your pyjamas in the middle of the day and no-one would even give you a glance ;-) Keep making videos ... they are so enjoyable! Regarding thinking in one language and translating in your head to another language: I have lived in the US for some years and in addition had to use English as business language for more than 20 years in Germany. Nowadays I realize that I think in the language that I am currently speaking, writing or reading -so as I am writing this I think in English. Have you made similar experiences?

What about social security, there is none in America as far as I know, do you have to put money aside to bridge unemployment? And what about your retirement provision? You say you don't have to work that hard, can you earn enough with little or relaxed work, or do you still have something in Germany and do you work for a German organization?
@hayleyandmike

@@hayleyandmike This is presented differently by the many videos about life and work, balance on this site and the sick days and bills you get when you end up in the hospital or the use of an ambulance etc. There are enough Americans who are young and leave for Europe, that's why I found it strange that you chose to do it the other way around. But if you don't have to worry about these kinds of things, then you are right, America is also beautiful.
@Jan-xh5ee
@Jan-xh5ee Күн бұрын
Where did you get that information? There is social security in the US, it's just only a small percentage of your earned income and most Americans can't live off it, which is why most contribute a percentage of their income every paycheck towards a 401k investment account (an employer benefits which most companies have). Additionally there are many other ways Americans save and put money aside so that when they retire they live comfortably. In a lot of European states, you pay a percentage towards the state's social system which is distributed once you reach a certain age, 65+. In the US it's a much more flexible system, the ball is completely in your court, the more you save, the more you invest, the more you have at retirement. While those who fail to plan, will struggle in old age
