Some people wait for the future to come to them, Marcus and his family embraced the future of construction as early adopters and their bravery has been rewarded! We get into all the details of this innovative project. Marcus and his wife volunteered over 600 hours to earn the opportunity to purchase this Habitat for Humanity, now they are living the American dream earning equity in their home as they pay off their mortgage. Marcus walks us through his beautifully furnished home and shares the amazing benefits along with some of the hurdles they've overcome in the discovery of what it's like to live in a 3D printed home.
Please respect the privacy of the homeowner, they very busy with their own lives and do not have time for tourists. Marcus and his family were kind enough to open their doors for this video, let them enjoy their home in peace.

I’ve never seen ones finished before, I always imagined they would sand the inside walls smooth. I don’t love the look of all the layers in the inside of the house but that’s just me.

bad idea to not plaster the bathroom walls, with showers etc, fungus and bacteria can get in between the gaps and not easy to clean in between a load of crevices.

The print lines are unique and kinda cool but I can see the look becoming old quickly. Can't the 3d printer designers add a tool to flatten the walls and make a smooth surface? It could be connected to the print head and trail slightly behind it to smoothen out the surface as it goes. I think the company to implement something like this may be ahead of the curve. Sharp corners may need to be substituted for curves but I think a smooth curved concrete wall would look even more impressive than a 90 degree corner anyway.

It’s surprising how many folks comment negatively about the wall surface. I think that’s one of the more charming aspects of these homes. Along with the curved corners the home has a more organic, natural feel. I love it.

I agree that it's not a big deal, and the insulation properties are far more important to me. For a more traditional look & a place to hang stuff, outlets, plumbing, etc, just add drywall. Of course, you print within the dimensions of the lot, but holy shit is that a small place.
@JaredConnell
@JaredConnell 5 ай бұрын
If it was a traditionally built house and everything was uneven like that it would be unacceptable, but since it's 3D printed and it's the new fad it's overlooked and called charming? Maybe if the layers were uniform it wouldn't be so bad but they make it look sloppy and poorly made.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🏡 Marcus has been living in a 3D printed house for a year and just had a yearly inspection. 00:49 💡 The Energy Efficiency of the 3D printed house is fantastic, which they appreciate living in Arizona. 01:17 🏗️ Some minor problems have been encountered, but nothing structural. Custom cabinets are easy to mount on the walls. 02:27 🎨 Marcus's wife did most of the decoration, including painting and cabinet choices. 03:11 🎮 Marcus's favorite room is his playroom, where everything was easy to mount. 03:26 🍽️ The kitchen features custom cabinets and color-changing LED lights, which Marcus plans to add outside the house. 04:11 📱 Smart appliances allow them to control various functions through their phones. 05:32 🌡️ The house maintains a comfortable temperature, and their Energy Efficiency is impressive. 06:01 🏞️ They've been working on landscaping the yard, starting from dirt, adding slabs, grass, and more. 09:33 ☀️ Solar panels significantly reduced their electric bill, making it more energy-efficient. 10:14 🔨 Marcus finds it easy to mount items on the walls, and he's setting up a game room with dartboards and a ping pong table. 12:20 🏠 Marcus appreciates the adventure of homeownership and the satisfaction of investing in his own home. The look of the printed walls is interesting, you can really see the flaws or start/stop points although it looks like it would be easy to plaster over if you wanted or put up siding or even brick to give it the more standard look. I was wondering if the walls have a hollow area between inner and outer walls and if so do you fill it with something like perlite as an added insulation ?

LOVE, BLESSED - The writing is on the wall - As we automate construction we are discovering how to make homelessness an ancient concept. When the problem is homelessness &/or inadequate housing, the solution is to print affordable housing. The added temperature control benefit is another home run for home ownership. "Energy efficiency, second to none!" Thank you Marcus and your family for the wonderful work you've done converting a print job into an awesome home. There are many financially wealthy people with mansions who have nowhere near the love dancing off your walls. I was grateful to Jimmy Carter's Habitat For Humanity before it entered the field of printing housing. They've become an evolution in the construction industry. Thanks Jarett for this look back into the present. We are printing our road to freedom, one precisely placed slice at a time per print head.

the primary problem with homelessness isnt building homes. Its people unwilling to stop doing the behaviors that made them homeless in the first place, like drug use, and that no matter what kind of society you create, some people will invariably fall through the cracks. What we should strive for is for everyone homeless that doesnt want to be, and has their mental health in place, to be able to climb out through skills development and available opportunity so they dont stay homeless. A ton of the people on Skid Row/ San Fran/ Portland streets dont want to be functioning members of society. They want the lowest common denominator life of free drugs/gibbs supplied to them by the state which is just enough to keep them alive until the fentanyl gets them. Its tragic.

@@dobertjowneyrunior3023 - the solution to homelessness is to provide self sufficient housing. On line businesses, especially in this age of A.I. can provide all with an income earned easily, without fear of rejection. Of course the real solution is found in people's purpose. Uplifting housing is helpful in healing. We can also reduce the stress, work load by printing environmentally conscious housing that includes free energy systems, green house room, dome shaped to reduce if not prevent wind damage, fire resistant hempcrete walls with a hemp plastic (ABS) layer to waterproof the structure up to the roof, atmospheric water generators... We can do this. Let's Print!

I would render it so that it isn't so difficult to clean. In Australia that would be mud wasp haven! Every day you'd be fending the buggers off! I understand that the ripple effects acts like cooling fins by creating more surface area to radiate heat.....but I'd just cement board that sh!t up and leave sections inside and outside as feature wall un-clad? Then inside I would dry wall clad and do features here and there otherwise your gonna get all kinds of oily marks etched into the concrete so you'll be patch painting everything all the time rather than cleaning it ....we all know that additional effort is going to get old rather quickly, but it won't raise its head for a few years so don't think about it till then, eh? The idea of cement sheet cladding could continue as a homogeneous theme all the way to the roof also? My house now uses mix of rendered brick and rendered cement sheet over timber trusses and it looks completely uniform like 1 cement building 👍 likewise the same theme can them be applied to the cement brick fence (I would add inserts of my own creation of cement lines similar to the 3D print of the house on to cement board) those created pieces like features accents on the rendered fence around the outside. I would relocate that utility box that is impeding the path to the shed and I'd be cutting a double door gate in the brick fence just so I could access that little shed with what ever can fit down that side of the house? Car possibly? Who knows? Love you concept of a fast house construction with 3D printing but could see this becoming a disaster owning here in Australia in it's unmodified state. I mentioned cement board cladding because I don't know how much cement you'd go through trying to render that whole house? But all of that would need to be considered as additional costs here in Australia or you'd find out in less than a year lol

Привет, почему печатают только стены? Технология позволяет печатать целиком, вместе с крышей. Думаю, что получится даже интересней😊

How can exposed concrete survive the freeze thaw cycle in colder regions ? Any feedback?

I'm hoping to build something in Michigan but would be concerned that this style might now work with the freeze-thaw cycle in Michigan as you said. We might also do something in Florida and I think this style would be ideal for a hurricane if the roof is well attached.

@@mistereearly1141 So Michigan home is out, but something in Florida is viable. Does that seem right?

@@alansnyder8448 Florida seems right but concrete is porous so wind driven rain could be an issue? I think if you Coated all the exterior concrete in siplast or Kemper then it would be water tight?

@@mistereearly1141 Great information. So it seems like the ideal location for this is a dry warm place which is right where the video is from.
