Congratulations on 1 year of game development! When I first found your devlogs I binged the whole thing because of how amazing your game already looks! I can’t wait to play it on release! On a side-note, here’s a couple of suggestions I thought would be cool. :P I think it would be great if there was an employee you could hire that would automatically replant a specific/random species of tree in a player-specified area. It would allow for more automation so that you can focus on other things instead of constantly worrying about running out of trees. Some other cool ideas would be for activist groups, employee benefits and unions. If you didn’t replant enough trees there could be a chance for activists to target your company, which would decrease the amount of trade offers you would get. Employee benefits could be stuff like holidays, healthcare and retirement funds. While it wouldn’t be necessary for the player to provide all of these to an employee, they would boost an employees happiness, because maybe they’d quit if they weren’t happy enough. Combining employee benefits with a union system would encourage players to run an ethical lumber company, because unions might organise worker strikes if you don’t treat your employees right, and maybe even file lawsuits against you.
@BWDev4 жыл бұрын
Cool ideas! Was considering a ‘carbon credit’ system for replanting and the activism thing would really add to that 🤔

It looks awesome my dude, very solid! A small change that’d really make a lot is making those buttons on the bottom a bit bigger and “fancier”, and maybe a small gif background instead of a black void? I’m sure gifs for things like falling leaves and the river is coming soon, but that too. This is a really promising game, and I love the aesthetic, you’ve done a wonderful job! Very impressive! ^^

Everything looks amazing, but may I suggest one visual thing? - Slight colour variation within the different types of trees. So with the pines or maple, if it's randomly generates some trees to be 15% greyer, some 10% oranger, some 5% bluer (for example). Those subtle differences would make the whole world have much more depth in my opinion. I'm not a coder though! I'm a designer :) Let me know if this is possible, love seeing the progress!

Nice job! Another proof of art skills importance. Most of the solo developers focusing on code, ignoring visual for the first time. Code is quite important, but at the moment's of mental crisis like "I'm tired!", "my game sucks!" good-looking (visually) prototype can stimulate to proceed to develop.

As much as we all hate it, the algorithm does work every now and then. Progress is almost never one way, so thanks for showing what did work and what did! Im glad to hear that Im not the only one that has experienced false starts with making games. Ive tried so many times (something like 8 or more) over the years to get going on a game, but always ended up giving up because I was spending way more time on the art than I ever cared to. A week ago, though, I've finally had a good start. I've gotten further into development with it than I have ever gotten with any other game. But now that I'm this far, I cant NOT think about it.

All 3 of us are full time programmers in a company, so no arts background, and have little time to develop our game. Our latest games is using free pictures and sounds. Woah, this is really awesome to see! Really makes the task of creating that game idea you've had forever seem achievable. If I might make a super tiny small suggestion though, the forest seems (at least to me) a little too "structured" as all of the trees are evenly spaced apart. Maybe if each tree would generate a random offset within a range of 3/5 pixels from the center of the tile in the X and Y directions, and that's where the trunk of the tree would grow out of rather than the center of the tile for each tree? I think it would make the forest look much more "wild" and lively. The game looks amazing though, and it's come so far in just a year! Wishing you luck on the road to the finished product!
