Have you considered using rivers to move logs? It was common practice at one time, and could be an interesting feature. Probably it would be limited to fresh logs only, but perhaps it is faster and/or has more capacity versus other early-game modes of transportation? Maybe two core “buildings,” a drop-off point (there’s a real name for it,) and a sawmill which can be placed downstream which collects logs and mills them into lumber (probably powered by water wheel). It might be a simple and satisfying early-game or “starter” system that also encourages some interaction with the map geography.

I'm super excited to play the game, and actually now that you have it happening on islands, I guess port mechanics and water log transportation/export would fit the game really well.

Awesome to see how much this game has progressed in a year. I was one of those that joined a year ago with the previous video haha. I still think you should use CA (cellular automata) instead of Perlin noise for the maps, but that's a minor concern. I think some visual feedback for cutting trees (similar to the game juice you have with the trees swaying when you place something) would be a nice touch. I encourage you to keep maintaining modular code, following the game itself (not too simple, not too complex, stick to just the direction you want it to go in) and don't rush or stress about it, but keep progressing : ) But of course you already know all that. Love the vids. Also: If you wanna change it up a bit, I think a "gameplay" video would be awesome and we'd love to see it. Although I understand that you might be cautious about releasing one when the game isn't finished and people can mistakenly find it later. Just make sure you title it correctly (if you so choose to make one, or several)
@BWDev3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure of any CA algorithms that would generate island shapes - plus the Perlin Noise implementation does everything I need it to. If there is a CA that could do something like that, do let me know though as I'd be interested to see it 🤔 There is also currently a shake when Lumberjacks chop trees, however I haven't shown that side of things in a devlog for a while - possibly soon! Thanks for watching 😁
