I’m 45 now but was undiagnosed as well. Barely graduated HS. Got my bachelors degree but it took exactly 10 years, full time the whole time! 😂 But now my career has gotten to the point where I can no longer manage on my own. Went to the doctor last week and I’m going to get tested tomorrow. Hopefully there’s something to help me.

Well, same. Honestly took the words out of my mouth, your describing things about me that I have never realized I even do. I get bored with video games real quick. But before I do, I grind whatever it is for a couple days then get bored. Sometimes I’ll download a game then never play it. I have this constant thing I do where I like something and in my mind I say this is going to be the thing I master and become famous. Bought a 4000$ mountain bike for 600$ then 100$ padded shorts, I’ve used them twice each. Bought it 3 years ago lmao. Spent 2k on pc setup to get good at a game and go pro. Played it for one week got bored. Bought a mountain board when I was little for 200$ got bored with it in litteraly 1 min no joke. I impulsively do everything I Guess. Which I don’t think it might be adhd then unless that’s a side effect. Also pass everything in late. Always make excuses. I procrastinate more then anyone I know and almost was last in my graduating class. C- student average. Honestly getting pretty bored. Realized no one cares lmao

Is it a symptom if you feel like you find yourself very often “negotiating “ with your body? Like: “Come on dude, you know you have to get this thing done, come one, just do 5 minutes” but your body is like: “nah”, clicks on another youtube video and I can’t do anything to stop it. This applies to me for waking up early, practice my instrument, trying not to eat junk food, doing homework, and the list goes on. It has to be something very urgent so my body accepts to cooperate with me. Tomorrow I will start my tests for ADHD with a neuropsychologist. If I find out that I have it, it would be a great relief. But if I don’t, then that also will be great because I can work on those weaknesses with some help.

Having ADHD is like having two minds within one body...one mind seems lazy and does not want to really put in effort, on the other hand, the other mind is about potential and wants to achieve. In the middle of these two minds is YOU. I think the ADHD meds work so well because it “turns off” the lazy, complacent mind allowing YOU to do what you want. The downside is though that you have to medicate for as long as you need to achieve what it is you are going after, which in my case has been almost 10 years and counting. The mind is a fascinating thing and I agree the stimulants are a huge help in my personal case. If you take stimulants in a responsible way under the docs supervision, stimulants are a godsend.

@@illvinny Wtf is the point you're trying to make? ADHD isn't just being lazy.. it's a dopamine irregulation where you can either have very high motivation or very low levels. this includes struggling with basic tasks or even interests you love. meds like adderal can really help people because it balances your dopamine. I've been on it for a week now and I've been able to just do things.. im not overthinking or cutting corners, im not procrastinating. i think about something i want to do and do it in the best way possible. its also lowered my anxiety/overthinking. ive this has never happened in my life. adhd meds arent hard uncontrolled substances like meth, its a very helpfull thing that can really change someone's life for the better for people with adhd.

Hey, you are telling my story! Everything you say is so similar to my life! I have just got the diagnosis a month ago at nearly the age of 42 and am actually trying to find the right dosis of the Methylphenidate that i have a prescription for. Maybe i try a similar drug like Aderall too, because the side effects of Methylphenidate are quite strong in my case. Thank you very much for this video! It's great to see that there are people with similar lives and hear how they get along with their ADHD.

It’s a shame it gets such a bad wrap. It’s really nowhere near as bad as what you ppl/media make out. Of course abused it’s no good; but within the proper dosage range it’s nothing but helpful really. In terms of “addiction”, worst thing that will happen to you if you stop taking it is you might feel a little more tired... that’s it. No real physical dependence like you see with opioids or benzos.

Thank you so much for making this video and mentioning all the valid things you REALLY need to implement along with the medication. I started Adderall 10mg extended-release 9 days ago. I tried to go a day in between those 9 days without it. I slept the entire day one day and most of the other one. It almost interrupts sleep if you take the extended release too late in the day or have too high of a dose. It felt like it carried over from the first day to the next, but because I have Multiple Sclerosis I have to be mindful about getting adequate rest. Not many of my providers think that I have ADHD or they can't say for sure, because I am able to hyperfocus 1 time a week with the therapist and 1 time a month with the psychiatrist. The worst part about learning you are in fact struggling with ADHD as an adult is the fact you "masked" so long it's second nature. I try to be transparent with most people, in hopes they understand why I am the way that I am. My fuse is short and if I am not heard, and have to say "no" several times, it takes me to this bad place and I fixate on it for hours. Ideally, I want to be able to eat and supplement and exercise to be able to feel Adderal, "naturally". I worried that maybe one day I won't get prescribed the Adderal anymore because now there's an over-prescribing rate of the drug, which is funny because it was VERY hard for me to obtain. Fear and dread take over me and ruin my drive for however long it takes me to process what's occurred. The book, "Peak Mind" was recommended to me by my psychiatrist and I listened to it while walking the dog, because I already know my executive function is shit. I have lesions in the pre-frontal cortex and have been studying why I could possibly feel the way I do for a long time now, and with the outside perspective of Psychiatry and Psychology, the pairing of medication and therapy is magical. Now if I can work up to my endurance rate and successfully eat better, I can't wait to learn how I will feel and if with a steady routine for 30 days, could I maintain a life I never thought I could sustain? You are very mindful, this video was a great form of validation for me. Fantastic and informative video. XO

Use the hyperfocus and the creativity and the medication to see things through. As with most ADHDers would I take the blue pill and not have no it is part of the person I am. Thanks for sharing your journey with us! I put off starting stimulant medication for a really long time because I thought it would make my severe anxiety even worse. I was SO wrong. The first time I took an Adderall, I felt calmer than I've ever felt in my life. I've been on medication for 2.5 months now. I started with Adderall but then switched to Vyvanse because the Adderall was causing me to grind my teeth in my sleep (Vyvanse doesnt contain any levo-amphetamine, so it works less on Norepinephrine--which basically just means there's usually less peripheral nervous system side effects with Vyvanse for most people) Medication has been so amazing for me. Im so much calmer now and I can get things done :)

I found out I had ADHD last year (18yrs old) and well it pissed me off because I realised that all the stuff I gone through was because of ADHD. All of those errors and spacing out and much more, it would've been great to know I had ADHD at an early age. I had problems at school with paying attention and studying but other than that I had amazing grades (A and B) which is incredibly weird to me cuz I don't remember how the heck did I do well, I was one of the smartest kids in class. So hearing people say they had bad grades and had a lot of trouble in school really makes me question that. Other than that I hate my ADHD, I have the most problems right now it sucks.

Terrible MS which cost in a hundred thousand and 4 years to cure and then I had a terrible terrible alcoholism) and now I am here. I should never regret anything but I absolutely do XD. I just found your video. I’m 44, and studying for a state exam for my career. 14 days in of studying I’ve now began to “uncover” that I have a problem. I have a problem concentrating. Keeping focused. Whether that be the phone, a noise, a chime, a thought, an email. I just get thrown off, and in my mind, make an excuse. While uncovering ADHD, I’ve also seen the forgetfulness i have. I forget my keys, forget to do tasks around the house, errands etc. Before I used to think, “maybe I’m just forgetful” and make an excuse. Now, I understand. I deal with constant shame internally and quite frankly, live in fear. “What if”. You feel shame for not “studying or working hard enough”. Not because you don’t want too. But because my mind was preventing me too. It’s just a shame that I have gone 44 years to one day wake up and have an epiphany. Tomorrow I start adderal. I wish everyone here the best of luck on their journey to feeling “good”. Feeling like our best selves. We deserve it.

Anyway alot of the comments sound like my life, I do ok I run my own one man show construction show but it's a struggle to keep things organized and . It's like a double edge sword being hyper because I had lots of energy but when I hit about 50 my energy began to fall away and now I think I'm just left with ADD. I find it supper hard to accomplish tasks and get anything done unless I absolutely have to get it done . I'ts like I have no motivation, almost like I'm depressed and don't care about much, does this sound familiar to anyone and would adderall help ?

It doesn’t help when people praise you for being able to last minute a paper a get a B or higher. That blast of I’m awesome wait no one is noticing, shit that means I was being dumb thinking I was good at something, ugh why was I so cocky?!??! Everyone saying your moody and that reinforces fears of being bipolar (idk why that’s a fear of mine). I’m on day 2 of aderall, I knew but hoped it would be the magic cure all. The warnings said if you’re feeling overly happy/ Euphoric then stop taking and to me that says “yup see you’re bipolar if you feel good” ugh. Or maybe I just don’t know what it’s like to not feel so everything now then hyper focused on new interest “hey where did the day go?” I nailed my job interview yesterday because I was comfortable being “weird” a little confident, me. Today I just want to get caught back up with school but can seem to start. It’s a different procrastination then before medication. Anyway to whoever reads this if you can relate, where in this together don’t throw in the towel just yet.

What you must not have an addictive personality or be any kind of an addict because for me adderal was a very very very bad addiction and I am speaking for me only I suffer from severe ADHD but I also like the effects Adderall can give you a high doses but that's me speaking for myself a trellis very good medication if taking responsibly and doing all the outside issues as well like therapy see a lot of people mess up and start taking Adderall and think well it's fixed now I just take adderal but they don't go to therapy and they don't do nothing else for themselves congratulations man ADHD is one of the worst things to have for a kid or an adult
@MewithADHD
@MewithADHD 6 жыл бұрын
Hey! I actually do have quite an addictive personality, but your right! If you don't see a therapist and work with them to find the right dosage, and also figure out how to manage ADHD in ways that the Adderall can't, then it probably can lead to addiction! I hope you have managed to get your ADHD under control and found something that works for you :)

A may have ADD but I'm not diagnosed plus I'm 48. Is it common to be diagnosed at an advanced age? Tbh a friend of mine gave me a couple pills today to try and it made a world of difference. The initial high I got tapered not long after I took it and tbh today was the best I felt in years. I could focus on tasks at hand and get some work done. I didn't work today, but if I did, I would of been productive because tasks given to me at work I tend to hand off to other people or just don't do them. Please respond and let me know what I should do.

Hey! Yeah it's actually very common to be diagnosed at a later age, I was diagnosed at 28. I definitely would not advise taking someone else's medication but if you feel like you have ADHD then I would say go to your doctor and let them know your symptoms, they are pretty helpful with it all :)

I'm 18 and struggled with bad ADD/ADHD my life long, Recently found out about adderall, and it was like a glimmer of hope, But my mom keeps telling me "it starts in your head" "You have to control it yourself pills for ADHD is bullshit" "Just focus" "Its just an excuse" "Your just lazy just get off your ass and do more" Any advice ? I feel adderall would help me so much but I cant have it because my mother is "caging me"
@MewithADHD
@MewithADHD 5 жыл бұрын
Hey! I'm sorry to hear about that! Your mum doesn't seem to have a grasp on what ADHD really is if she thinks that which is very unfortunate :( it's also very common too. Part of managing ADHD does come down to working at it yourself without any medication, learning coping mechanisms, talking it through with a therapist or counselor, and looking after yourself in terms of eating right and sleeping enough, but ADHD is a chemical imbalance in your brain and the medication helps to regulate that which is also important too! I think trying to educate your mom better on what ADHD is might help and talking to a doctor about it.

I've been on ADHD meds for almost 6 years now I started when I was in the 3rd grade with small doses of Adderall and eventually moved to the max of Adderall they were aloud to give and they moved me to vivance and now I'm on 55mg of vivance and I feel better but still notice some things that the meds can't always help with and some things but I also started so young that now I can't rember what I was like before my meds but just from days I have missed my meds I have seen huge difference but also loses I've noticed that at times near when I needed a dose up or forgot my meds I would be more happy and socal I would actually talk to people in my classes that I didn't know and for me a more introverted person that felt great but it came with loss of focus and if I get my meds up were I needed them I wouldn't be and social and would feel more like all I cared about was class and not fun and my own emotion. But I've also learned to deal with this and the best thing to do is get close friend that know about ur ADHD and like u on meds or off meds they understand you and except you I think over all it has helped my alot useing the meds

I'm in 7th grade, and I think I might have ADHD but when I brought it up my dad acted like I just told him I might be a murderer, so I never brought it up again. But I started noticing how.... Ableist some videos in school are. They showed us several videos of "Just try harder! You'll get it!" "Don't listen to distraction's, just TRY HARDER!" "If you fall, get right back up, and TRY HARDER!" It sucks. I'm trying. But ever since 5th grade my grades have sucked, and I can't do it anymore

Hi there. I'm 35 from Russia and I have ADHD since I remembered myself, but I have never been diagnosed with it ever since in my country ADHD is not a thing and Adderall is considered an illegal street drug. My life has been a mess though I have made some achievements despite my condition. I do not know what to do since nobody has any awareness about this condition in my country or considered it some bullshit. People all the time tell to be more focused, I forget things and even get distracted to write down notes not to forget, and sometimes people ask me if I am smoking weed, which I never would do because it makes my condition even worse. Nobody believes me I have ADHD and it's impossible to get treated or diagnosed. I'm clueless what to do

Cherry Bomb. I have gained weight on Adderall. Instead of just thinking about meals to prepare I actually make them!! It makes me more hungry in a way. Ps 15mg daily? 15mg as a single dose may be more than you need if you take it several times a day. Try not to increase. Decrease if you feel like it's not working then after a few days go back up to regular dose.
