Having ADHD is like having two minds within one body...one mind seems lazy and does not want to really put in effort, on the other hand, the other mind is about potential and wants to achieve. In the middle of these two minds is YOU. I think the ADHD meds work so well because it “turns off” the lazy, complacent mind allowing YOU to do what you want. The downside is though that you have to medicate for as long as you need to achieve what it is you are going after, which in my case has been almost 10 years and counting. The mind is a fascinating thing and I agree the stimulants are a huge help in my personal case. If you take stimulants in a responsible way under the docs supervision, stimulants are a godsend.

Is it a symptom if you feel like you find yourself very often “negotiating “ with your body? Like: “Come on dude, you know you have to get this thing done, come one, just do 5 minutes” but your body is like: “nah”, clicks on another youtube video and I can’t do anything to stop it. This applies to me for waking up early, practice my instrument, trying not to eat junk food, doing homework, and the list goes on. It has to be something very urgent so my body accepts to cooperate with me. Tomorrow I will start my tests for ADHD with a neuropsychologist. If I find out that I have it, it would be a great relief. But if I don’t, then that also will be great because I can work on those weaknesses with some help.

I just found your video. I’m 44, and studying for a state exam for my career. 14 days in of studying I’ve now began to “uncover” that I have a problem. I have a problem concentrating. Keeping focused. Whether that be the phone, a noise, a chime, a thought, an email. I just get thrown off, and in my mind, make an excuse. While uncovering ADHD, I’ve also seen the forgetfulness i have. I forget my keys, forget to do tasks around the house, errands etc. Before I used to think, “maybe I’m just forgetful” and make an excuse. Now, I understand. I deal with constant shame internally and quite frankly, live in fear. “What if”. You feel shame for not “studying or working hard enough”. Not because you don’t want too. But because my mind was preventing me too. It’s just a shame that I have gone 44 years to one day wake up and have an epiphany. Tomorrow I start adderal. I wish everyone here the best of luck on their journey to feeling “good”. Feeling like our best selves. We deserve it.

Thank you so much for making this video and mentioning all the valid things you REALLY need to implement along with the medication. I started Adderall 10mg extended-release 9 days ago. I tried to go a day in between those 9 days without it. I slept the entire day one day and most of the other one. It almost interrupts sleep if you take the extended release too late in the day or have too high of a dose. It felt like it carried over from the first day to the next, but because I have Multiple Sclerosis I have to be mindful about getting adequate rest. Not many of my providers think that I have ADHD or they can't say for sure, because I am able to hyperfocus 1 time a week with the therapist and 1 time a month with the psychiatrist. The worst part about learning you are in fact struggling with ADHD as an adult is the fact you "masked" so long it's second nature. I try to be transparent with most people, in hopes they understand why I am the way that I am. My fuse is short and if I am not heard, and have to say "no" several times, it takes me to this bad place and I fixate on it for hours. Ideally, I want to be able to eat and supplement and exercise to be able to feel Adderal, "naturally". I worried that maybe one day I won't get prescribed the Adderal anymore because now there's an over-prescribing rate of the drug, which is funny because it was VERY hard for me to obtain. Fear and dread take over me and ruin my drive for however long it takes me to process what's occurred. The book, "Peak Mind" was recommended to me by my psychiatrist and I listened to it while walking the dog, because I already know my executive function is shit. I have lesions in the pre-frontal cortex and have been studying why I could possibly feel the way I do for a long time now, and with the outside perspective of Psychiatry and Psychology, the pairing of medication and therapy is magical. Now if I can work up to my endurance rate and successfully eat better, I can't wait to learn how I will feel and if with a steady routine for 30 days, could I maintain a life I never thought I could sustain? You are very mindful, this video was a great form of validation for me. Fantastic and informative video. XO

I was diagnosed this week. I watched your video about signs you may have ADHD (along with a few from other content makers). I did this coinciding with sort of...my growing inability to float myself along...procrastinating...pushing deadlines...burning the midnight oil and keeping my place clean...I was just starting not to be able to tread water. In college, this worked for me. I had adapted my coping and masking strategies. I just thought this was like..."Finding my unique study style" like all college students are encouraged to do. But I think it was a lot more than that. Which I only realize now...after having been a stay at home mom for 8 years and trying to get back out there in the world and realizing I am not in same place...I have not been working the same social/attention span/coping muscles that I was and It's really sort of knocked me flat to find that. I've taken a few years off from sharpening the sword and man...the confrontation of what I can no longer mask...it's real. My husband has been watching Ted talks about adult women with ADHD and encouraging me to look into it. I resisted at first. I thought...no...no provider is going to believe me or take me seriously...they are just going to say that I have anxiety diagnosis and chalk it up to that. But I went. My husband went with me. And I did get a diagnosis. I should begin medication this weekend. I'm 38. I've frequently looked back at a childhood in which my school noted I had "learning disabilities" which was all that said because It was a very small, poor, rural school. I've looked back over the years and said, "I'm almost certain I had ADHD." But it's only recently struck me that it's not that I HAD ADHD...it's that I DO have ADHD. I hope so much that it will lend a positive effect and so many things about my life will click into place. I have have a therapist. In your opinion, do you think it is important to have an ADHD specific therapist? My provider mentioned there are ADHD "coaches" that I could pay for out of pocket. I just ask because I know how important the therapy component has been for you. Thanks for you thoughts and thanks for these videos. I can't tell you how helpful they've been. Truly.

I was undiagnosed until this past year. I am in my late 40's. I heard the same things in school and I never knew this is what I had. Until my son was diagnosed. So, I went to the doctor and started a conversation about it. Now, I'm on adderall and it has changed my life. I WISH ADHD had been talked about more when I was a child.

Thanks for sharing your journey with us! I put off starting stimulant medication for a really long time because I thought it would make my severe anxiety even worse. I was SO wrong. The first time I took an Adderall, I felt calmer than I've ever felt in my life. I've been on medication for 2.5 months now. I started with Adderall but then switched to Vyvanse because the Adderall was causing me to grind my teeth in my sleep (Vyvanse doesnt contain any levo-amphetamine, so it works less on Norepinephrine--which basically just means there's usually less peripheral nervous system side effects with Vyvanse for most people) Medication has been so amazing for me. Im so much calmer now and I can get things done :)
@MewithADHD6 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the support! :) Wow that's interesting about you switching to Vyvanse, sometimes i feel like my tourettes can be bad with Adderall and i wonder if that would help? I'm really glad you found something that works for you too tho thats awesome! :)
@Krysten17856 жыл бұрын
It might be worth a shot! Im not sure if Vyvanse is better than Adderall for tourettes but someone on Reddit's r/ADHD might be able to share their experience with the two. But at the end of the day, everyone reacts to the medications differently, so the only way to know is to try it.

It’s a shame it gets such a bad wrap. It’s really nowhere near as bad as what you ppl/media make out. Of course abused it’s no good; but within the proper dosage range it’s nothing but helpful really. Well, same. Honestly took the words out of my mouth, your describing things about me that I have never realized I even do. I get bored with video games real quick. But before I do, I grind whatever it is for a couple days then get bored. Sometimes I’ll download a game then never play it. I have this constant thing I do where I like something and in my mind I say this is going to be the thing I master and become famous. Bought a 4000$ mountain bike for 600$ then 100$ padded shorts, I’ve used them twice each. Bought it 3 years ago lmao. Spent 2k on pc setup to get good at a game and go pro. Played it for one week got bored. Bought a mountain board when I was little for 200$ got bored with it in litteraly 1 min no joke. I impulsively do everything I Guess. Which I don’t think it might be adhd then unless that’s a side effect. Also pass everything in late. Always make excuses. I procrastinate more then anyone I know and almost was last in my graduating class. C- student average. Honestly getting pretty bored. Realized no one cares lmao

I found out I had ADHD last year (18yrs old) and well it pissed me off because I realised that all the stuff I gone through was because of ADHD. All of those errors and spacing out and much more, it would've been great to know I had ADHD at an early age. I had problems at school with paying attention and studying but other than that I had amazing grades (A and B) which is incredibly weird to me cuz I don't remember how the heck did I do well, I was one of the smartest kids in class. So hearing people say they had bad grades and had a lot of trouble in school really makes me question that. Other than that I hate my ADHD, I have the most problems right now it sucks.

I remember when I was in my early 20's before I was diagnosed with ADD, I was honestly scared to put the time and money into a college education. I was scared because I had a really bad track record for sticking to any job for more than 6-12 months. I thought that if I spent the insane tuition cost in the US to end up only working with that degree for a year or so, I would have wasted so much money that could have been used for more stable investments. It wasn't until I realized I was just scared and decided to jump in with both feet into school, and just by happenstance going to therapy for pretty bad depression that I wound up with the diagnosis. At first it was awful. I was on immediately release and I felt like I was riding a crazy emotional rollercoaster every day. It was honestly scary how unhinged I felt. We changed to extended release and not even a month later my eyes were open and I felt like a normal functioning person for the first time in so long. I still get bored with work, but that's mostly because I usually don't like working with the same people all of the time, but that's fine as I am now a travel nurse. 3 months contracts at a time are amazing

Hey! I'm sorry to hear about that! Your mum doesn't seem to have a grasp on what ADHD really is if she thinks that which is very unfortunate :( it's also very common too. Part of managing ADHD does come down to working at it yourself without any medication, learning coping mechanisms, talking it through with a therapist or counselor, and looking after yourself in terms of eating right and sleeping enough, but ADHD is a chemical imbalance in your brain and the medication helps to regulate that which is also important too! I think trying to educate your mom better on what ADHD is might help and talking to a doctor about it.

My girlfriend brought to my attention i might have ADHD just recently, to be honest, i never truly knew what ADHD meant and always thought this is how I am as a person. I am 25 years old now. Little did i know, this guy and his traits before being medicated, is EXACTLY me. It is truly me as a person. I am constantly blown away every time i watch a video on it now because I just thought this was how I am as a person and it was normal. Im going to the doctor in a week, and truly excited to see how life changing this is.

What is this hyper focus? I have never had that. No matter how much I love what I'm doing or hate it, I have a stream of non-stop thoughts. Just about dumb stuff like what I need to do and where can i even start and stuff. I hope I get help with this, it's very difficult...
@MewithADHD6 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you will if you go and see someone :) Hyperfocus is where most of the time you can't focus but every now and again you can focus so intensely on something that nothing can break your concentration!

@@MewithADHD I wish I could experience this, I'm going to college for a computer science degree and going to school to be a real estate agent and working a "part time job" which I average over 40 hours a week at. My focus is non existent

That's a lot! Are you even getting enough sleep with all that? That's probably why it's non existent! I can barely do anything when I have no sleep

You should make sure you get sleep tho pal, it's super important with ADHD. If your taking medication for ADHD too then it may not be very effective at all if your not getting sleep

I’ve been diagnosed since 4th grade and took all the drugs Ritalin, concerta, adderall, the patch etc and I hated it. It made me loose my appetite and feel like a zombie so I stopped taking it in middle school. Struggled all the way through high school and hit a road block at college. Found it hard to keep steady employment etc. I’m now 28 and back in school working full time and I’m struggling so I just got another prescription for adderall. I’m nervous and hopeful. I know I’m more than capable I just can’t stay consistent. I feel like Dr. Calamatous from Jimmy Neutron. I’ll keep you posted how it goes with adderall

I feel as if the worst part of adhd is the impulsive behavior. I feel like sometimes I do something or say something without even thinking of repercussions. Not to mention the small tasks that I always forget like locking up the gates and the shop on the farms. I feels as if I don’t have any control of my life. I’m getting my first prescription filled next week, let’s see how it goes. I genuinely have high hopes for it thanks to your videos man. Rock on🤙🤙🤙

I’ve took like almost every major adhd pill that they give you. I guess I have anxiety naturally, so taking this made me even more anxious. I’ve done it naturally for over 20 years without anything. I think it was good for something’s, but the side effects weren’t worth it for me. I quit all of it, the focus was there sometimes. It wasn’t stable at all.
