As a fellow Los Angelino, the drunk-driving thing is incredibly real. With shit public transit and expensive surge prices for ride-share apps, we often find ourselves driving "buzzed" late at night. During my 20's I remember doing it so often, I'd have nightmares about crashing. Or that sick feeling you get when you remember drinking and then you WAKE UP in your bed miraculously. My drinking's gone down to a much more moderate level, but only because the novelty's worn off at 33. Just wanna say I'm glad you found your sobriety, and you are a treasure to the culture. Thank you for all that you've done, Avo

This is very inspiring for anyone that needs to hear it. I still drink beer, I still drink wine, I still enjoy bourbon and mixed drinks. For me it was the partying and binging that was unhealthy. I have at Max about 2 drinks per week. Often on just weekends and often skipping a weekend. I genuinely enjoy the taste of certain beers drinks etc, there is a safe and healthy way to consume it ... but don’t mistake my story for being unsupportive. I know it’s very difficult to get support to stop. ESPECIALLY from your “friends” if all they do is drink. So I really do love you giving a platform and support to people that need it.

For people struggling with opiates. I know it feels like you’ll never be able to be clean. I know it feels like you’d probably die instead of getting through the withdrawals. I just want to say that your worth the battle and you CAN return to the person you were before you started using. It Can happen as soon as you decide to make it happen. You may have to lose a lot of things, including your job, relationship, self confidence etc... but it’s temporary. Your mind is playing tricks on you. Your body is playing tricks on you. Just know that on the other side is a clean you. The real you. A blank book for you to write your new chapters of your life. Trust me. It’s worth it and your worth it. The feeling of being sober may not initially feel better than the high you used to get when you first started, but the freedom of not being controlled and enslaved by a chemical will bring back a peace in your mind you may have given up on, but it’s still there. It’s very achievable. You can do it. Ask yourself “What if”? What if I could do it? What if I can change the situation I’m in? What if I could finally help other people? Feel free to hit me up. If you need someone to talk to without any judgement. Or else I’ll see you in Kyle’s chat on Wednesday’s.

I have a similar story Avo. I had been drinking heavily since I was 20. I drank at least 3 tall cans a night and at my worst I would drink 6-8 tall cans a night. I had sleeping problems so I would justify drinking as a way to help me sleep. Everyone told me I had a problem and I would use the same excuses. I'm not hurting anyone but, myself.. I'm not out drinking in public I'm at my house.. I'm not violent.. Though towards the end I became verbally abusive.. I started to re-evaluate myself when my second son was born. I had a few tall cans like I always did and I would place the cans and the empties on the floor by my couch.. My son had just started to learn how to walk and he kicked over a half full can and spilled it.. It was the last can I had and I was pissed.. I was mad at him because I didn't finish the can and it was my last one so I felt I need to go to the store and get more now and I did.. but before that I yelled at him.. startled him and then ignored him. I was a real piece of shit.. The next day I thought back at the incident in my rational mind and I felt like complete shit.. I thought about how I could be so mad at an innocent person that I love so much.. and that's when I made the commitment to myself. I won't drink anymore. I have now been sober for 2 years thanks to my sons. The more months that went by the more I realized the excuses and justifications were ridiculous and the more ashamed I was that I wasted such a long period of my life, arguably more than 15% of it drinking and being obnoxious. I'm also 34 years old and most of the health problems I thought I had while drinking have disappeared. I also quit cold turkey without any groups or sponsorship. Just the love I have for my sons was all I needed. They saved my life.

As a recovering gambling addict, this really resonated with me. Taking that step is the best thing we can do for ourselves. It's certainly not easy but most things that require that level of effort and commitment rarely are. What I would say is the rewards are far beyond anything booze, drugs, gambling etc. could ever give us. Congrats on your 1 year brother. I've been gamble free for 3 years and 5 months. We're all here in 2019 to support each other and break the mantra of being hard or tough or like you said "the guy that drinks lots of beer". That aint shit when our brothers and sisters are out here poisoning themselves. We can't create a culture of watching, we have Ruin Your Day for that. We have to create and fortify the roots of a culture thats proud of their friend making it to 10 days sober, or 100 days, or a year. Every hurdle is part of the same race. We got this man. There's a good side and a bad side to life, without going through bad times you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the 2 and would be less humble, think of a tree or structure, the bad times have helped you to dig deep and root yourself in to who you are but that's to make your rise much stronger, without those roots or bad times you would topple over in the first storm of negativity which would be bad as well so you see it's enabled to avoid hardships, they happen to make you stronger. I've been there myself and I appreciate your honesty, I actually plan on blogging soon to put my message out to the world in hopes to we're really all not that much different. 👑

But i stopped a year ago as well, i have had a few since but i haven't been drunk nor have i done the daily drinking since. I'm a monster when i drink, like the total opposite of how i act when im in my right state of mind. Today drinking is no longer a factor in my life. I don't hang out often but when i do the homie drink and i will puff my meds. Drinking is ass ya'll. Its not cool. And its killing us. Try and stay as sober as you can my people.
