Finally, I found a loc journey that I've been searching for. Less is more and the rewards are plentiful. I appreciate you not retwisting on a monthly basis; therefore, your locks seem more thick and plentiful. Also, your approach seems non complicated and simple, exactly what I intend for myself. I've been doing my research for 2 1/2 years now. Thank you for the insight of your journey!

Aw thank you 😊 it’s my pleasure! Definitely more low to no maintenance on this end and simple for sure. I’m really glad I could be of some assistance, I literally just said in my 2 year update video that I share for those who need to see that you can have great results without following all the Loc bylaws lol. So anyway, thank you for watching! I appreciate you! Good luck on your journey! ✨

I’m so happy to see this video. I just installed my starter locs (two-strand twist) a week ago. I’ve seen very few videos that showed the true progress. (Most videos showed starter locs then, POOF budding! LOL)

@@HappenedUponHappy thanks. I'm learning my hair grows like a weed. I'm in my 3rd week and I've already had to do a retie and my hair has lil bumps in them. Not sure what that means lol

Lol girl I wish I could tell you, no expert over here! My locs still have little bumps and imperfections in them but I love it, I think it’s because of doing the two strand twist method personally, but idk. Gives them character though! That’s awesome how quickly it grows. I will say one thing I’ve heard is to not retwist too often because it could cause the Loc to be too thin and cause breakage

2:50 I don’t know if I can really put into words how hard I related to that sentence right there!!!!! I started my second set of locs 2 days ago on Halloween with two-strand twists. First set didn’t really go as planned partially due to not using the right product to establish them and retwist them. But it’s all good now cause I got the right product and can now say I’ve finally started them over after a few months of being a loose natural again. I’ve been so ready to start my locs over. And they’re looking way better this time around. So glad I was able to retire that detangling brush! 😩 And so happy & excited about finally starting my loc journey over!

😂😂🤣😂😂 Thanks girl! And I started the first set back in late-ish October 2022 and kept it until about early or mid May 2023. So had ‘em for probably about 6.5 months before cutting the ends off (since that’s what had loc’d the most, then just detangled the rest.) I appreciate that ☺️ And you’re so welcome! Thank you for the dope, inspiring, encouraging, & helpful loc content! 😁

I’ve never done comb coils before (this is my first set of locs) so I can’t really speak to that but what I can say is I am experiencing quite a bit of growth with the two strand twist method- even more so now since my last pregnancy

Would it be the same if u just use the pink and green crotch needle to just lock the roots ?
@HappenedUponHappy
@HappenedUponHappy Жыл бұрын
No, I don’t think so. That needle has a latch and hook while the other one that I’m referring to (the only one I’ve seen) is a 1, 2, or 3 prong tool strictly meant for pulling the hair into the middle of the loc to loc it. Thanks for watching!

@@HappenedUponHappy Huh... 😳 WOW!! I'm almost 8 months in with Braid Locs & I can't sleep without putting on a bonnet, I have a SERIOUS lint phobia or should I call it a pet peeve!?🤔 Also another query as a new subscriber.. Have you ever considered interlocking?? Especially when it comes to the bald spot area? I interlock when I wash my hair using Lily Of The Desert Aloe Vera Gel & I love it.. It has a great non-crunchy hold.
@HappenedUponHappy
@HappenedUponHappy Жыл бұрын
First, welcome 🤗 and thank you! Braid locs, how’s that going? Considering that for one of my sons. & lol after I retwist I’m good with putting on a bonnet & scarf for about 1-2 weeks before I give up 🤣 so many factors- they slip off, give me a headache, too tired to put them on, etc. I will say I’ve never considered the lint factor 🤔 I’m cool with it though to be honest. I’m planning on doing a Loc detox when I hit 2 years loc’d in August so hopefully it all comes out then. And as far as interlocking goes- yes, I have considered it specifically for the Loc around the bald spot. I was also thinking about crocheting it but I haven’t gone through with either only because I’m afraid the tension from the weight of the Loc around the bald spot might cause it to fall out completely 😳 still figuring it out though.

@@HappenedUponHappy I'm so relieved that I did a few years of research before fully committing to Locs & being sure about interlocking I was absolutely TERRIFIED that I would ruin my hair... It's fine, yet thick & curly which is why I chose Braid Locs because double even triple strand twists would unravel... Being that I work out at home & I go to PT twice a week, so I tend to perspire heavily! I cannot stand having a head full of hair, with a hot, salty, sweaty & itchy scalp! I couldn't imagine washing & retwisting weekly for it to unravel in no time.. I'd be highly upset! Sometimes I wash air-dry, use an old T-shirt or Microfiber towel, then spray & lightly oil my scalp cover with my cap & I'm good. I had my edges snatched to oblivion by a "professional hair technician" when she did my faux locs. 😡 They're coming back sloooowly but surely with use of my DIY Clove Oil/Fenugreek mixture along with onion oil & shampoo products from India along with diligent massaging. I gently interlock my new growth as needed, definitely NOT tight. I am VERY cautious about not damaging my hair follicles after my edges debacle. I do a four point rotation to keep the loc cylindrical. I practiced on a doll head first to get it right & when I was confident...I was like.. I got THIS!🤷🏽‍♀️
@HappenedUponHappy
@HappenedUponHappy Жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I definitely understand, I wouldn’t be down to wash & retwist that often either 😳 I’m sure it wouldn’t have lasted either if you did go that route so thank god for research! When I was a loose natural I had to wash my hair often. Currently, I can get away for quite some time without washing and be fine (but it’s also good to mention I don’t do a lot of strenuous activity either). I’m sorry to hear about your edges 😖 happy to hear they’re coming back lol I have never heard of onion oil before, that’s a new one for me. But yeah I’m going to give a full Loc update soon and I’ll show you what the hair is looking like around the bald spot now, it’s loose when in need of a retwist but a little ways down it’s loc’d (so almost just like new growth that needs a retwist) idk how to explain it completely but I’ll show you soon! To be honest, I haven’t reached a point of contention with my locs, I actually love them so the loose hair doesn’t really bother me… yet!

You can start locs with long hair many think you have to cut it, but it's not necessarily needed. I know to each is his or her own but it's definitely a misconception in the loc community.
@HappenedUponHappy
@HappenedUponHappy 10 ай бұрын
Yup! 🤗 I’m certain you can. I actually wasn’t aware the loc community feels like it’s a necessity lol I cut my hair based on preference- my hair was fuller and had more body after I cut it. When I did mini twist on my hair longer it didn’t have the body I was looking for. But definitely to each their own! Thanks for watching btw 😊
