I have had my 07 for about 10 years and had the lift kit, big exhaust, clutch, air bags, chip etc. Learnt many lessons along the way. One was that its hard to find techs that can get the wheels aligned properly. Get a quality performance chip fitted, one that does not alter the fuel rail pressure but alters the injector pulse or you will get over fueling that in turn causes all sorts of issues including shortening the life of the engine and injectors. EGR blank is a must. Looking back all I would have done being a casual 4X4 driver is a chip and rear air bags. Otherwise they are a good capable 4X4 if not thrashed.

Hey! I’ve got a 2014 Pajero, just done a lap of Australia doing the great central road, plenty highway and a few other tracks on the way! Not one problem! 15,000km trip in a month and a bit! The car has 232,000km on it already (got it new) and never missed a beat! Yeah it lifts wheels but the traction control works a treat plus the standard rear locker 😍 and sand driving is what it’s made for! Always seem to put drive the patrols and cruisers (obviously cause it’s lighter too) and is a great touring rig! Highly recommend!

I've got a 2008 R51, been driving it now for 3 years. I love it, but man... Some of the problems I've had with it are nuts. I had the same issue with the alternator pulley that you did. Had to replace the entire suspension and we did the SCV twice! The worst problem we had was it going into Limp mode, bringing up all the lights on the dash, wouldn't rev past 2500. Couldn't figure that one out for months. Turned out to be the priming bulb to the fuel line had a hairline split in it. $20 to fix that. Another issue was the turbo not kicking in and using up entire fuel tanks in a day. That was fixed by $8 for new vacuum lines. It's been a headache but man it's a great car for camping. We're lucky to have the knowhow to fix it ourselves. For anybody else, this would have cost thousands to maintain. Really happy to hear it going well on the beaches, I just did my first creek crossings since it's actually running perfect for once, even towed a 750kg camping trailer through too. Never ceases to surprise me with how capable it actually is.

@@TJANDMAC long story short I used to race class 7 desert racing here in the states so before anyone was doing titan swaps I built the the long travel set up I have using the stock parts just modified to suit my needs. The current set up on my truck right now was the first kit I made and are 4" wider per side witch is 1" wider than running a titan control arm swap. I built a 7inch wider race kit that is on a freinds 05 pathfinder if you google r51 pathfinder overland you will find pics of his truck..its running fiberglass fenders for a frontier and a roof top tent custom built rear bumper with twin swing outs..I was using bilstein 5100"s with a custom spacer originally but after the market started making parts for titan swapped xterra's I switched to a radflo front shock with 600lbs springs.. rear is armada 4x4 springs with relocated upper shock mounts and rs9000's. Almost have everything I need for a solid axle swap in the rear but I pull 10" of travel in the rear as is. 14" up front strapped to keep the cv's safe lol. I'll post up a video maybe this weekend all the stuff I've learned over the last 10 years on these trucks seems to be handy for most so I'll share it as I can..

Had a 2008 Ti 2.5diesel for just over 6 years (last of the Spanish build). I liked it as a vehicle to drive and very practical, but it cost us a lot of money in repairs. First old mechanic advised not to buy one, I should have listened to him. Current mechanic (a 4WD & diesel specialist) said the same thing, has seen far too many issues and poor design on these. Just under 2 months ago, engine cut out after making a funny noise. Returned to the mechanic and the engine was stuffed, economically beyond repair, probably crankshaft broke. It had done less than 170,000. Now gone to a Toyota. If you have one of these I hope it lasts, but it is not known for its reliability. I notice a few comments about being maintained properly. Mine was, not driven offroad, minimal and light towing. Any car can go wrong but some are more likely to.

Otherwise I tow a 3ton RV with a petrol no problem and does all my off-road tracks with almost no issue. Fully independent suspension makes it very nice when cruising down the tracks with a bad lower back😁. Automatic gearboxes are the way to go with the traction control system on these. 4low and slow, constant throttle is the key. Just let the computers work it out and it gets you through Everytime.

The Xterra was only offered as a two-row SUV and its rear suspension is live-axle with leaf springs, similar to the D40 Navara/Frontier. What I find funny about this is the Xterra has a weird roof-hump and the rear doors and cargo roofline are taller, but the Pathy is the one that got the third row.

Main problem with the gen 3/4 is that they're monocoque and you can't fit proper front recovery points without heaps of work, whereas you can buy bolt on ones for the pathy with the ladder chassis. Other than the pajero having an optional rear locker there's nothing between them. Pajero has a slightly better rear seat setup but the pathy has the better interior layout imo. Mate has a gen 3 and we've driven them back to back including offroad.

What are the wheels on Lloyds D23 ? the car looks boss ! Ive always loved the R51 pathfinders, never owned one but for what they are, sounds just like any other car really. Maintenance seems like key, and that goes to almost every build. Im sure its not much different to owning an import xD
@TJANDMAC4 жыл бұрын
haha yes definitely ! and those rims are some american import that are hard to get, he had a shipment lost and they replaced them with those and we love them

I got one second hand on 190k miles but it was motorway miles (I'm sure n UK) and it runs like a dream. Standard things like UJ's and bushes needed replacing but it's sweet. You must have got a dud or a very neglected one

Hey Mate . Greeting from California USA. I Have 2011 Nissan Xterra the X Model, AWSOME TRUCK....!!! I have 210K Miles Still Runing Great . Highly Recommend..
@jcarry52144 жыл бұрын
I like your build, it looks like fun. Definitely going to watch more of it. You boys never got the xterra down there did you? I wanted a pathy for its size but I was scared of an independent rear. I got a manual, fairly rare here, and yeah they are unpleasant. It is the grossest, hardest shifting, gritty heap of gears I've ever seen. But apparently they never quit, they just feel like the last ride every ride.
@TJANDMAC4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, no we dont have xterra here, wish we did ! maybe one day, yeah the manual pathfinder isnt great either but does the job
@willroot3884 жыл бұрын
What kind of set up do you have. Have been following you for a while and seen when you lifted it. I have an r51 2011 pathfinder and would live to do some mods to get 33’s if not 35’s. Would like it to look a little more beefy

pretty stock apart from the lift, if you saw that video just added 35s i guess :)
