Do they need to be lifted? And does it need to be a truck? Can I tune my 87' Turbo diesel Mercedes and qualify for this?

There's not a chance in the world that the bobcat meets cab unless jack-knifed. Even then... Extremely unlikely given the negative (truck weight) in pull, to positive (trailer weight) in tow. Unless this is a down hill raceway. You could slam on your bakes at 80mph...youd have a worse day with the wall than the bobcat.

Lifted trucks are at a serious disadvantage on this they get the weight pulled off the front end and they get squirrely, a lowered truck with that kind of power it'll pull it so much better

Robert Ries all the lowered trucks lost to the lifted ones. When it's lifted it gets pulled down at launch and sinks the rear tire and they don't spin like that lifted Sierra.

It would have sucked,in more ways than one. The 7.3 is definitely one of the toughest, longest lasting diesels ever made,but when it comes to making power they just cant compete! They guzzle fuel,and still get left behind in a cloud of smoke by a little 6.0 p.s.d. or a duramax. They quit making them for a reason.
@stroker-jg7ml
@stroker-jg7ml 6 жыл бұрын
@@andrewfarrell4312 they quit making them because epa government mandates said 6.7 liters was max displacement starting in 2004. So international came up with the 6.0 liter. 7.3 can make big power, but it takes deep pockets. Ive seen more than a couple 800 hp 1400 lb ft 7.3.

@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix 5 жыл бұрын
He means when the torque converter locks up. When it isnt locked you have constant slippage. Think of it like this unlocked is like slipping the clutch on a man dial trans and never letting the pedal all the way up, think of locked as when you let off the clutch completely. When the torque converter is locked the engine is locked straight into the drivetrain with no slippage. Torque converter has to be unlocked at a standstill or the engine would stall when you stop. When you take off it slips but also multiplies torque, then when it locks up theres no slipping. Notice when you push the gas in an automatic the rpms go up and under light to moderate throttle in a higher gear the rpms may hover at the same rpm but the vehicle speed continues to increase. This is because the engine is moving faster than the drivetrain, then the rpms drop a little and you feel like everything is locked together. If you drive a Ford, use manual mode, upshift just to 3rd. Once it's in 3rd you'll feel what seems like it shifting gears again, it's not, the torque converter locks, you'll know its locked because the rpms and speed are directly proportionate, you let off the gas the rpms dont drop until the speed slows down, just like if you were in a vehicle with a manual transmission. In short, once the converter is locked the engine and drivetrain are completely locked together like in a manual transmission once you've let off the clutch pedal. Hard to explain but hope this helps.

White smoke is under fueled or running "lean". When a diesel runs rich or is dumping fuel you get black smoke, it usually clears once you're on full boost. If it starts to white smoke you're not getting enough fuel for the amount of boost.

Okay confession time. I know nothing about trucks, never drove one, in my country there are maybe a hundred of them in total, I am by no means acquainted with automatic gearboxes and off-road rigs do not interest me in the slightest manner. Hell, I don't even like diesels. But I sure do look forward to yt coverage of this event each year.

WTF is the point in wearing a helmet if you don’t do the strap? Add that to the fact that Kevin Jacob didn’t bother to put a seat belt on his fat ass before the racing down the track while towing 10,000lbs and DP is lucky this year’s DPC didn’t have a tragic ending... I always enjoy the Diesel Power Challenge, but would hate to see it come to an end due to stupidity.
