It's Mother's Day weekend and that means its the busiest week on the farm. We have lots of Tulips to sell, but so far this season, customers haven't been buying as much as we have hoped with low sales numbers for both of our first 2 Saturday markets. Now with Mothers Day approaching, we are going all out by doing three Farmers Markets in four days in an attempt to make it to our goal of selling $10000 dollars in flowers for the weekend. The goal may sound a bit too ambitious, but we have invested a lot into achieving it. Last year our tulips sold as fast as we could arrange them for Mother's Day and we were hoping for a repeat performance, but now the slow sales have us wondering if the economy has changed, and people aren't interested in our bouquets anymore. We really need a strong sales performance for the biggest week of the year for us, to prove that our farm is still on the right track and a viable business.

Ian and Serina of YOU CANT EAT THE GRASS feel that every small change can make a big difference to the world we live in. Every garden planted leads to a better future. We hope to inspire and motivate others to make positive changes in their lives by sharing our journey towards greater sustainability as we build our family farm. It's hard work to build a life worth living, and completely worth it!

I'm a nursery guy, and I don't know much about cut flowers, but GOOD GRIEF!! Serena, your flowers look great, your prices seem reasonable, and if you guys keep doing what you're doing, you're going to sell EVERYTHING you can produce! So, so good. Enjoyed the video. I wonder if pre-sales for the $50 bouquets would be a good idea for moving flowers next Mother's Day or other holidays, rather than attending the smaller markets. You can stay home to facilitate pick up or have people pick up at one of the markets.

I am a retired florist of 40 years and I am so happy for you both as you worked hard to sell your beautiful flowers for Mother's Day!!! You make all of us proud!!! I can appreciate your concerns as they relate to the finances. I always worried around the holidays but especially Mother'a Day. It is an empty feeling to know that you have 40-45thousand dollars in flowers and you cannot predict that you will sell all of them. It was always a great relief when the last deliver driver made it back to the shop and you made that last sale for the day. The only things to do were to get up early on Mother's Day and deliver all the flowers to all the churches!!! Thank you both for all that you do. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Luv the new white tent for the Market! Yes! Makes the flowers pop! Green would look good too! Oddly enough, I think your dried flowers would pop more if wrapped in black paper. My eyes kinda wonder all over the place with both wrapped in the same color paper. Its all beautiful, but maybe black paper would make for a pop and contrast from the fresh. Or maybe make the fresh flowers your most prominent in the tent by setting the dried on the sides of the table, and sitting lower than the fresh flowers? Hope this is received as helpful constructive feedback.

It seems such a shame that flowers that have opened in the heat of the market are not “sellable”. I’d totally purchase a “2day bouquet” for $10 or $15. I buy a Starbucks drink for $7 (US) and it’s gone in a couple minutes. $30, $50, sure I’d expect that to last about a week. Perhaps disassembling those bouquest and interspersing one full bloom in your other arrangements would help to salvage some investment. I love to see what the actual blooms look like rather than a total surprise with closed tulips. There is my two cents. Love your bouquets- love the purple green orange combo (not a fan of all orange all the time but I know it thrills your heart)
