HillClimb Monsters

5 жыл бұрын

After checking the surprise from many after seeing the 450Hp/10.000Rpm Lotus Elise that finally beat Karl Schagerl and his Golf TFSi-R this year, nothing better than showing from the inside how how fast Dan Michl´s monster is and how it was the quickest Touring Car at Ilirska Bistrica 2019.
This is not a new Monster in European HillClimb Racing by any means, being the product of over 10 years of development and racing by Michl Motorsport. Using the Elise/Speedster chassis at its core, it is from that point on, a highly modified beast, with the most notable feature being the unique engine used. A 2.8L Hartley V8 unit in Naturally Aspirated form, capable of 450Hp/10.000Rpm. For those unaware, this V8 is built using as base 2 Hayabusa Engine units and "fusing" them into a single engine. Of course it is way more complicated than that but in rough terms that is how this Dry-Sumped engine is built. And here it finds the perfect counterpart, in this mid-engined, 750Kg, carbon fibre bodied Monster that on 2019 is still as competitive as ever.

The Cosworth DFV was one hell of an engine, and in cars like the lotus 89 (I think it's that one) it was incredibly effective. Although it was an amazing sound, I don't think it quite matches the near-20,000rpm V10 engines of the early 2000s; their high pitched sound is unmatched, in my ears at least

I've seen a video from Šternberk and a guy was asking the driver, what that car is. He didn't really know. It raced as Lotus Evora, Lotus Elise or was simply just called Lotus Michl or Opel Michl. Last time I've seen this car on my own eyes, they announced it as Opel Speedster. But to be honest it was probably caused by the fact that he had an Opel before. But mostly it is called Lotus Elise. And it is one of the best cars I've ever seen.
@HillClimbMonsters
@HillClimbMonsters 5 жыл бұрын
The car is entered on the events nowadays as a Lotus Elise, which makes sense given that both Elise, Speedster, Exige and Evora use the Elise chassis as original base. But yeah, a bit of a point of contention... In any case, a ture Monster, and for that there´s no way around it ;)

That is quite the sifter setup. I like the redundancy with keeping traditional sequential lever in case the paddle shift ever starts acting up. Though I'd imagine that's fairly reliably made.
