VN24 - 10.03.2022 - Anröchte / Germany - (Part2) After a serious traffic accident on the A44 freeway near Anröchte, the difficult recovery work of the causer can be seen in this film. According to police, the tractor-trailer loaded with copper wire had hit an end of a traffic jam without braking and had pushed three other trucks together. The speedometer reading stopped at 87km/h (54mph) after the collision, according to a witness. The truck bed contained 32 spools of bare copper wire, each 40,000 meters long and a gross weight of 460kg per spool, as well as several spools of bare 185mm² copper conductor wire, each of about 1.64 tons. Due to the force of the impact, all the spools came loose from their fastenings and partially left the cargo bed through the side wall of the trailer. Some coils were forced through the trailer's bulkhead and into the driver's cab. The driver sustained serious injuries in the accident and was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter. The salvage and cleanup operations continued into the afternoon. For this time, the A44 westbound towards Dortmund was fully closed.
