Thank you very much Frijoli. I hate paying people to do a lesser job than I feel I can do myself. I did this project in my spare time so I did not have a set completion date deadline. I just took my time and made it the way I wanted it. Thanks for watching.

Thank you David. Today I had my home inspected for homeowners insurance. I got dropped because my home is twenty years old. When the inspector opened my sub panel, he asked what company installed it and I was proud to say I did it myself. He gave me a high-five and said nice job. Thanks for watching.

That is the best looking panel I have ever seen. I'm very detail oriented, but now I'm ashamed looking at my panel. Please tell me the inspector praised your work!
@StevesStrayStuff5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Doug. Actually, the inspector was trying to tell me that way I wired my multiwire branch circuits to my 125V/250V Combination Receptacles was incorrect. I had to break out the NEC 2017 Handbook and show him Exhibit 210.2 to convince him that I was indeed correct. Thanks for watching.

i am building a metal work shop. 30x50ft. i want to run a large conduit pipe from the breaker box and have it run the length of the shop. then have t fittings drop down to outlet boxes. do they have t fittings that would connect to a 2in conduit that would go into 1/2 in conduit running down to the outlets? I am thinking of running 5 outlets with 12/2 to gfci sockets. just a long 2 in conduit branching down to the sockets
@StevesStrayStuff Жыл бұрын
I don't know if they make reducer T fittings, but that is something you could do yourself. You could put in junction boxes and then run 1/2" conduits to your outlets. Hope you get everything working the way you want it.

Is it possible to can you run a romex 10/3 wire with 2 20 amp breakers to a 100amp service panel? Thank you
@StevesStrayStuff2 жыл бұрын
Hi Junior. Your question brings up a lot of questions before it can be answered. What do you plan to do with the 10/3 romex? Are you looking to add a new branch circuit to an existing 100 amp service panel or are you trying to power up a new 100 amp sub panel?
@juniormedina92822 жыл бұрын
Hey Steve thanks for your response first of all love your videos. So yes I’m trying to add branch circuit to my kitchen to power up fridge and blender and some outlets. Thank u
@StevesStrayStuff2 жыл бұрын
@@juniormedina9282 You can can run a 10/3 with a ground for what you want to do, but there are a lot of things to be aware of to make sure you comply with the current code. Take a look at NEC Article 210.4(B), it requires the simultaneous disconnection of all ungrounded conductors to multiwire branch circuits supplying more than one device or equipment. I also believe it is a code violation to daisy-chain the neutrals from outlet to outlet, each neutral needs its own pigtail to the outlet. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching.

For installing the 4 gauge stranded wire, do you screw down the lugs tight and then go back to tug on the wire and then re-tighten? I've seen that method practiced but I've also seen it where you only tighten the lugs once and leave it. Does it matter at all?
@StevesStrayStuff2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. After I initially installed and torqued the stranded wires, I did go back the next day and retorqued them. The torque wrench didn't move much, but it did move a hair. My take is this, the initial torque changes the shape of the wire which does take force. Once the wire has had a chance to relax in its new shape, the retorque makes sure everything is seated properly and the torque is stable. I do the same for terminal lugs because there is no guarantee that they were truly flat during the first torque. Good luck with your electrical project.

I saw your video for the sub panel and the 3-3-3-5 wiring, you passed your inspection but the panel itself was still empty. Did you get a separate permit and inspection for the installation of the 12/2 and 10/3 wires?
@StevesStrayStuff3 жыл бұрын
Hi Omega. To get the sub panel installation inspected and signed off, I was not allowed to perform any other work involving the sub panel until the sub panel inspection was complete, that is why the panel is empty in that video. I did pull a second permit but check with your local building department because you may get a discounted rate if you file for more than one electrical permit within a certain time frame. Good luck with your electrical endeavor and thanks for watching!

Hey Steve: First of all, GREAT looking panel. Left slack for moving breakers, but still tidy as can be! Got a question that I THINK is obvious, but want to make sure: You’re using 9 CAFI breakers with neutral pigtails, correct? (You just nicely smoothed & straightened the pigtails into the neutral bus bar?) Saw the 9 CAFI breakers, and I THINK I heard you say that NEC says the white neutrals from the 10/3’s & the 12/2’s go straight into the CAFI breakers. But I saw 9 neutral white wires going into the neutral bus bar too. In my head, I was thinking the sub panel was a plug on neutral & you didn’t have pigtails - but then I looked closer and...?
@StevesStrayStuff3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leon. My sub panel does not have a plug-on neutral, so you are correct, I did uncoil/straighten out all of the circuit breaker neutral pigtails and connected them to the panel's neutral bus, so the nine white wires you seen in the neutral bus are the circuit breaker's pigtails. The 10/3 and 12/2 neutral wires of the branch circuits connect directly to the respective circuit breaker. If you freeze frame the video from 4:47 to 5:15 you can see them. The plastic tie I put around each red/black/white wire group is to make sure I keep the white wire with the correct group of hots. It was too difficult to label the neutrals once they were connected to the circuit breakers. Thanks for appreciating the panel's cosmetics! I am proud of the way it looks.

Steve, Beautiful! Please do not put any more conductors within that bundle. Too many like that and heavy circuit usage will build up heat. You currently have 18 current carrying conductors in the bundle. NEC starts dictating separation at 21 but, that is mostly an opinion call. Respectfully, Kevin
