I have a shop/addition that I want to have a 2 gang 30A outlet to run power tools and my dust collector. I also want to place and inlet for my Gen parallel kit (110v) to feed my backup circuits. Two Qs: 1) can I wire the 30A inlet plug into the two gang outlet and then into the house panel or do I need to run two wires, 1 into the house to the Gen in 30A breaker, and then another line out (from the same breaker or another separate deducated breaker?) to the shop outlet with 30a capable 110v outlets? I assume 10/2 is code for 30A for either application. Q2) from this 2 gang outlet box, I want to run two other 2 gang outlet boxes to give me flexibility of outlet locations should I need to run my saw a distance away from the dust collector (shop vac). Thirdly (I know I said only 2 Qs)... is it smart to tap a circuit of lights from one of these secondary 30a outlets, or should I run a separate dedicated 20A for my 110 lighting since I would need to use 10/2 for anything coming off the 30A circuit, but only 12/2 or 14/2 (?) from a 20A second circuit. Trying to minimize my costly wiring needs. Current-ly (see what I did there) I have two GFI circuits coming off existing 14/2(?) Outdoor (grey) wiring that used to power landscape lighting on a 15a breaker, but I can't use an amp hungry circ saw with anything else (oil heater, another saw, the shop vac) on this circuit. I need more power! Thanks... I know you're busy and appreciate your thoughts, especially about the Gen inlet => 4 outlet => 30a breaker wiring as upcoming weather has me in need of potential back up.

What about a dryer connection thats 10-3 no ground. Would it not run said display or blower motor? Mines wired 8-3 no ground no issues though. I did debate for a long time whether the neutral wire should hook to the neutral or ground connection of the dryer.

I am going to pull power from an outlet down the wall and put an outlet behind my tv, would it be okay to use 10/2 to go from the existing outlet up to the new outlet I will be installing as that’s just what I have laying around?

I ran 38’ of 10/3 for a 6500W generator to my breaker panel. I’ve read that max is 30’ and then I should go to 8/3. Any opinion you can share?

Defiantly work with your electrical inspector. but its likely going to be 27 x 1.25 and then size your wire.

im wanting to wire up a 30 amp plug for my RV, i was thinking of using romex 10/2. but our local electrician suggested 10 gauge wire, not romex. im confused, does " 10 gauge" have separate wires like 10/2?
@electricianhub863 жыл бұрын
Romex cannot be run outside even if it's in conduit was probably the reason for his suggestion, I would give him a shout back and see if he will work with you and also make sure you work with your local electrical inspector! Thanks*

Why are some 10 gauge wires not rated for 30 amps? I would think they all should be rated for 30 amps and 3,600 watts.
