We’ve affectionately nicknamed Richard the ‘rotary knowledge robot’. His answers are short, sharp and accurate ;) He’s much more comfortable in front of a laptop tuning than he is in front of the camera and we really appreciated his time and knowledge. Cheers Richard! - Taz.

I don't understand why people are slating the guy for being quiet and to the point it's preferable to someone rambling unnecessarily. The interviewer did a good job and the guy obviously knows his shit but seems humble about it.

The legendary 767B and 787B engines were peripheral ported 4 rotor NA with ceramic apex seals and ceramic metallic coatings on the inside surfaces of the housings too. They also used telescopic intake runners to move the torque band up and down the rev range depending on how high or low the revs were. I guess the lack of forced induction helped with temperatures and a ceramic apex seal doesn't bend like a banana when it gets hot, scoring the housings like a metal one does. Nothing puts the max torque at the redline like a rotary. I think they're the best race engine design ever, personally. Still don't have the stomach to own one myself tho. LOL

Richard did fine ;) If you've watched any of the other WTAC videos you'll notice that people are more relaxed the 2nd and 3rd time around which I'm sure will be the case here too if we catch him on film again in the future - Taz.

Cool video, this is one of the first applications of The Nitrous Wizards Revo system I have heard about in a video. You can inject WAY more nitrous as engine speed increases. Your only limit(s) is how much fuel you got, quality of fuel and engine internal strength.

Does the ecu purge the nitrous, is it calibrated to compensate for the delay between gas and liquid, or are they just injecting vaporized nitrous all the time?
@hpa1017 жыл бұрын
Purging the system is only a consideration during the initial spray of nitrous. This is why it's common in a drag application so the nitrous provides maximum affect right from the launch. In a circuit application this is less of a concern since the nitrous system will be purged during the out lap.
@angelizaguirre46417 жыл бұрын
Why does he look so angry LOL Awesome video as always. I wonder what rotors they're using to make such high power naturally aspirated or if they achieved the power through lightening things in the rotating assembly. Did you guys get any details as to how it was achieved?
@hpa1017 жыл бұрын
He's definitely not angry haha Like most of us he's just much more comfortable in front of a laptop than having to answer a lot of questions in front of a camera ;) I don't have any of those details on hand but I'll see what I can find out - Taz.

@_entrxpy7 жыл бұрын

@hpa1017 жыл бұрын
We couldn't tell you exactly what rotors are used and that's probably something Richard would like to keep to himself. The main reason the engine is making 670 hp however is the spray of nitrous. Without that the power level is probably in line with what you'd expect from a well developed and well tuned 20B PP engine.

How hard on the housings are the ceramic apex seals?

Harder than carbons, not as hard as steel. They're much lighter than steel seals which helps with sealing at high rpm and reduces chattering

Incorrect, naturally aspirated rotaries are very reliable. Once you add a bunch of boost, thats when they become unreliable because a rotary is not designed to hold a lot of boost.

He's very good at interviewing its just the economy of speech is just a lacking a bit too unforgivingly - I suppose if you knew him or were used to this you'd think nothing of it. Its a labour to listen to for me. Spit it out and get on with it son! One doesnt necessarily need to sacrifice clarity for speed. Maybe he lives way out in the country and is on some meds and I should suck it up and refrain from making such "accurate" observations to fall on deaf ears?

only 500hp without NOS ! why need lie to people?
@hpa1017 жыл бұрын
How do you know that it is 500hp without NOS....? It's because we clearly state both figures in the video :) You don't get NA and FI figures for every engine (as in what the engine is producing without boost) so I don't know why you would consider it misleading either way as the engine can handle and does produce 670 HP via nitrous - Taz.
