We are SO lucky to have such great options here for delicious, affordable foods! If you had tried this challenge in the US or UK, the vlog would be over in a minute, and you would have headed home still quite hungry, after running out of money! Glad the skyrocketing food costs in the West haven’t yet affected Thailand! Great vlog!

Yes. Burger meals here close to $10 now.
@stevenmillar202 жыл бұрын
@@robertburnett6348 yes, I have noticed some of the more modern restaurants here that brand themselves as “bistros” or some of the places catering to expats, and often owned by expats, have prices in that range. But, at least here we have the option to go with cheaper choices. You can still get a decent burger here for often under 100 baht. The West doesn’t have that option. And from the looks of the prices of things back home in US, you couldn’t even buy and make your own burger at home for under 100 baht!

Nice vlog once again Wayne.. good to see that you mixed it up as well, having coffee in a proper cafe and one on the road side as well as eating a variety of different foods. One can replace the 2 coffee with 2 cans of beer a day and the budget would not differ too much as well. Also fruits are RIDICULOUSLY cheap in Thailand. A full watermelon that size would cost me about 120 baht and the pineapple about 100 baht.

You could cut costs even more by eating ramen, around 50 cents a day, then stir fry it with market vegetables, some limes, garlic, etc. Get discount meats and sprinkle it in. You could also do it even cheaper with rice or some other grain. Get two of the big liter bottles from Big C or 7/11 and find one of the many water dispensers. A liter is 1 baht. If done correctly you could actually go under $1 a day.

@@WalkAboutWayne Good morning from Chiang Mai! I would definitely agree with you that quibbling over these (comparatively) tiny amounts as a Westerner generally isn't worth it. I'm just talking what's possible. For some people it can make a big difference. When I first left America I was very ill and drowning in bills. It would've been impossible to treat my illness there. For a pittance in America I went to Thailand, carefully managed my finances and got many months of peace and rest that restored my health. In that scenario every penny counts

Chiang Mai... one of my favourite cities. I'm from Canada and I spent four months there and in the surrounding mountains north west of Chiang Dao. Took the red Songthaews up Doi Suthep to go to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.... three times. I like Wat Chedi Luang also, and many other temples. .I see you were at Wat Chai Mongkhon.....Nice temple. I made an offering to a monk there in the temple and did the water pouring ceremony and he put a "Sai Sin" cord around my wrist. They have the river tour boats there.... they will take you to the Thai Farmers place where Sylvester Stallone filmed part of one of his Rambo movies... with the snake pit. I love Chiang Mai and Bangkok in Thailand... and Siem Reap in Cambodia..... Love it. Yes... you can live very cheaply there in Thailand and Cambodia and other places in that part of the world. But there are a few places I would avoid also. Like Singapore. Thank you for the video. (If they"re stil in business after the Covid lockdowns and shutdowns..... Garden Restaurant on Loi Kroh has the best Khao Soi "Chiang Mai Noodles" that I could find. And they have it all day long. But others may disagree about who makes the best Khao Soi. . It's really a personal taste thing.) Your plate looked the size of western plates..... too much food. I hope they aren't starting to hand out huge western portions.... Try Durian milkshake or Durian ice cream.... delicious.

It gets harder and harder to live back in the west, it's the same in the UK buddy. Get yourself over hear and live the good life. Thanks.
@craigross3412 жыл бұрын
Fundamentally the raw materials are as cheap (or cheaper!) in Lidl and Aldi in the UK. So the big saving is anything involving a load of labour. Apartments are cheap because they're built by SE Asian workers (often Burmese) on 300 baht a day. A bag of little chilli chicken livers involves the same 20p of basic ingredients as the UK, but it would take £2 worth of western labour to prepare it, rather than 20p of Thai labour. For folk that can't be arsed cooking, or have a load of work to be getting on with, Thailand is heaven. The bloke banging away on a computer can spend £2 and have a guy arrive at the door with a bag freshly prepared food.

Fair play Wayne if you box smart like in this video you can eat cheap as chips in 🇹🇭 and you just proved it 40 baht for that vegan dish and it was a big serving is unbelievable. Living this way eating street food is the only way to do it. Great video by the way 😊

Thanks ! The vegan meal was massive, i was stuffed by the end of the day. That's right mate, if you smart, you can eat good and healthy. Thanks.

Nice one, Wayne. You put in a lot of effort on this one! It almost seems like prices have decreased there in CM. So cheap. 40 bt for those big, delicious meals....unbelievable. I come back here to the USA, and they want $3 for a frickin candy bar, now...10 bt there. Inflation is out of control here, now...no wonder because of the clown we have as President, now. Anyway, I'll be back there, soon! Cheers!

Wayne...Can I share some history? You like combat sports, so. In 217 bc Hannibal battled the Roman army in Cannae, Italy. Hannibal was out numbered by 30,000 soldiers. But he pulled Rome into a trap and surrounded them. Thus squeezing the Roman troops tighter and tighter. I read that the Roman soldiers couldn't even move their arms. So 50,000 dead in one day of hand to hand combat. Not rare in those days. Rome lost 3 top generals, and 30 senators. Yes, Roman Senators, very rich men, faught during the republic. 25 percent volunteered or sent their sons or relatives during a war. And the generals led in front. Sometimes escaping hopeless situations. Can you imagine our politicians doing this today? They won't start a war less than 10,000 miles away. And one son in the military today, I think. And our generals lead battles in the video war rooms. But maybe a good thing. Frightening to think of today's D.C.ers in my squad. Anyway, in my past life I was a Centurion with Julius Caesar in Spain. Around 50 bc. 9th legion, 5th cohort. My name was Pubis Erectus. ( Boy, do I need to get to Thailand). Thanks.

@@WalkAboutWayne Wayne ... Thanks for letting me share. Not many here who care. Anyway, the Roman soldier did know "dirty" hand to hand....head butting, tripping, gouging,etc. But it was mainly sword to throat. And perhaps after a forced march and hours of fighting to the death. There are amazing recreations of some of the ancient battles on Utube. So when we meet you can hear hours of my blabbing. ha. So keep training. I do want to see you in a match. Thanks.

@@WalkAboutWayne Thanks so much. Hope you don't mind when I share things like this. Most people here are uninterested. Utube has some amazing recreations of ancient battles and the tactics. yeah, but if you cook your own food, I was only paying $10-20 a week on food in the U.S. in Texas. HEB! anyway, i know cost of rent is insane anywhere in the U.S., and you have to rely on cars to do anything in most places since everything is so spaced out. but still, $10 a day on food alone is a lot, unless you are comparing to the most expensive cities in the world xD
