Hey mate great tips. Unfortunately the side chain filter on glue and compressor is only using the filter as an input key. It’s not applying the ducking to only that frequency, rather, it is only searching for that frequency to trigger from the source. I hope I made sense?

Yes its only for detection.

very true in the video's example the bandpass @ 46hz is The Source of the side chain , and not the only band that will be attenuated. to attenuate just a band a dynamic Eq set at the muddy freq or a multiband comp.. or remove the muddyness at mixing stage ... so there's less mud to remove after the mixing.

Man, I absolutely love Ableton. The Envelope follower tip is exactly why I love it. Something I started doing lately is using VST3 to be able to save third party instruments presets and organize them in the collections.Everything that saves time and avoids menu diving is a must! Thank you Will!

Yes!!! I'll have to take a leaf out of your book and start doing the same too. It's muscle memory and hardheadedness half the time isn't it? You just forget there's so many helpful tools at your disposal!
@kevinlynott79632 жыл бұрын
You can do it with VST2 as well. Just need to group the plugin and then pull it into your user library and name it. There's a great video on ELPHNT's channel about organizing that kind of stuff.

Just a quick note, the bridge app from splice syncs to the bpm of your project and also allows you to change pitch, double time or half time of the sample just by auditioning it. 😆. GREAT TIPS NONETHELESS!!!!! Thanks for all your helpful content!

the trackspacer trick is really cool Here is a handy shortcut that I learned just yesterday on Stranjah's channel. Selecting a bunch of midi clips from the sidebar and dragging them over into the session view will always spread them out across several tracks, 1 track per clip. Which most of the time I find is pretty annoying. But If I hold ctrl before letting go they're added only to the targeted track neatly placed below one another.

You can easily randomize velocity by going in the velocity tab pressing the ctrl key while moving velocity. It will assign a random range to velocity.

Disnt know the pianoroll midi trick.. thats neat 🙂 i love using arrow keys etc for stuff like that. I also allways use the up and down arrows to adjust volume and also to push things back or forward. Here’s a little no-brainer tip on how to make a soft clipper with Auto levelmatch in Live: Load Glue comp (enable Soft) + utility -> group them -> map the Glue Gain and Utility Gain to Macro 1. Make sure that utility gain goes counter clockwise (0 to -inf) Now you have a Soft clipper with automatic levelmatch so you can make a wise decision to if it actually sounds better and not just louder 🙂

I don't need Trackspacer anymore ! Thanks. I'm in a quest to use the least amount of 3rd party plugins... The reason : tired of opening a project I created a long times ago, and not being able to play it because of too many incompatible 3rd party plugins...

@Will Hatton only downside of customizing content in "Ableton Show Package Contents"-folder is, that you've to repeat that each time you update Ableton. Here is my hint. Check out "Sync Folders Pro" which can incremetally add files from one folder to another (can work in both direction but in this case only one direction is needed (I use this for my "VirtualFolders.cfg". You can instruct SyncFolders Pro to overwrite the Ableton folder stuff each hour. So when you update Ableton some day, SFP will place all your files there again... and your metronome sound stays as you like ;-)

For the Envelope Follower tip I think you're missing a step with the explanation that you're giving, I've watched it over multiple times and I still don't understand how you routed the kick frequency to the 808 so it ducks.
@WillHatton3 жыл бұрын
For my example: Apply Envelope Follower & EQ8 to Kick > find fundamental with EQ8 and move that EQ8 to the bass. With the envelope follower (which is still on your kick) set the first percentage to 50% and the second percentage to 0% then hit map, click on your bass track and select the Gain of the node you have for your fundamental frequency of your bass line (for my example I only have one node selected for ease of the viewer, so node 2) This should be all you need, which is what is seen in the video!
