If a funny man like Jack Black turned down the main role for "Son of the Mask" then you know the movie was shit. Then again, a "The Mask" sequel without Jim Carey was doomed to begin with.

I won't argue about being doomed without Jim Carey. But I remember thinking if it had Jamie Kennedy in it the movie was a pile of shit. Sherilyn Fenn got a raw deal. She was a fine actress before and after Boxing Helena. Five years earlier she had starred in the 1988, Two Moon Junction film. Despite the poor box office receipts of $1.5 mil and a 1-star Rotten Tomatoes score, I think it should be considered a noir classic. Its production values were very David Lynch-like and highly sophisticated for such a sexy film. Plus, Sherilyn was stunningly flawless in dozens of close-ups. It also sported a spectacular cast of characters: Burl Ives, Louise Fletcher, Kristy McNichol, a barely-teen Milla Jovovich, Richard Tyson, Martin Hewitt, and Herve Villechaize. There's not much of a story to speak of but it had some very sexy scenes, is a bit moody at times, and takes the viewer on a raunchy rollercoaster of a ride. It's a rich girl who meets a hunky carny roustabout and has a fling after recently getting married. There is some violence, suspense, a few shocking moments, and others that may make you blush, but it has a big heart. Like it or hate it, you likely won't forget it. 4 out of 5 stars.

@@heartblade8925 I disagree it need more then a trilogy. The story was there, it was simple. Just think, we had two clone wars series that barely added anything to the main story but instead went off and did other things. 3 movies was ample enough to tell the story but Lucas just could not manage to do it well. There are excellent parts in the Prequels (id say almost all of RotS) but yeah, lot of bad too.
@heartblade89253 жыл бұрын
@@tobyoneil1969 Maybe you are right but I do think there was character development that I felt was left on the cutting room table due to time. Obi Wan and Anakin's deepening relationship. Anakin's relationship and possible disillusion with the Jedi order. Maybe even some of Obi Wan feeling that he isnt a good enough master. Prequels were trying to cover a very ambitious story (the fall of an established democratic government and fall of a good man) and the dialogue didnt help. Completely agree that they are godly compared to the sequels though. A waste of time that also undermines the original that came before it.

Boxing Helena was an incredible story. Absolutely incredible.... and completely ruined by that stupid ending! Also, having seen the film, making the female lead into a more sympathetic character would have ruined the film even worse than that lazy ending did. Incredible story. Impressive acting by Finn. But the lawsuit controversy and the ending clearly soured critics regarding the film. Two things that Finn had no control over. Plus, her acting performance was unfairly compared to the performance everyone expected from the actress who initially agreed to be in the film. Which quite frankly was just ridiculous. The film is worth a look, especially to learn what the title actually means. Just be prepared for a lazy, garbage ending.

One of the major issues with the Star Wars prequel Trilogy isn't that the actors were bad, or the scripts were "that" bad, but the direction in all three films was terrible in places. I don't know if it was George Lucas needing people around him that would steer him in the right direction when he went off on a tangent, like he had with A New Hope, but the Prequel Trilogy had so much filler in some places and not enough content in others that the pacing was off and some of the direction decisions were bizarre.
@ShadowSora84913 жыл бұрын
I still chalk it up to George Lucas surrounding himself with people who just blindly agree with every decision he makes, rather than challenging him to take things in a different direction.

DodoBirdie unpopular opinion but the main reason why the prequels weren’t the best was due to the fact they got hamstringed by the original trilogy. They had to have everything end up the way episode 4 starts and that severely hurt the prequels. Plus Jar Jar Binks didn’t help matters. Also even more unpopular opinion the original wasn’t that great. Sure it was good but they had tons of issues to them. Screen Rant and HISHE did a good job pointing them out

Bad writing (especially dialogue, especially the scenes with Ani and Padme, Who tf talks like that lol?), wooden acting from those 2 as well, tho perhaps Lucas is to blame as director for some of this (did he go with the worst takes? lol), kids movies about politics and forbidden romance sounds like a great idea as long as we throw in a few fight scenes (sarcasm), Jar Jar is annoying af but I tolerate it cuz it actually does fit with the whole "kids movie" thing (my daughter loves him). While Ani's character arc with Palpatine makes sense, the romantic arc with Padme is awkward and forced at best, it's an obvious case of "they fall in love...cuz they're the main characters". Also requisite complaint about bad CGI. Especially when they have practical puppets in the same scene as CGI characters, right next to each other (e.g. the pod races).
