I think the main unsinkability is that the man exudes confidence, and it shows through in every role. And simultaneously can disappear into any role. No matter how crappy the movie is Brad Pitt remains a watchable presence. Steady as a rock. Also, I know he’s gotten more shine for it recently due to Bullet Train, but he had been an underrated comedic actor for a while. Burn After Reading, and Inglorious Basterds are some of his best roles.

I always thought that Meet Joe Black was one of those, “prestige movies,” that the studio knew would make a loss. It’s actually really good if you like family dramas. The supernatural element is intriguing but not what makes it work. It’s an emotionally charged, “classic,” or, “old,” Hollywood style of movie that you could imagine Frank Capra or Douglas Sirk directing back in the day.

How I HATE the reading up of how much movies earned or lost at the box office, like that is the determing factor in how we are told to feel about that film. Like, many of those movies, I saw and judged it myself out of what effect it had on me, not if it was a flop in dollar bills. I just think it's wrong to make movie-going or movie reviews, a competition, driven by money.

you're talking like a movie goer/fan, but movies are made for profit and that's how they are evaluated by the studios - it's box office / cost, and if it's well above 1 then it's a hit, otherwise a flop. Pitt has been a great actor but his performance is mostly uncorrelated to the movie's box office performance. I'd say most of the films he stars in are at least decent and almost all of his roles are well played - in the long run, that is what counts and what build actor's legacy. Nobody cares about box office after a while, not even the execs that get filthy rich on the movie.
@Man_Ray78
@Man_Ray78 26 күн бұрын
@@vaakdemandante8772 Obviously. If there where nobody that financed the films ,expecting a payback, there would be no movies produced and it is a business. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about how many reviewers, talk about box office profit like that is defining factor in the quality of the piece. I mean, it is nearly impossible to go unbiased to the Cinema because any reference point those so called professional critics judge the movie from is from did it make or brake. There are so many movies that are trashed, like a virus, because of the budget or how much/little they profited the first week in the Cinema, but then years later it's a masterpiece. If it is a competition race for profit, then it is not anything that I'd care to see and I usually don't see those films, and we can feel it and see it. Most of those Critics that had something to say, had something more to say than how well it did at the post office. It's just my opinion because I remember when critics did their job better.

Brad Pitt is the perfect example of why character actors have such long careers. Anyone who is asked to perform in a Cohen Bros movie is pretty good. Anyone who is solicited by Quentin Tarantino is pretty good. Anybody recruited by David Lynch is pretty good. If Neal Gordon wants you to act alongside Tom Cruise, you're pretty good. If your good enough that Heinrich Harrer casts you in a small but critically acclaimed film, then a big Hollywood film your pretty good. And if one of your starring roles made half a billion dollars and you're best friends with George Clooney.........your a bit better than pretty good and your career is as close to unsinkable as a Hollywood career gets.

Brad Pitt’s adopted kids don’t want anything to do with him.

Still, nothing to do with his acting, or his charisma to be precise. Distinguish the two, personal and professorial, or you will be unable to watch anyone. I too understand that Pitt is not the best character actor, let alone human being, but exactly that raises the question what it is about him that we, the audience, seem to still appreciate. What is screen personality? Why do people think Tom Cruise is so humble? Or K. Reeves? Because the buy the tech crew Rolex watches? Similar with DiCaprio, I am drawn back and forth with Pitt but after all he did well enough - despite or because of all the heavy narcistic deformation in Hollywood. One must understand and except that these stars mostly have very torn personalities that not only allows them to expose themselves to an unnatural extent in the first place but also interests us simply more than the normal person like you and me. The true bigotry lies in us - not in Hollywood. If Miramax for instance would not have become Hollywoods ultimate production company Weinstein would have been served right years earlier...but everyone wanted his movies. How does that go together? I mention Miramax also, because Jolie had warned Pitt and asked him to stop working for Miramax but he sticked to the success like 95% of Hollywood. Go through the list of Miramax films and decide for yourself if you can or can not watch any of them still... You'll he surprised. Not a single sane person in LA. Yet, again, isn't exactly that what we all want to watch or hear? To escape our own silly lifes for a couple of houres..?? PS: Angelina Jolie was one of the sickest childs of all of Hollywood. None of them had solid child hoods. None. Only lonely souls. Thats why they climb the stage to be admired. And we watch. Only to then criticise again... We must not feel sorry but understand and question our own little selves. Thats the true magic of movies: our own tragic life story... Why do you think you cry during a movie?

Plenty of great actors who don’t terrorize their kids and ex wife. The world is full of great decent humans, we don’t have to worship the worst ones just because they’re shoved down our throats. I like Brad’s movies and used to think he was a decent person but when all the people that actually know him best literally never wanna see him again, that’s gotta mean something.

@@akshayde you’re talking about regular audience. I’m talking about literally his closest family of 15 years. This isn’t a case of he said she said neither. He locked his wife in the bathroom and choked out his own child on a flight when drunk raging. There’s an FBI investigation because it’s their jurisdiction. This is all info from the police report. Google Brad Pitt Father’s Day and you’ll kind of understand what’s going on and just how powerful monster in Hollywood are still enabled in 2024.

IMO he’s the goat. Which is surprising because I think he was a very bad actor early in his career. I don’t think he was naturally talented the way Cruise or DiCaprio were, and was a late bloomer who surpassed everyone imo.

Anthony Hopkins refused to do more than one take for him. Having a heart attack in the meet joe black movie. Anthony said that even though he is acting his body doesn't know he isn't. Strange enough that there's been enough actors that have acted like they're having a heart attack that they actually do have one. Refusing to do multiple takes for a scene that is actually excruciating to do, is actually something That is standard practice now
