man i was where you were literally 6 months ago, but i've stayed so dedicated and done my study and it all makes sense now, its all just about staying dedicated and then soon all you'll need is the playing ability. what helped me out is all the numbers mean are references to the key note. Best of luck, I hope it makes more sense four weeks after this, you got it!!

@@YtseJuan I've been learning the CAGED system with Bernth's patreon, check him out on youtube, it's metal guitar but same theories and principles and he's a great instructor. His patreon is only $5/month and has tons of content. Ben Eller Guitars is also good too, on youtube as well but I haven't subscribed to his Patreon

That was laid out so beautifully. I'm 78 pro guitar player most of my life My first teacher dropped me because he said he had nothing left to teach me. My closest alternative was 60 miles away ( I lived in the country) I dicovered the Mickey Baker Book and quite by accident Wes Montgomery.I played Rock a Billy at the time. Although I know most of what you're doing and do a lot of it myself, It seemed to take me a life time. Played with stars of the 60s and 70s cuz I raised 4 familys and almost drank myslef out of the business. Fortunately I have a fair bass baritone voice and can sing most of the songs from the 30s thru the mid 50s. Takes some pressure off of not having the same chops anymore. My gloal was to be a great jazz guitarist. but I'm happy. I wish you all the luck in the world. You are undoutebly one of easiest teachers to follow I've ever seen (with all due respect to Jens Larson)

You had me at not playing the bass note. Great player. I’m a bass player and really wish people would stay off the bass. I’m starting to play guitar leaving the bass notes off. One example is B m7 b5 to E7 b9 is one note different. Leaving bass off. It’s hard but not playing bass notes is worth it. I’ll start checking t this video out. It is great!! Love your playing!

Thank you very much. When creating tension within the structure, are you thinking of leaving the key or simply creating tension against it? As an example, I often irritate myself when playing by deliberately removing tension in favour of a rounded melody, if that makes sense? So I'm trying to understand more about how tension is employed and why. I understand that tension can create movement, but it often sounds tense enough for me to actively avoid it, sonically speaking, rather than entertain it and move with it. Thanks again! All of this I find way easier on the keyboard because you can count up to the 13th if you're stuck. I also started with piano so take w grain of salt.

I recommend finding a jazz guitar teacher, and after a few months, you'll start to understand the theory, and how it works. Try to find The Chord Factory, by Jon Damian, it's excellent at explaining how chords work.
