My roommate in college first exposed me to black metal at the tender age of 18. I still love the first albums I heard. As a closed minded hardcore kid I was not initially receptive to it but it opened a whole new realm once I shut up and listened. The first two Emperor albums, Darkthrone's unholy trinity, Moonspell "Wolfheart" and Cradle Of Filth "Cruelty And The Beast" still all have a special place in my black heart.

Gorgoroth is the shit man, especially their stuff with haat and pest on vocals. I started with burzum when I was like 12, and of course went to mayhem next and dove head first into that story and was pretty fascinated by how evil and esoteric it felt to like black metal. Now days it's nothing to know about it, but in the early/mid 2000s when kids weren't quite online all the time it was still somewhat shocking to the general public. I pretty much stick with most of/all the classic second wave bands and their respective catalogs these days along with some more obscure stuff like tundra, Ethos, and urgehal. But I might end up exploring more modern shit soon enough

My first experience with black metal was way back in 98/99 when i was shopping at my favorite music store Hastings. I saw this amazing album cover with a pentagram and was kinda scared but curious what it sounded like. I bought it used. Its Hecate Enthroned - The Slaughter Of Innocence, A Requiem For The Mighty. Now go back a couple years before that i saw a used cd but wasnt ready yet. That was Dark Funeral - Secret of the Black Arts. Crimson Moon - To Embrace Vampyric Blood, Ancient - Cainian Chronicle, Emperor - IX Equilibrium, Mayhem - Live in Leipzig, Cradle Of Filth - Cruelty and the Beast, Rotting Christ - Triarchy of the Lost Lovers are some of my introductions to black metal. I was surrounded with alot of extreme music around 98/99 thanks to my curiosity and my friends. We became addicted to music collecting and i'm still collecting music to this day. I'm still collecting stuff from the 90's too. You'd think i've had it all if you seen my collection. Right now i'm getting In Aeternum's 2nd, 3rd and 4th full length s plus few EPs i need. first album i already own. Elysian Fields - Adelain. They're from Greece and really good.

I am 52 and just started getting into black metal......a lifelong Black Sabbath, ACDC, Motorhead fan that has grown weary from listening to those same albums and bands of s similar ilk after 40 plus years...Jesus Christ, I NEVER need to hear Paranoid, Crazy Train, Ace OF Spades, Back In Black, Run To The Hills, etc EVER again. I started my black metal experience last summer with, predictably, Freezing Moon with Dead. As I pursued exploring new black metal bands, the history of, especially, Mayhem and Darkthrone (Fenriz seems to be the go to black metal musician for journalists) has been extremely interesting. From Mayhem, I went directly to the "Unholy Trinity" with Darththrone...big fan of TO Walk The Infernal Fields and The Hordes of Nebula. I am currently interested in Wrest or Mr Jef Whitehead and Leviathan. I know that they are not black metal, but I have also started blasting Electric Wizard lately as well. My wife of 947 years yells at me from another room, "Turn that demonic sounding bullshit down!" Haha.....the heaviest band she listens to is Def Leppard!

When I was 17, I got introduced to Darkthrone from doing a plumbing job at this dude's crazy house (den would be more accurate). He had huge bighorn ram skulls mounted on the wall and candelabra's everywhere. The walls were black and lightfixtures were all this maroon red so you hardly see shit in the place. One thing I noticed in his massice CD collection was this band with bright white text called "Darkthrone". First album was "Under a funeral moon" and for my Melodeath loving ass, that was a bit unsettling at first, especially coming from that house. Dissection would be the band that warned me up to Black Metal eventually and now it's the majority of what I listen to. That extreme metal station on GTA 4 LaD had some real good stuff and I think "Call from the grave" was on it so Bathory was another early one.

Mayhem. I was in school when all hell broke lose in Norway with burning churches, murder, etc. I played Black Metal in the mid nineties (and still do). At the same time I heard Emperor, Samael, Enthroned, Impaled Nazarene, Dimmu Borgir (For All Tid and Stormblåst-when they were still old school), Dark Funeral (of course! their incessant blast beats were very much a stylistic choice that many Black Metal bands used, but, yes, they become a little boring), and the very first Cradle of Filth (they changed a lot and not to the better). But Mayhem will always be my number one!

And after that, I get exposed to a lot of black metal bands like Satyricon, Immortal and other really underground bands from Czech Republic or something like that in a video called " The most ridiculous black metal videoclips " or something like that haha

The first time i got introduced to BM was some time in 1996/1997 i was 15 years old and there was a documentary about it tv. I thought it sounded like shit😆 ... Some years later i became a huge fan of bands like Opeth and Katatonia. And then it snowballed me to BM..

Still need to really get used to raw black metal. I listen to some stuff here and there, especially first wave stuff, but I am not fully into the genre yet.

The first time I really got into Black Metal I think it was Junior Year, and I was in weightlifting and I had put on Marduk's Nightwing and Panzer Division Marduk and I immediately fell in love.

The album that got me into black Metal is the Nachtmystium album “Addicts”.
