I have a Cocker Spaniel who is one year old today. When I take her for a walk she often sniffs along the route for quite a while. She is very friendly with visitors and is such a pleasure to be part of our family.

If my English Cocker had thumbs i would insist she get a job.......she is really, REALLY.....like eerily bright. She learns so very quickly......she is very energetic at 8 years old and is still learning.

Wow, I had no idea there were so many interesting secrets about Cocker Spaniels! I especially loved learning about their unique hunting abilities and how they were originally bred for that purpose. This video was so informative and well put together. Thank you for sharing this 😊

I was never a fan of small dogs until I got an English Cocker Spaniel for my lonely granddaughter. I always had Iarge dogs. But this little bundle of fun changed that immediately! My granddaughter took the puppy to her bedroom and said that by morning, the puppy would know how to sit, paw, down, and lay....she was just 7 weeks old and already knew how to fetch when we got her! And yes! The next morning, the puppy did all that...in both English and German! We still have her today, and she has entered her 16th year. She has been a complete bundle of joy for all of us.

Wow! It really made me happy to read your comment😊 Cocker Spaniels really become the best companions. What is your Spaniel's name?

I love your story. I've had one blond, one red and now a chocolate brown and white. This last one is the smartest and has the goofiest personality. She won't go outside to pee unless I go with her to observe. Funny.

As a proud Cocker Spaniel owner, I found this video to be incredibly fascinating! I never knew that Cocker Spaniels have such a wide range of coat colors or that they were once the most popular breed in America. It's amazing how much history and personality are packed into these adorable dogs.

Yes they are seen in old movies as pets. Elizabeth Barret Browning had an English cocker named Flush.

They are, 1st and foremost, a working hunting dog. Please don't be fooled by their adorable expression and lovely nature, (both of which are true). They are by nature and hundreds of years of breeding working dogs, not house pets. They love to firstly flush game, originally woodcocks - hence the name cocker- and then retrieve it after it is shot. The same with rabbits. Retrieving is instinctive to them. They are highly intelligent but this can lead to an infuriating stubbornness, and they can be very self willed. That's not to say that they don't make great pet dogs. But be aware that they have many characteristics that can make training difficult and time consuming. Be prepared to take a hours and weeks and months of time and effort, and I MEAN more time and effort than you may imagine, (not like a Labrador, who are so easy to train) into training a cocker spaniel, but if you do, you will be rewarded with the best dog on earth.

My ECS is an awesome companion. The perfect breed for me. She would NOT be a good dog for a couch potato, however.

How i hate to see this Adorable cocker spaniel with no tail. The tail is a very important part of a cockers way of communicating. So stop that crime or even better don’t get a cocker if you haven’t room for its beautiful tail.
