Watching these ancient machines reminds me of a friend who inherited his grandfather's old tractor. It was a relic from decades past, but he restored it with so much care. He said it wasn’t just a machine-it was a piece of his family’s history, still working to this day, just like these incredible examples.

While stationed in England I remember seeing the "Lady in the Lake" as the locals called it? Even swam out to it and dove around it with a snorkel and face mask. I saw a video a couple of years ago about it being recovered and being restored.

The largest power shovel in northern California, maybe in all of California, is steam powered.

The advent of steam power in the 18th century revolutionized machinery. Notably, some steam engines from the 19th century are still in working condition, often maintained by enthusiasts and showcased in museums or during special events, illustrating the transition from manual to mechanized labor.

I've always wanted to know about the German equivalent to our (English speaking world) industrial pioneering machines, as I find that they developed quite an exquisite industrial base with homegrown technology. Because of the Nazi era, we give them a bad rap, but in industry and technology, they are truly brilliant.

it would be nice if the equipment shown is not what they are talking about

my mom's tea pot is steam powered, and still runs today - hey you kind of used the same examples a couple a times, like the B-50 and the canal shovels and then the track mounted shovels at the end - no misspoken words through the whole video mr. AI, now do my homework - and in conclusion, the reason they dont use these machines anymore is because diesel hydraulic machines would eat them for lunch - with the a/c going, listening to funkytown and a cupholder to boot -

What if they had figured out a bucket wheel in the Panama Canal.

I don’t think they had the support equipment necessary for a bucket wheel excavator. The key to building the Panama Canal was the use of railroads to remove the dirt. Setting up the conveyor systems required by a bucket wheel excavator I don’t think was an option. I worked on the Canal Trimming and lining Equipment for the Ghazi - Barotha power channel. To my knowledge the mass excavation was done using Holland Excavators. Typically design engineer I was hired to design the equipment. When the designing was done it was made quite clear I needed to find a new position. I still wonder how well the systems I designed worked.

the overlay of fake 'noise' artefacts & the repetition of the phase "did you know?" made this unbearable for me, content seems like it could be OK, but the production quality was not.
