All I can say is that surfing is complicated and very hard!

Very hard at first, but then gets easier and easier.

@@dicksanders8206 thanks. I’m 63 which doesn’t help. I also don’t get out enough. I surf in New Jersey and the conditions there are often tough. Choppy poorly forming waves, undertows, and wrong direction winds. Or maybe I’m just making excuses!😎

@@fmcfish1 I was fortunate to be born in Santa Monica, CA, a short drive to Malibu. We had many good surfing spots in the area. Started board surfing in the 8th grade. But I actually enjoyed surfing more when I moved to Manhattan Beach, and then surfed the beach breaks (no rocks), and later to Long Beach, where I surfed Huntington and Seal Beach. Last time I surfed I was 63. I'm now 76 and long retired from surfing. But I still like watching the surf videos. I never used anything other than a long board. All my boards were between 8 foot 6 inches and 9 feet 4 inches. Consider yourself lucky to still be surfing at 63. Enjoy!

@@dicksanders8206 congratulations on having such a great surfing run. You’re lucky. I didn’t try surfing until I was about 57 and I only get out about 2-3 times/ summer. Thus a slow learning curve. I wish I started when I was young. But I’m still going to keep working at it. I like the vibe of the surfing community and I enjoy being out in the water, though I’m out of shape. Every little progress is a victory. I enjoy the challenge of trying to learn a new sport. Watching videos is great but there’s nothing more helpful than being in the water and trying. I’ve taken a few lessons which has been some help but ultimately I just have to keep trying.

Interesting video, thanks. So, when I take off fairly straight on my longboard because it's easier to get the speed and then grab the rail to pull the board hard to the left or right, is that bad technique?
@barefoot_surf2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jonathan! Not at all, being able to to a 90-degree carve like you are describing and continuing with the wave is great carving technique. You would probably only want to angle to ease into faster waves that would not allow you to carve this way.
