Kale that is the best learning video ever not that I have surfed for a long time now but you break it down into the little pieces of each stage of a process to do great bottom and top turns. I used to try to watch people surfing in slow motion to try and understand how they did such incredible turns and now you put the science behind it well done. Thanks Dave

hey Kale, i'm looking for intermediate bottom turn advice for when speed on the drop starts to change the balance of the bottom turn.. there have been some days where i've lost the bottom turn by losing the "oneness" with my board by initiating the turn quicker than the board allows at speed i'm also trying to get more confidence riding the whitewash line more to beat a section and then more aggressively bottom turning into the action of the wave and harness the moments that feel like the speed is less controllable.. don't know if you have a video for that
@KalesBroccoli2 ай бұрын

Watch any rippers on the gold coast. I never seen surfing like that before. They go way out onto the flat and jam the most insane bottom turn and head back at the face straight at it. And smash the lip then head back way back out onto the flats and repeat again.

Hey kale really enjoying your videos. Can I ask how these manoeuvres translate to mid length boards where you open the turns more for smoother manoeuvres compared to a short board ? Cheers

Same principles apply. But, a longer slower expression of power may be necessary depending on board choice - a good mid length should be manoeuvrable

Awesome video. Quick question: I often bog rail on my backside bottom turns and cutbacks on my forehand. I went through your surfer's roadmap courses, but couldn't seem to find an answer as to why this could be. I'm guessing it's because I'm putting too much weight on my front foot when turning. If so, approximately what % of weight should be over the back of the board when turning?
@KalesBroccoli2 ай бұрын
So you’re in the same position in both those techniques - leaning back on the heels. You should focus on sitting in a chair, feeling tension behind and around the knees, to achieve stability. Most people who experience this are standing too tall
