The raccoon dogs are creatures that I have randomly seen at odd times during the night here in Japan.

Okapi’s are actually my countries native animal (DRC 🇨🇩) they’re the giraffes only living relative. But are sadly endangered due to poaching. They are such mesmerising/confusing animals when looked at in real life. But I love them 😂❤ Edit: After further discussion in the comments I was able to find out Okapi are not the sole living relative of the Giraffe, but Pronghorns are a part of that family to. Learn something new everyday 😍🙌🏾

not the only living relative, but definitely the closest. They gotta be my favorite animal
@angelntoni2404 Жыл бұрын
@@broganoverholser6016 it actually is the only living relative. I had to search it up myself because I was so shocked 🤣
@broganoverholser6016 Жыл бұрын
@angelntoni2404 what about the pronghorn? Again, not as close as the okapi, but still a living relative. All three are the only extant members of the group Giraffoidea, with said group splitting in the family Antilocapridae (pronghorn) and Giraffidae (okapi and giraffe) Edit: sorry I kinda went on a tangent there. If that sounded rude with the corrections, that was not my intent
@angelntoni2404 Жыл бұрын
@@broganoverholser6016 oh no worries, I love conversations like this myself. I always grew up with the knowledge that Pronghorns were a part of the Antelope family. After doing research you are so correct!! That’s actually very interesting! I’ll add that as an edit on my first comment 🙌🏾

1:58 The okapi is the only living relative of the giraffe they only live in the jungles of northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo they are also called zebra giraffes forest giraffes and African unicorns
@Vincisomething Жыл бұрын
They're not the only, pronghorns are also very closely related to giraffes. Tier zoo made a video on them. Most people mistake them for a type of antelope. There are sites that say the okapi is the only living relative, but they're wrong. Which is a shame because that site was national geographic, which should know better...
@tobiasedwards2643 Жыл бұрын
@@Vincisomething I forgot about them but they are more more distant relatives as they aren’t in the Giraffidae family
@Vincisomething Жыл бұрын
@@tobiasedwards2643 the family they belong in is closely related to giraffids, as they belong in the same order. Imo, it seems kind of misleading when NG words things like that when they mean closest living relative in the same family because most people will take that as the giraffe has no other living relatives, even distant. It feels like if someone were to talk about how dolphins and whales belong in the same infraorder, but never once mentioned hippos when talking about common ancestors. Probably nitpicking, but I'm sure that's why most people were taught pronghorns are antelopes. Not as bad as people that don't believe in evolution because they thought scientifists meant humans evolved from monkeys
@tobiasedwards2643 Жыл бұрын
@@Vincisomething well that and that pronghorns convergently evolved with antelopes
@Vincisomething Жыл бұрын
@@tobiasedwards2643 That doesn't point to a true relation, they're still not true antelopes. Convergent evolution happens with unrelated species. Antelopes, deers, elks, cattle are all part of the same order, but then they get put into different families with certain families being closer related to others.

Another thing about Saigas is that they always give birth to twins. Seriously. Well ALMOST always. Sometimes one will get absorbed by the other, but most of the time a Saiga is preggers, she will give birth to twins. Every pregnancy resulting in twins is a shafting by Mother Nature, even though it does help them carry on the family line by doubling the liklihood of at least one living to make babies itself.
