These were all such great ideas! I was wondering if you come up with all the ideas or see them on websites or apps? Also what is your favorite rat website?
@ShadowTheRat6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Some of them come from other people’s videos (for example the first 3 treat kabobs were based on other DIY videos). Some of them are just things I made up on the spot (for example the large tunnel and flower treat forager). And some of them are based off previous rodent toys that I bought (such as the rope bridge and treat hanger). Website wise I have to say that I’m biased towards my own rat website :P (rattrix.weebly.com/ ) But for other rat websites I like there is rat forum for a great rat community (www.ratforum.com/ ), rat guide for health purposes ( ratguide.com/), and join rats for behavior/play purposes (www.joinrats.com ).

I tried the first diy toy with my mice and in retrospect it was likely too big for them. Though I think they managed to get the treats out but didn't play with it. Not that I noticed anyway. I also tried the one where you twist tissues around the tube, they did get to the treats though I'm not sure if they played it it or not. Something I noticed in the vid is once or twice for each diy toy you made after the box fold one is white orbs floating around. I don't know if you believe in that sort of thing, but the orbs moved around like a rat playing would. Except for the first one that seemed to be moving at a casual pace towards your lap. The rest, like I said, seemed like they were at play.
@ShadowTheRat6 жыл бұрын
To be fair, my rats mainly go for the treats and ignore the toy until they feel like stashing it :P

Sorry, i really like your videos. It's just I don't understand how to insert the third or fourth piece on the first one as your hand was in the way. What so you do?
@ShadowTheRat3 жыл бұрын
Push it through the small opening between the other pieces - if need be push them aside some. It should be a really snug fit, so that the treats don't fall out once you insert them.

I love your videos, they've been so helpful as I've been trying to prepare for having some rats of my own! Quick question though, what would you say the daily treat allotment is? I don't want to overfeed or anything like that and I know that they have can have a sweet tooth
@ShadowTheRat6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Daily treat allotment would vary depending on your rats age and what treat your using. For things like meat baby food you want to stick to 1-3 times a week with older rats, just because too much protein can cause skin and kidney issues in rats over 6 months. For treats like Cheerios and Gerber puffs, I usually take a handful or so and break them into 2-4 pieces each. Then that's what I use for training. I can't say what the amount is, but if your free-feeding your rats good lab blocks and only giving treats at training time, they shouldn't be over-eating.
@maryw.57795 жыл бұрын
@@ShadowTheRat I think you're going to send me to hamster sites. I give Sweetie freeze-dried insects as part of her breakfast and nighttime snack, and keep her seed mix and lab blocks in her cage to eat when she wants. When the SPCA gave her to me, they only knew she was an adult. She was, and still is, a big girl. I don't want to ruin her health by giving in to her begging.

Hi! is it possible to tell me what the hooks are called you used for the bridge? :3 Really nice ideas with almost just toiletpaper rolls, knew I could use them for something! :D
@ShadowTheRat5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, I got them from these things called "mini bungie cords" that i used to use to hang stuff up and once the bungie cords broke I'd take the 2 hooks off to reuse and trash the broken elastic part.
@AnicaNorman2 жыл бұрын
what do you call those hooks cant find them anyware
@ShadowTheRat2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I'm not sure, I used to buy mini bungy cords in bulk to hang things in my rats cage and they all come with these tiny metal hooks on both end. So when the cord got chewed, I saved the metal hooks and reused them.
