The Grimlock is a Knockoff from the Prehistory Animals line ....they had that Grimlock, Snarl as himself but in Black instead of Red, Sludge as a Griffon (listed as a Prontosaurus) and Slag as a Triceratops with Antlers . The Museum of Science in Boston had them all for sale in their gift shop back in the 80s.

I got a neat knockoff jumpstarter, which is more akin to the one you showed. However, it comes with a tail and a rex like head from zoids. It also has a robot mode, a flying dino mode and a dino mode.

That is very cool. I used to have a collection of Jumpstarters that were every different color variation and even a few new molds. I'm putting that collection back together slowly, I hope, and might feature it in a video at some point.

I'm lovin' it! And yes, those mini-Seacons are psychedelic. I missed out on the Predacon knockoffs that are similarly loud.

One of my brothers had a transformer knock-off which was a space shuttle. It was huge. My other brother got one that was a jeep. I found myself recently one that was a police car. It amazes me how, despite being knock-offs, the manufacters put actual effort. I dare to say: even more effort than some modern Hasbro official Transformers products

the modified grimlock have all the telltale signs of the old Gig distribution, so if anything, it's antecedent to the transformers as we know it the bits and pieces seems to point out to a deleted '84 version of the same diaclone subline the dinobt originated from, sort of an updated version of the team, getting the axe due to the transformers becoming a thing. I can only find KO, cinese versions of the box tho, so I would take the plunge and say it's a stolen original mold (os, still, gained in less than fully official ways)

I had the dragon Sludge back in the 80s. I am pretty sure it was a knock-off. The instructions were only offered in Spanish; I figured sticker placement and transforming steps because of familiarity with the actual Dinobot. The guns fired missiles with considerably greater force than the official Sludge version, and the accompanying Energo Sword was rigid plastic rather than soft and flexible; I figured that these obvious safety issues in the hands of young children were evidence that this toy was a knock-off rather than a licensed alternate market version.

So, there was a French company called Savie that started making a lot of models from Japanese lines, it isn't clear if they actually aquired the licenses for the robots for their Hergoss line. They were known not to print their mark on the robots but they did release Dinobots like yours and Macross and Orguss toys as well. That might explain why the quality is so good since they are a long time toy company. I guess Europe didn't have the child safety rules like the USA. Knock-offs back then were almost always worse plastic and lower quality metal. It's really amazing how much that has improved these days.

Okay. We got the gag. Now gag it. We're not gagging for it. And cut. Aaand cut. Aaaaand cut. You just had to go and kill it, didn't you. And no, that's not a question. You did. And yes, killing the joke is a bad thing. Always has been, always will be. There's no warrant for acting like a geek, Einstein. And the only reward is obvious: Darwin's.
