My criteria for names was they had to suit all ages, (as you mentioned) so when choosing them my husband and I matched them with " hush little ____________, don't you cry" (baby stage) , "___________ eat your peas!" (for the toddler stage) and also imagining them in a romantic situation as an adult , " __________ will you marry me?" I think it's worked so far. Ha,ha. Never got to use my girl names, as we only had boys but I love the old fashioned 'grandma names' that are coming back like Mabel.

northernsteph yes a lot of them are for instance she mentioned ruby that was my dad's cousins name as well as my nieces friend , Margaret is another that's coming back in many forms I'd use it as it's a family name whereas mums name is really only used by members of her generation she's ( 83) not many Joan's amongst young people but I've always loved the Irish form of her name ( siobhan )

Girrrl! We are on the same wavelength when it comes to names. My girls are Wren and Piper, and we named one of the little girls we lost Nora. Oh, and my dog is Luke. I think I lean toward names that are unique but not weird, although I constantly have to say, "Wren, like the bird," because it's kind of weird. Esme is a favorite of mine too!

Shaun and I are so bad with nicknames - Lucas is Lukey, Lulu, Lou, Lucifer, Lukestar... Callum is Callie beans, Coco, coco beans, cokie, bean town.... today i found myself calling him bing bong! But the worst is ... recently we were with some bigger kids talking about nicknames, and they said 'Lucas - what's your nickname?' I love original names and I must say, you had quite a few interesting ones! I find it fascinating how almost any word can become a beautiful name in English. And I didn't know you could speak French... Impressive! I'm from Montreal too and my daughter's name is Alizée, which is the French name for the tropical Trade winds, and if we have a little boy, we will call him Kasper. Oh, and I agree it's hard to imagine certain names as adults, especially for girls. I'm good friends with a Ruby (I also love that name) so I can totally see it. I loved the name Coral when I was pregnant but couldn't picture it as a strong adult name. But I'm sure there are many fabulous and fierce women named Coral out there!

LOVE all of your names, Amanda. Jack River is such a nice name. Before our son Camden was born, we were going to name him Hudson - I thought it was a nice strong name. But when Camden came out, he just had a more gentle spirit than Hudson. Jack was definitely on my list for either girl or boy, along with Charlie for a girl. I also considered Violet and other flower names if we had a girl, as my name is Ananda Rose - and Ananda is not pronounced like Amanda, but instead each "a" is a long "a," like "Ah-non-duh." It's a Sanksrit name.

Another trend I love is bringing vintage names back names like Emily , Amelia Charlotte , even my nans name is making a comeback albeit in a shorter form Hannah ( Johanna is my nan ) or ones like ruby , pearl names like those . But another trend I've always liked is floral names could be cause I have a niece with one she's a Jasmine . Also had a few in other family , dad had cousins and aunts with those sort of names Gladys , ivy daphne , olive and he has a cousin Iris all those sort are just beautiful and my friends mum and Her daughter are both Rose 🌹

I love these. My mom's name is Ruby (named after her mom). My boys are Jack Ellis and Joseph Garry (Joe, easier for a 3 yr old). I really wanted to use Garry after my dad who has passed but I thought it was too grown for a little boy. Everybody always asks if Jack is short for Jackson but it's not. My FIL is Jackie so we went with Jack. The girl name we had picked out but won't be using is Ellie Grace.

Another part to baby naming videos I haven't seen addressed is last names for your child. When Mothers choose to keep their own names would you give your kids their Dad's sur name, or a hyphenated version of both names? Why would you make the choice you do? When I married (30 years ago!) I kept my own last name, which was becoming more common in Canada but my husband is from a small Yorkshire village and his parents had a hard time accepting that and mostly worried about what our children would be called. "What would teachers think when Mom has a different name then kids? Oh my!" Our children have his sur name, mostly because his family was very small and their line was fading out, while my family is huge. Still wondering when it comes to hyphenated names, what will it be like in the future when people have children, and they have children? Will the string of names just keep getting longer?

northernsteph In Canada you can only have one hyphen in your last name. My kids have hyphenated last names - no idea what they'll do when they get married but I'll be fine with whatever they choose!

I didn't know that. But maybe you could combine the names without a hyphen? I've also heard of parents giving their children different last names. The girls get the mom's last name and the boys get the dad's . Will make for an interesting family history search in years to come.

Luc was our top boy name! Since we're in the process of trying to find a name for our little boy due this summer I have been gravitating towards these name videos. With my son it wasn't even a thought. We knew his name instantly, this time nothing seems right. When I saw you posted I just knew I had to watch and that you'd have some names I love. You mentioned a couple that were already on my top 5 ;) I am totally with you on short sweet names. I've spent months trying to think up the perfect name for this new human, I don't want it altered to anything else. (Though to be completely honest I rarely call my son by his name "Ian".
