We spent a month in spello 10 years ago and had a great time. The highlight was the infiorata where petals are used to make incredible designs and pictures that line the streets. I wish I could post photos on here to show what I mean 🤣. We never got bored (Italian friends looked so puzzled when we told them we were staying there a month!!) - every day wandering the little streets, seeing the sun hit different spots, every day we saw something new. Great base to explore the area too. It was a magical month and very hard to leave.

My first trip to Italy in 2016, my sister and I hit San Gimignano for a couple of hours on a vineyard tour day. We loved it so much, we made a point of staying there overnight on our trip in 2018, renting a car and driving from Florence. We loved it even more that time! When the buses are gone for the day, and the town settles in, it's stunning. Your other suggestions are gorgeous, too. I'll have to hit a couple of them once I can get to Italy again. Thanks for the video! Loved it!

San Gimignano, stayed at the Leon Bianco. San G was our "home base." The Tuscan area and smalls town is what Italy is all about. It helps me being Italian! Cooking classes, the Verrazzano Winery, the whole area from Florence to Cinque Terre. Sorrento stayed at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte and used as our base, Capri and down the coast. Rome stayed at Casa Salvatoriani right there, main road leading to the steps of St Peters. Just walked out the front door look right and there it is. What a sight. It used to be where priests stayed when working at the Vatican. We ate and went to non tourist places. Look for restaurants that do not have menus in 3 or four languages, only Italian. Mingled with the people the whole trip. Three weeks three hotels. My girlfriends first trip. I feel at home being Italian. Did not look relatives up this time, my parents and grandparents have passed. Stayed with my grandfathers brother many years ago where he was born. Plan to go again next year and do the small towns only. For first timers there are must places to see.

You have not only shown my home town, Salerno, which never comes up when talking about visiting Italy, but you have actually shown my neighborhood "Torrione". The name comes from the castle in your video, in actuality more akin to a big tower, from which "Torrione" (big tower in Italian, the real name is "La Carnale"). Thanks!

Nice video and agree with Pienza, and thank you for not mentioning Piemonte. After doing the major must see tourist sites, we repeat visit Biella, Asti, Alba, Bra, Barolo, Cuneo, even Muzzano (waiter said we're the 3rd Americans he's met). Alps surround you with distant vistas, rolling Langhe country rivals Tuscany views. Shhh...don't tell others. :):)

Hi I would like to thank you for mentioning one the area, which I hold dear ever since I was born. As for wines, I think it's very difficult to me to pick a specific one. There are literally hundreds, perhaps thousands of them, one every mile sometimes it seems. I agree with the suggestions below (Cittadella, Castelfranco del Veneto, etc.) but would add Portogruaro (also in the Veneto), Cividale di Friuli, in Puglia Castel Sant'Angelo, Ostuni, Giovinazzo, Martina Franca, Lecce, Otranto, Ruvo di Puglia, Orvieto and Perugia in Umbria, Urbino in the Marche, Canobbio in Lombardy, the list goes on and on and on, way too many to mention. Oh, and don't get me started about the food: the best in the world. Never, ever have I had a bad meal in Italy (in France, at least 50% of the time...).

Just wanted to say three things. I didn’t know abt Chioggia and will definitely visit. Pienza is by far the most beautiful town I have ever seen. San Gimignano is a hell hole.

The 'g' in the middle of Italian words is silent. The double g. is pronounced like a j. The c. in Scicli is also silent. Thank you for this vid!

LAst summer I was back and staying in Padua and I was with my 16 year old son. It had the same affect on him. Can't wait to get back when able to to do it. which is yr home town?

Kudos for adding Salerno, it's a great starting point for visiting all the cool places of the region, you forgot to mention that you can also use Salerno for visiting the ancient greek settlement of Paestum. Salerno is the place to chill out in the evening and has many nice attractions of it's own!

I am pleased to share the etymology of Camogli. The extender of the vocabulary "Devoto Oli". Devoto identified in the Ligurian dialect: "Ca a muggi" or "Ca de Muggie" Respectively: houses in piles or house of wives. It was a Rai documentary from the 1950s

Love the video. Please note that in Italian: (a) the "gn" in "Polignano" pronounced like "ni" in "onion", so you say "polinyano". I note that you pronounce "San Gimignano" correctly. (b) "chi" is always pronounced "ki", so "Chioggia" is "kyojja".
