#9 The Roan Quarter Horse -- Close, but no cigar. Quarter Horse is a breed, Roan is a color that can be exhibited in several different breeds. Though, I will give you, it is most common among Quarter Horses. There are also different Roan colors: •Blue Roan is a base black coat with white hairs throughout •Red/Strawberry Roan is a base chestnut coat with white hairs throughout •Bay Roan is a base bay coat (brown with black points, mane & tail) with white hairs throughout These Roan colors can also happen with painted coats as well.

My parents brought home a beautiful, young, 'wild' Paint for me when I was a 14y.o. She (Baeb) scared the living hell out of me at first. She was rebellious and often too smart. Over a few months, and after many times of being bucked off, knocked off via tree limbs and tossed into blackberry bushes, we built a great friendship. The beautiful saddle they got me was rarely used, which ticked off my Dad, lol. I didn't need it, and often just left the harness resting in front of me in case of emergency. She responded by touch and commands by the first year. I miss that horse still, and I'm almost 60y.o. now. Love this video, thanks for sharing. : )

My first horse was a paint. Boy was he a handful but just like you we became great friends without the need of a saddle or halter. I would just lay on his back and go to sleep. He was do gentle with me. I was only 10 when we got the paint

My favorite breed is the Appaloosa! My favorite pattern is is when it has half or 3/4 of it's body a solid color and then the croup spotted, possibly going down the back legs too. No doubt though, all these horses are beautiful.

In addition I found it hard to listen through to the end due to the tenor of the narrators voice. However, some great captures photographically. Someone needs education. The Friesian and Gyspy Vanner are 2 separate breeds. I hate when people do videos that aren't even acurate. The crosses are not a breed! A Friesian Appaloosa is no different than other grade horses. The Black Forest horse may not even be a real breed, and they hot the colors all wrong! A chestnut with a blond manes and tail are called Sorrels! A liver colored horse with an off white main and tail is a chocolate Palomino, and a true Palomino is golden with a white manes and tail.

@Denise Uhlry I have to disagree. There is so much misinformation out there that correcting it is important. A full 90% of this video is completely wrong. Would you want your child to do a report on this for school? Or to get their first horse and be laughed out of the stable? How about being ripped off by some unscrupulous seller charging an outrageous price for a common horse that they claim is rare? Some of the claims here are so ridiculous it's the same as someone trying to pass off a German Shepherd for a poodle. How would you feel if someone made an "educational" video about your chosen profession or passion and got all of the information wrong? What if you were a car mechanic and someone was trying to pass off a VW Beetle as a Mack truck? These may seem like ridiculous comparisons, but to horse people this is literally the same thing.

A liver horse with a flax mane and tail can often be a chocolate dapple, or liver chestnut. A chocolate (smutty) palomino has more of a golden highlight to the coat.

Roan is standard in many breeds, Im also proud owner, of an Icelandic blue roan stallion, and this breed has the most extreme roan coloring, thanks to their double coat (their undercoat is effected by roan gene and always white) making them a seasonal colorchanger. My horse is snow white in spring and autumn, with his head, legs, mane and tail pitch black! And in winter he is solid black, in summer silver blue. Most roans in other breeds stay silverish year round., Icelandic roans you wont recognise in winter until the wind blows in their coat.

Actually I don't think it was having a hard time carrying the man as much as it was possibly (if anything) trying to navigate the foliage and the like. Seeing as it has more of a draft build the horse is breed to carry heavier load than a somewhat overweight human male. So no, not necessarily "poor horse"

All breeds can have the pinto pattern . The. American Paint Horse is a blood breed that only allows the American Quarter Horse and the Thoroughbred as outcrosses. The Pinto Horse Association however , allows any breed, including minis, donkeys, and mules.

A true Appaloosa has a "rat tail" - a tail that is thin and scraggly. It also has stripped hooves.

Not all "true" Appies have far tails. The Toby ok e, for one, runs to thick tails and it is a Foundation line. A fat tail is not a required characteristic like the white scores mottled skin and stripedhooves. However,if you are lamenting crisscrossing with QH diluting breed characteristics, I agree.
