I lived in the countryside of Northern New York for most of my life. An opossum showed up at my house one winter with a little kitten. Opossums will mother any lost baby, and it found a cold hunger kitten and brought it to me. I named him Alphie. The opossum came every evening for years to go off in the cornfield and play with him. It was many years ago, and I miss them both dearly❤

Death Valley-Furnace Creek Ranch 9-28-14 This is my “Death Valley-Furnace Creek Ranch” story. I'm looking at the scene in a video where the Lone Ranger first rides Silver. When I was a kid me and a friend hitch-hiked to Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley. For a job as a waiter and then later a fry cook. We walked the last 25 miles in the heat of summer. There was a little pond across the street we used to swim and bath in. It was so hot you'd get out of the pond and be bone dry before you walked 10 feet. “Dry” The heat was dry. You never saw or felt or experienced anything like it. I have a few stories from this time but the one about the horses is my favorite. Horses like to have fun and they have a sense of humor. I was walking on the golf course, which they close in the summer, and saw a bunch of horses which were let loose to graze. There were probably about six or eight of them. I walked up and started stroking their noses and patting them. Then got a wild hair to jump on one of them. Well this sucker took off. He was galloping like a horse out of a western......and then stopped dead in his tracks. I went flying. The grass was like a wrestling mat so I didn't get hurt. The horses started gathering around me, (the other horses had galloped alongside us), and I went ahead and jumped on another one. Same thing; the horse took off like a bat out of hell for about a hundred yards and stopped on a dime......and I went flying. I did this with all the horses for about an hour till I got tired and started walking back to my cabin. There were two maids standing there who had seen the whole thing and one of them said, “What are you trying to do? Kill those poor horses?” But the other lady spoke up and said “Mabel, those horses were having just as much fun as he was.” True story. When I was a kid I was riding a horse at a full gallup. I think I had what was a "blanket saddle"? Anyway the saddle slipped and I found myself hanging on for dear life under the horse while it kept galloping. I think it was John Rhine, a friend that I was riding with, who reined in the horse and kept me from getting trampled. Another time I was riding a borrowed horse alone up a trail and feeling and seeing only one thing after my horse was startled by a rattler; I felt a bump on my ass and I was lifting my face from the dirt just in time to see the horses ass disappear over a hill. Taking up a couple of non-barbed wire lines of fence with it on its way home. I guess I should add here that when we entered the cafeteria of the FCR we were stopped dead by British marching music and this guy in a British uniform, shorts and all marching around the restaurant. I forget exactly what the occasion was but it turned out to be the manager doing some old home week or something. He was from England and probably served in the military. One of these days I'll do some research on that. I forget if this was “below” or “above” at The Inn. Furnace Creek Ranch had a campground and motel where the regular folk stayed and then there was what I call “The Inn” up above. They had a natural hot springs that they funneled into a stream that round through this palm tree garden via a stream was made of stones Someone told me it has every palm tree in the world there. It was beautiful and just like some kind of oasis. It was real shady. The stream fed this huge pool with the Inn's logo at the bottom and on each side of the pool were these huge stone fireplaces. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around this now thinking back all those years but I think they closed down the Inn at the height of summer as the employees were able to use the pool. (I have memories of some of the most wild nights of my life that isn't fit for children. I couldn't believe how people let their hair down at these resorts. I had hair down to my ass at the time and acted like the “free love” hippie that I was.) The stream filled the pool and then continued down to this little pond. Where there were four or five huge goldfish that had somehow come down from somewhere at the Inn. We used to feed them while we took baths in this pond. The big sellers in the tourist shops were dead scorpions and stuffed rattlesnakes. I never thought I could find the desert attractive. I lived in Devore CA. Just below the Mohave Desert and lower deserts where I spent time but nothing on earth can compare to the beauty of Death Valley. I remember these gals hooked up with some guys they met and asked me drive their MG sportscar while they rode on the backs of these guys Harley's. (I wish I'd had the girls.) We drove fifty miles away to this mesa or mountain top. “Devils” something? I forget. The air was so clear you could see all the way back to Furnace Creek and a hundred miles beyond. And oh yeah; Saw that beautiful organ in Scotty's Castle.

If all humans had the innocence of animals what a lovely planet this would be !
@pohjanakka49922 ай бұрын
Now don't forget that sometimes that innocence means they will just eat you or your pets when you happen to meet one that is hungry. Or maul each other for some other reason. There really isn't that big a difference between humans and animals, in the end humans ARE animals, with all the same desires and instincts. Food, shelter, fear of what seems like a potential threat, and since humans can, we often have worked towards eliminating that seeming threat, something animals also do...

@pohjanakka49922 ай бұрын
@@KyuuDesperation They are certainly "innocent" in the sense that they presumably do not ponder if what they do might be wrong, or right, they just go by what their instincts tell them. It is kind of weird that so many humans seem to think that we are worse than animals because we can do that, and at least sometimes will, because of that, not do something destructive, or kill, when we think it would be wrong. Animals just do. They do things like kill when they aren't hungry because hunting makes them feel good and attacking a prey they can catch without a danger to themselves just feels right to them, whether they right then might need to eat or not, they can be quite destructive to their environment sometimes too, even those of them that seem to care a lot about their offspring will abandon them when the going gets tough enough, or like with birds, push the weaker ones out of the nest if they can't feed all of them, male lions will kill all the cubs of the previous ruling male of the pride when they win that pride for themselves so that the females can be impregnated again by the new male... but they are innocent. Because they can't think that it might be somehow wrong. But yes, they don't stop to ponder about it, they just do it. Us evil humans, at least sometimes, will wonder if what we are about to do is right, and have even thought up laws that try to stop those less thoughtful of us from doing what we, as a group, have started to think isn't right. So of course we are so much worse than animals.

We had to stop as the transport prices were ridiculous and I became terminally ill. At that point we had 12 dogs and 4 cats, we moved to a secluded house half way up a mountain in West Wales, in a forest which was much closer to my wife's family, in preparation when the day came. Like you we kept the sick and others which may have been problematic. That was 4 years ago, since then we have lost 5 dogs and 2 cats, all to illness. I had two dogs that were mine, a big Pyrenean mountain dog called Nuke and a Transylvanian hound called Snoop. I lost Snoop on December 14th last year and I still miss him, but Nuke knows when I'm down and she will just be there, even spooning me on the bed. Apes of various kinds chase off intruders using sticks and stones as weapons. Crows and ravens will gang up on and torment other birds for fun. Otters rape other small animals. Dolphins pass around pufferfish and get high off their toxins. Cats kill for fun. How exactly are we not like animals? Don't buy into this make believe Disney bullshit. Animals are quite capable of being every bit as cruel and malicious as people. They simply lack the ability to do so on as large a scale.

It was always just too much for them. Then again it could have been a complete lack of oxygen that did them in. She never had a litter of her own, but she was truly grateful for the spoiling she received. I still think that she thought she was adopting those poor little babies. 😢

@SilverIchimaru so disgusting what was happening in that clip. Whoever set the dogs on that bear should be charged .
@SilverIchimaru2 ай бұрын
@JeanMcMahon-Irish It depends, I don't know the laws around bears well, but I do know they can be hunted in some places and dogs are used to help corner them. So they might not be fined for that. However, it looked to me like these dogs got out, so the owner could be fined for things like loose dogs, maybe hunting out of season(serious ouch, because it could be considered poaching potentially) you aren't as far as I know allowed to bear hunt in residential (unless it's truly self defense) for obvious reasons and who knows what else. It honestly depends on the place and laws.
@janemason15872 ай бұрын
In some places, dogs are used to frighten bears into NOT RETURNING. It's not about hunting, it's deterring. That's my impression of what may have been going on in the clip. That bear is in an urban/suburban environment. It's a bad situation.

@lgarcia672 ай бұрын
All due respect; but neither the coyote nor the mountain lion were trying to make new friends. They would kill and eat your dogs as soon as you turn around. In my area, coyotes are notorious for enticing dogs to play, even stealing their toys, the dog follows and the pack of coyotes are waiting in the bushes. Not a nice friend for sure.
