Not exactly my domain, but I appreciate you making videos like this! It definitely helps people get into the hobby. My recommendation: Cold Steel Recon 1 clip point. $40 on Amazon now. Can't beat the Triad lock and the fit and finish is really impressive. Plus the blades are super performers, nice and thinly ground. Budget knives are usually on the small side so it's nice to have a full size option.

I absolutely love the Skyline! I would also love to have one of those carbon fiber/S30V models, but currently that isn't in the cards for me. lol Absolutely perfect EDC knife for me. Very comfortable, extremely light, great price, extremely fast deployment, takes a razor's edge... like I said, perfect for what I want in a pocket knife. Kershaw Blur is a torsion bar assisted. I have had issues with it breaking because I've owned, and carried it for 5+ years but a simple email and they send you a new one (actually packs of 2) in a few days. Kershaw (Blur/Chive) is my EDC over just about any brand, to include Spiderco (Mantix) and Benchmade (Griptilian) and they have always been the most reliable. They made it through Iraq and Afghanistan and never had an issue. I know this video is a little old but good review nonetheless.

My faves under $50 are the Kershaw Volt SS, which I got for around $20 on Amazon. Really great EDC. Also the Kershaw Cryo II, about $35 on Amazon. Nice. And if you spend $50 on a Buck tactical knife you will get a really good knife, and guaranteed forever. That's for all eternity, dudes...

Great video! It's hard to argue with any of your choices. The only surprise for me was the American Lawman, only because the Cold Steel Recon 1 would be my preference. It has the G10 scales, the Triad lock, and I love the ergonomics on it even more than the Lawman. Oh, and it's definitely under $50 on Amazon. Oh wait. I also prefer the Kershaw/Emerson CQC6 - I'm not big on the American tanto for EDC. But in both cases, those are just personal preferences on minor style details within the same line.
@overlandedc10 жыл бұрын
I like the Recon1 but prefer the ergo's and size of the Lawman for EDC. The CQC6 is also awesome, like you said just a matter of preference on blade shape.

What point do you like the best for every day use on the Cold Steel Recon 1 and why? www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dsporting&field-keywords=Cold%20Steel%20Recon%201
@shotokido67810 жыл бұрын
SanFranciscoBay I'm not sure if you're asking me, but if so, I prefer the clip point, plain edge for overall utility. It cuts and pierces well, is easy to use for woods craft, edc cutting (paper, cardboard, plastics), is ideal for last-ditch defense, and is easy to field sharpen and maintain.
@sanfranciscobay10 жыл бұрын
Shoto Kido I was asking you "What point do you like the best for every day use on the Cold Steel Recon 1 and why?" and I believe you answered that. You said you prefer the Clip Point and gave your reasons why. Next question would be, other than their appearance, "What's the difference between the Drop Point and the Spear Point on the Recon 1? What tip would do better or worse than the other in every day use?"
@shotokido67810 жыл бұрын
SanFranciscoBay I'm not sure if you meant clip point, rather than drop point, because there is no drop point cold steel recon 1. If you mean the clip point vs. the spear point, I'm not 100% certain which is stronger at the tip. If there WERE a drop point version, my money would be on IT having a stronger tip than either a spear point or a clip point, but without some kind of testing, I don't know.

@overlandedc10 жыл бұрын
It is a great option, but the framelock on the CQC7k is beefy and I'd take it over the Tenacious as far as being bulletproof.
@shotokido67810 жыл бұрын
Knives, Guns, & Gear I'm falling in love with frame locks myself. I think it may be because they have such strong lockup, generally, but also because I take my blades down, clean, sharpen, and oil them myself, and the framelocks are always easier to maintain. Fewer moving parts, essentially.

esee, ontario and spyderco are all amazing knifes, i dont have that much knowledge or experience with them all, but i think spyderco is the most longlife and durable version of a folder in that pricerange. sadly here in germany 1handed opening makes them "a weapon" so not allowed to carry, a fixed up to 12cm blade is allowed...yes we are stupid :P

Sweet vid man. But you knocked the Ontario Rat 1 for having nylon handle scales. They are made from nylon-6 which is exactly what Glock uses for their pistol frames. Very tough and proven material. You def made me want to buy a few of these. Those Emerson/Kershaw's are pretty cool looking.
@overlandedc10 жыл бұрын
The knock the on nylon handles wasn't for strength, more the feel and grip of them. G10 has much better grip and a better feel.
@sanfranciscobay10 жыл бұрын
Knives, Guns, & Gear I own a Rat 1. If Ontario made the anti slip pattern on the handles coarser ie with more grip, that would make it less slippery. It's not the G10, it's the pattern on the handles that give the knife grip, correct? I also own a Rainbow Leek and it's like holding a wet bar of soap. It's very slippery, but cool looking.

Where are you finding any blur model for under 50? I think the base models sell for $55. Also, if you’re gonna feature the rat-1, go with the D2 version instead of the AUS-8 because it easily clears the under $50 price point and is a vastly superior blade. I would’ve gone with the Byrd Raven 2 over the tenacious because CTS-BD1 > 8cr13mov. I would’ve also thrown in the steel will cutjack, the Ruike P801, and the Tangram Santa Fe.

Not all of these knives you've shown were made in the USA. The Tenaceous, for example, is made for Benchmade by Sanrenmu ("SRM"), its Chinese contract manufacturer. SRM owns the Ganzo brand. So, given this fact, we should also include other comparable offerings like: Enlan EL-02 ($16~$20 delivered)...same steel as Tenaceous Enlan EL-01 ($13~$17 delivered)...same steel as Tenaceous Ganzo G704 ($16~$20 delivered)...440c Ganzo G710 ($17~$21 delivered)...440c

You obviously haven't carried that Kershaw Blur for very long, if at all. If you had you'd quickly realize that the heavily textured handles, while great for gripping, feel like 40-grit sandpaper scraping the back of your hand as you reach into your pocket for anything. Horrible design flaw.
@overlandedc8 жыл бұрын
I carried a blur for a long time. In fact I've probably owned more variations of that knife than any other.
@stvbrwn88 жыл бұрын
+Knives, Guns, & Gear I have three of them myself but don't carry them for that issue. You don't find it irritating? Maybe in shorts with big pockets but with jeans- no way.
@joshuakoonts39348 жыл бұрын
+stvbrwn8 Kershaw doesn't expect its customers to be pussies. It's obviously not a design flaw if its one of kershaw's best selling models... of all time! In order to be grippier in the hand it's coarse to compensate for its thin frame. So what if feels weird when you reach in your pocket? Cats tongues feel weird, but I still let them lick peanut butter off my nuts.
@stvbrwn88 жыл бұрын
I'm older and I know what's comfortable to me- I couldn't care less what you think about it. I can't see any scenario other than a knife fight covered in oil that I'd need that much texture. Kershaw's Leek is also one of their top sellers and it's skinnier with slick slides- one of my favorite edc's. I hope you and your cat remain so close, it's hard to find that special someone.
