In Da Vinci Resolve we have Fusion, good alternative to After Effect. For audio we can use Wavosaure, also Cakewalk for musical production and Fairlight for mixing in... Da Vinci Resolve (the best multitools software, who can also make some photographic traitment with a little workaround in fusion).

I was going to mention that DaVinci Resolve is not just a replacement for Premiere Pro, but is more like a replacement for Premiere AND After Effects. The major difference for the effects compositing is that Fusion is node-based, rather than the layer-based After Effects. If layers is your thing, there is always HitFilm which has a free version, and is both an editor and layer-based effects compositor.

I used Audacity when working in radio, years ago. It isn't perfect but for most of us, it's perfectly functional. Not a free option, but Affinity has some lower-cost (and non-subscription) solutions which parallel Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I use their Publisher (InDesign) to format books for print, and I know of a few shops which replaced Adobe with Affinity for their magazine production. It's not 100% on the changeover, but it's definitely professional quality. I got the suite on sale, paid I think $129 for all three programs. There's also a bridge between programs like Adobe uses -- so you can open a project in the Photo program, jump it to the Design (Illustrator) program, then finish up in Publisher, all in smooth transition.

Surprised there's no mention of Krita. I've been using it for years as an alternative for Photoshop. It has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it it's a versatile photo-editing program.

Krita is really a digital painting program for digital artists and painters. That’s not to say it isn’t a capable photo editor but most people would pick GIMP to do it.

Been using ShotCut for a couple years now since you recommended it. While it's not free, I use Affinity Photo for most of my photo editing. It fortunately is a one time purchase, but I have version one and they didn't include updating to version 2 as a free upgrade.

I know and have used all those free alternatives. It's been a while since I've used FoxIt Reader but another free alternatives I've used from time-to-time is LibreOffice Draw. The downside using it is that the entire office suite has to be installed. Another non-linear editor, which I currently use, is Kden Live.

Adobe does have Acrobat Reader DC if you need a PDF viewer for Windows and its free. Adobe Photoshop Elements will replace Photoshop in most circumstances and you buy it once and it will work as long as you have it installed on your PC or your Mac.

I am seriously looking for better software for my audio and image needs. I have adobes creative cloud but it’s been going up and up in monthly sub since it was first released and I get nothing for the extra. My eyesight is deteriorating and the tiny grey font on dark grey Bach ground is near impossible to read for me. There are lots of preferences to set the UI properties but you ccant change the things I need. I tried to find someone at Adobe to see if I could get some relief but I was mocked. Their support is totally useless. I’ve been an Adobe customer and certified developer for more than 25 years but only once was I able to get help from their support dept. it’s past time I chucked Adobe I the gutter and this video has given me the start I need. Thank you!

@afpwebworks, I have struggled with scaling issue with the newer high resolution monitors that are 4K and even 5K. And again after eye surgery and now in-between glasses. I have some notes that may help you. Adobe addressed the issue with better UI scaling a few versions back. I find these settings are good for me. Windows 10 System Display settings: Settings|System|Display|Scale and Layout|175% or even 200% Settings|Ease of Access|Display|Make text bigger|150% PhotoShop Preferences Preferences|Interface|Presentation UI Scaling: Auto UI Font Size: Large Scale UI to Font - checked Beyond those things you can go to any EXE like Photoshop.exe and on the Compatibility Tab Change the High DPI Settings: System (Default) or Application. I don't recommend this unless you just can't get it set up right with Win 10 and PS Prefs. Then you have to reboot to have the system re-read the settings (log-out will not work) as it is a one time setting for the EXE not a user setting.

I used to work on Macromedia Flash (it bacame Adobe Flash) and I've struggled to find a suitable alternative when it was discontinued. It was actually a great programme. @@weseehowcommiegoogleis3770 I wonder how that came to be? I worked for an e-learning company and we used Flash to teach people all sorts of useful stuff! It was very easy to use - from a designer point of vew - without having to learn code. I guess anything can be used for "evil". I mean discontinuing Flash has not removed the threat of malicious content, malware etc. Even with Flash gone, online usage is still fraught with hazards & risks, such as AI (in terms of deep fakes, misinformation etc). Was the "Flash problem" not fixable, or perhaps too expensive to fix?

Instead of Synfig, which is largely unmaintained, Krita should have been the one suggested. Also, Kdenlive is more mature and stable than Shotcut for video editing.

Krita is good but doesn't have bones for skeletal animation. An Animate and Synfig alternative would be Opentoonz.

disregarding the decision to put random bible bs in the comment section of a youtube video of all places... it is INSANE to recommend corel painter without any context. its MAYBE worth the €40ish price in the autumn humble bundle sale, but its nowhere near an affordable alternative to anything at full price, what with all the technical and registry issues. its such a poorly programmed mess that its hard to even recommend someone try the demo/trial period

@@nicodoe6181 My wife and daughter are both artists. They draw by hand. They use multiple applications and media. They have many drawing tablets when they choose to work digitally. Regardless, I only suggested some other applications to replace Adobe's software. Corel painter has bugs but is an option. I'd like to see you in heaven one day. I hope you will read and follow what it says in Romans chapter 10 verse 9. If you do, then I'll see you there.

the money i make from adobe's subscription cost is well worth it. some of their apps are rapidly becoming bloatware and the UI's are suffering with everything becoming an icon or a slider, so alternatives are starting to gain some interest.

Gimp is a suitable replacement for hobbyists, and little else. If you prefer not to be driven insane by baffling UI and general (bad) design choices cough up the shekels and go Affinity. Likewise We would recommend pairing Inkscape with Affinity Designer, they compliment each other nicely (Inkscape in particular fills in several of Affinity's more glaring gaps). Blender is an amazing (and amazingly capable) piece of software. It is not remotely on the level of After Effects for the niche it occupies. Blackmagic Design still produces Fusion standalone, a world class compositing/vfx/motion tool. The free version is fully functional with the exception of plugin use and a couple of other high end niche features. If you find you need those things you pay for them... _once_ . Please note these comments are not meant to inflame or incite. They are directed at individuals looking to be world class creators who need tools that are good for more than thumbnail creation. Please disregard everything We've said if you are not this person.

Came to say this. Affinity is pay (but you do it once) and covers 90% of my needs. Pushing the free software (it's good for some) doesn't have the continued support. Plus there are cheaper alternatives. My main gripe with open source is their inconsistent interfaces. The best success story might be blender, but it's been in development for over 30 years. Also you get a lot of stuff you don't get with this free stuff eith Adobe, when you're a professional it's important, but then again you'll pay for it.
