I liked the feminism theme of the show, but I thought the “all male directors” part wasn’t kind... When Natalie said that, it made it look like Guillermo, Nolan, Spielberg were part of the whole problem with Hollywood.. Guillermo worked for like 25 years on his movie, and to belittle him like that in the moment of celebrating his accomplishment was kinda a dick move. Guillermo is like one of the nicest people in the world and didn’t deserve that hate..

Jonas Rasmussen everyone knows she wasn't shaming the men for their work, she called out the HFPA for overlooking other, deserving female directors (Greta Gerwig, Dee Rees, etc). Everyone knows that the HFPA make bad choices and snubs every year but the fact that they awarded best picture and best actress to a film (and competed in supporting actress and screenplay) that wasn't nominated for best direction is pretty disappointing.

If people don’t understand I would compare it to say if nurses had an annual appreciation party and they handed out awards. If all the people who were nominated were female, then I snarkly said they were all women. That would imply that some men did better jobs that some of the women nominated. Not for lack of talent I would say. One study has shown that visual art students who are judged as being of equal ability, if male are more likely to pursue a career and ambition, whilst the females are more likely to second guess their chances of making it. ...A lot is conditioning - pressure to do with expected gender roles and punishment even for breaking those expectations (sexual harassment is in fact one way of males keeping power). It is society's fault for this happening and individuals for promoting or going along with these sorts of social pressures and limitations -which also hurt men, however indirectly and often less intensely.

anna sun no it wasn’t but the nominees were. And I like to list my favorite directors and I had one female on my top ten list and it was the director of lady bird. Frankly she was really one of like three women who could of made the list and deserved it. However since directing is male dominated due to women’s lack of interest it makes sense that all men would be nominated. Now if women were say 50% of directors I would be very disturbed to see none nominated. However, they aren’t, they are 7%.

Sorry, but a man would have just as much right to say it as a woman if it was all women and deserving men were passed over to make the category all women. Hollywood has LONG held a gender bias against women, and especially when they dare to step into roles that are deemed the "man's role" - and as others have pointed out, there clearly were women directors that were worthy of being included, but were passed over. One certainly has to ask the question whether that is the same gender bias continuing to rear its ugly head, and if so, then it's about damn time that we stop keeping our mouths shut about it and start shining a big old bright fucking light on it, because it is 2018 god dammit, and it is high fucking time that this shit stop.
