It's not about the nominees, it's about Hollywood and the nomination process. These guys made really great movies, sure, but are you 100% positive that women were given the same opportunities, budgets and were respected by the film companies the same way (not only these but) other male directores were? Can you guarantee me that? I don't think so, that's why her shoutout was on point.
@anstjsdlr
@anstjsdlr 4 жыл бұрын
Then do that some other places. Not on stage. Hollywood is a money cow. As long as they see money in someone's work, they don't care whether it's woman or man. You ask me how we guarantee you that female directors get fair opportunities as males do? well, ask me the question after you prove that they don't lol.
@rayaneb.freitas4626
@rayaneb.freitas4626 4 жыл бұрын
@@anstjsdlr It's quite a fallacy to answer one's question with another question. Even so, it's the lack of female directors' nominations on award shows ever since they've started doing such. That's a fact. So, I suggest we stop for a minute, look at these "most modern" nominations and ask ourselves: "HUM. What a big coincidence that only guys have been able to make great movies in the last 76 years [Golden Globes started on 1944]! I think I know a few good movies directed by women... But not so many. HUM. Why is that? Is it because women don't like doing movies? Could they simply suck at directing a good motion picture?". I think the obvious answer is no for both questions. "Then how come they barely show up at these things?" is what I ask you. Sure, some years are better and some are worse but could this kind of pattern last for 76 years based on coincidence and bad luck?
@anstjsdlr
@anstjsdlr 4 жыл бұрын
@@rayaneb.freitas4626 Sister, It's a fallacy when you argue with your statement without supporting evidence. Sure, I don't think anyone would disagree that women had been discriminated back in like 60s or even 80s. And I also agree that due to those pre-existed discrimination, we don't get to have many great female directors who might have put their name on the trophy. However, it does not mean that the discrimination is still functioning nowadays and also justify what Portman did in this video. There are not many female directors in the industry? of course, because they didn't get to have opportunities back in early days. How come those "a few" great female directors didn't win the trophy? well, they are great, but not the best. Simple as it is. I would've agreed with your first comment if you meant early era of Hollywood, but I just can't if you talk about the current generations. Maybe it is a time to get escaped from the old legends.

To this day I don't get why there is a category for male and female actors? Either you have the same for every category..or you just have one category..as it is with the directors..just for acting..and if no female or male performance was good enough than so be it..the truth is there are not a lot of female directors..that's the biggest problem..not necessarily if they are nominated or not..maybe their work wasn't good enough..they shouldn't be nominated just to be nominated..have more female directors..that's the real issue here..and by the way..who could help? Production companies..and who owns such a company? Natalie Portman.. and yes she hired just one female director..and that was herself! What a hypocrite! If you really do care for women to get more credit..then hire them...the more female directors..the more chances will be they get nominated..that same goes for black actors..they need to be hired...and the same for every other race, gender..she is such a hypocrite
