I don’t care for Moose’s Tooth, but my millennial kids all love the place, so….

I live in Anchorage. You're list is full of touristy/not anywhere close to "Best Restaurants in Anchorage. " Oh, it's Spenard ROADhouse, not ROUNDhouse. And it's mediocre. Kincaid Grill, Altura Bistro, Alaska Chopped and Chowdered, Marx Bros, Jen's Restaurant, and Whisky and Ramen are the picks for educated diners.

As an Anchorage resident, I found this list laughable. Moose’s Tooth - If you’re from the lower 48 you’ll be disappointed in MT pizza. It’s average to below average. Most Alaskans have never had a really good pizza so they have nothing to compare it to. Glacier Brewhouse - A touristy place with average food and below average beer (all of the brew houses up here are amateurish). And you better like eating with a lot of noise because there is no sound deadening in this place. You have to shout to order. Snow City Cafe - A place for yuppies and hipsters who like to tell each other how cool and hip they are. The food is basic Alaskan diner food, nothing special. Spenard Roadhouse - Their “claim to fame” is frozen tater tots. Yeah, is that lame or what? Good for a quick lunch but nothing special. 49th State Brewing - Average bar food with below average beer. But the view from the rooftop terrace is so spectacular you won’t mind the average food & beer. It is truly a 5 star view up there. House of Bread - One of the best bakeries in town. Pricy, but good. Tofu House - CLOSED. They were absolutely awful, which is why they closed. The place was gross and was half restaurant half karaoke bar. The food was ok but the place itself gave your tummy the rumble-tumbles. Simon & Seaforts - A chain restaurant so if you’re from the lower 48 you’ll be disappointed. High prices and average food. Fromaggios - We’re from Wisconsin so this place is heaven for us. Pricy but you’ll get real cheese, not the gross stuff they sell in the grocery stores up here. Because of this place we no longer have to get cheese shipped up by my brother back home. Pangea - CLOSED. This place was unique and the food was tasty but the horrendous service doomed it. A simple dinner would run 2+ hours because the servers simply didn’t care and neither did mgmt.

I live in Anchorage and Moose’s Tooth is awesome pizza. Simon’s and Seaforts will never let you down. Snowcity Cafe is also delicious. The rest are so so With Spenser’s Roadhouse being far from a top ten list.

Well, as a long time Alaskan who has travelled much in this country and has lived in places like Hawai’i and California, I have to agree on certain things, and disagree with certain things “AKO” said here. And I’ll start with a hearty (but lighthearted) “How dare you speak of Alaskan breweries this way!” For real though, Alaskan breweries are some of the finest in the country. Alaskan Brewing Co. sells its beers from one end of the country to the other! Anchorage Brewing Company (ABC) has won multiple nationwide, and international competitions! I’ve been to breweries in Seattle, Portland, throughout California, Hawai’i, Kentucky, and Florida. Most Anchorage breweries are just as good, or even better than many of the ones I’ve visited. My takes on this list are as follows… Moose’s Tooth: It’s been named in multiple nationwide “best pizza joint” lists for multiple years running. I guess the authors of all these articles don’t know anything about pizza either? Glacier Brewhouse: AMAZING food. I particularly like their cask aged house IPA. But AKO is right about the noise. Unless you get a reservation in the only sealed off room in the restaurant, you better prep yourself for a cacophony of happy customers eating, drinking, and reveling in one of my favorite restaurants here! Snow City Café: I don’t know where ya got hipster from, but any restaurant with a meatloaf sandwich that good is an easy sell to me. Spenard Roadhouse: To be honest, yeah, I’ve had some questionable meals there. And to this day, I don’t understand why anyone likes or would order their “Thai” curry when there are so many actual Thai restaurants here that do it properly. 49th State Brewing: I also have to agree with you here, and go one further, I can’t stand their food, the ambience, the sheer crowds of people packed like sardines in a can. Their baked brie should be illegal. And their beers are my least favorite of the local breweries. House of Bread: Yeah, they’ve got great stuff but it’s also a chain if I’m not mistaken. They could’ve named a multitude of other restaurants in Anchorage since the most complicated meals they provide are sandwiches. Tofu House: Tofu House did not close, they changed their name to Wonjo. However, it is my least favorite of our Korean restaurants. VIP and Home Town are a couple of my favorites. Simon & Seaforts: It’s true that it’s a chain, but it’s a rather specialized, small chain compared to restaurants like Chilis and TGI Fridays, etc. Simon & Seaforts has remained one of the premier fine dining spots in Anchorage for decades for a very good reason; five star cuisine, with five star service. Once you see the place you’ll understand why it’s expensive to eat there. Bring your SO to this restaurant for a great date, I 10/10 recommend. Fromaggios: I’ve never been there. Is it really a restaurant though? I thought it was just a place to source great cheeses. If that’s the case, why is it in this list? Pangea: God I loved that restaurant. I went there on the week it opened and kept going for the next six years until it closed. I was mildly heartbroken and so were all my friends. Their fusion of Filipino, Spanish, and American cuisines were incredible. Pangea always stood out to me as one of the most innovative restaurants in town. With all that said, I find it very odd that it was named on this list as something the creator had tried since the place closed its doors years ago! I feel like the creator of this video just went on Yelp and grabbed the ratings directly from there. And while I always take delight anytime my hometown is mentioned, I think there are many other really great restaurants that could have been named instead of certain ones on this list.

@@TheOGAlaskajosh Tofu House was at the corner of Arctic and Intl Airport Drive. WonJo has been WonJo since long before this article was written so they obviously were not referring to WonJo. I grew up in a German household where we only had the best beer. And I’ll stick to my summary - brew houses up here are awful with beer that tastes like colored water. BTW, great reviews of our local restaurants.

@@ako2account574 I stand corrected on the Tofu House! On the beers; don’t get me wrong, I’ve liked many of the German beers I’ve tried very much. West Berlin restaurant, and Café Amsterdam are great places here to try Anchorage’s German beers (for those who have not yet tried them). Since I LOVE beer, I mostly don’t have an outlook of mutual exclusivity when it comes to that, or that one style is “better” than any other, to put it another way. I’ll just finish on the subject by repeating what I said earlier: I’m a proud Anchorage-born guy, I feel like I’ve “been around the block” enough to experience what I think is great here compared to many other parts of the US, and finally even my least favorite of Anchorage breweries (49th State) has won a national competition which I think is pretty amazing for my little hometown! Finally, thanks for the compliment AKO! I thought your post had heart to it as well.

@@duaneho555 Simon and Seaforts has let me down on several occasions. I'll stop in for a cocktail and apps because of the view, but will not get a meal.
