This was a fantastically helpful episode. It's so funny - I just started this past week watching a friend's dog while he was traveling for work, and then another friend approached me to watch his pitties. He knew I had experience with difficult dogs, so he felt comfortable approaching me about.it. And here in this episode, you listed dog watching as the first item. Technically, I'm not retired, but since losing my job in a tech layoff last November, I've been living on VA disability, which barely covers my expenses, but this has been a big help. Thanks for all your helpful research!

Glad you liked it. Sorry about the job loss. Having a back up income stream is always nice. Good luck in job hunting. Are you using Rover to find dog sits?

So if I make $2098 per month and starting receiving retirement at 65 and now I am 67. How much can I make in a part time job without having the government steal my money

I'm assuming that you've reached full retirement age, since you're most likely part of the population of folks during the phase into 67. So that means you'll have $1 deducted for every $3 you make over $22,320. In your case, based on the numbers you shared (and assuming the $2098 is earned income from a job), you make $25,176 per year ($2098 x 12), which is $2,856 over the amount before deductions start to happen. So your benefits would be reduced by about $952 for the year. I know it's frustrating, but it may help to remember that social security is supposed to be a safety net with the intent to help those that need it the most, not a savings/investing account where we get 100% or in the case of the majority of us multiples more than we ever put in. 😉

@queermoney The $2098 is my retirement income. Not a job. I have been looking for a part time job because living on my retirement is impossible. I started collecting my retirement at the age of 65 but continued to work up until the 1st of April this year. And that's when I went with just retirement income.

@@daveschmitt4499Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. So you can earn up to $1,860 per month or $22,320 a year before your benefits would start to reduce. That’s a pretty good part-time income. 😉
