The second star in princess's slide was in Mario 64 too. It was the last star I needed to 100% the game back then, and I ended up having to call one of those "Videogame Help" phone lines in the back of a magazine to find out that it existed. The times before internet were scary, eh?

I’m glad someone else remembers those “Video Game Helplines”; we had to call one of them a good few times, for either: ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’, or ‘The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask’...in fact, it might have been for both of them, but it’s been so long, that I can’t remember haha. My Mam, and Dad were really into playing those games, too, so, when we got stuck, they were fine with calling, despite the expensive charge; often they would be playing Zelda when I was at school, or long, long after I had gone to bed haha. In fact, on occasion, when they got stuck: either on a tough part of a level, or a bit of a bastard of a boss, my mother would come and wake me up, and ask me to have a go at beating it for them haha. She obviously wouldn’t do it if I’d been asleep for ages, or if it was like 3am on a school night; but if I’d only just gone to bed- say half an hour, or so, before, she’d come and ask me to get them past a certain bit, because they were really excited to see what came after, and, like big kids, they just couldn’t wait until the next day; being a 13 year old, I definitely didn’t mind being woken up to play video games haha. The most memorable occasion this happened, was when they got to the final boss, Ganon; that night, my mother came and woke me for a couple of reasons: firstly, they obviously wanted me to be there, in order to see the final bit of the game; but, the main reason they woke me up- instead of leaving it until the next day, was because they’d had several goes trying to defeat the evil sod themselves, but couldn’t do it, and were desperate to see the end haha. I think it was around 2:30 or 3:00am on that particular occasion, but I don’t think it was a school night; or it might have been, but, as it was the best part of a quarter of a century ago, I can’t remember for certain; but I reckon, even if I’d had school the next day, that night, I doubt it would have stopped them from waking me up, as they/we were addicted to the game haha. So, I made my down to my parents bedroom- which was where we had the Nintendo 64 set up, so they could play ‘Zelda’, and ‘Mario Kart 64’ (which they/we were also very addicted to) before they went to bed on a night, and began the ultimate battle of the ages, with that evil big-nosed bastard; I think it took me several goes to finally defeat him (which I obviously blame on tiredness, for my initial losses haha), but, at last, victory was mine! 😀 It was a hell of a time...but I digress haha. I kind of miss those days, before the internet really took over; when you had to rely on “Video Game Walkthroughs”, and “Help Lines”, to assist you; obviously I would absolutely hate to go back to those frustrating days, but, they hold a bit of a nostalgic charm...even though, back in those days, I’d have given my left bollock, for the kind of video game assistance, that the can internet is able to provide today haha. Anyway, I’ll leave it there, as I’ve droned on long enough; when I began, I hadn’t planned on writing a reply as long as ‘War and Peace’, but, over the years, I’ve come to terms with the fact that brevity will never be my strongest attribute haha. I hope you, your loved ones, and anybody else that reads this comment of mine (if they actually make it to the end without falling into a coma haha), are managing to keep safe, well, and sane, during these fucked up times. 🤞🙂🤞 All the very best. 👍😀

The star for finishing Peach's slide with a fast enough time is in the original Mario 64... and the footage you used is actually of collecting that star. The star for just getting to the end of the slide is inside a box on the platform behind Mario. Also, fun fact, the Serious Sam thing is in all 3 of the main games.

So there's this mini-sequel game to Tomb Raider III called The Lost Artifact (or The Lost Artefact), and it has the best secret areas of the whole series. But I think the best has to be in the first level where you go inside the Loch Ness Monster, only it's actually a cockpit for controlling the "monster" lol.

Funnily enough on mention of The Talos Principle, there's one entry for "Weirdest secret rooms" - in one sub-world, there's a room that when you walk down a particular corridor after opening the door to it, you get to a room at the end where all there is is Fork Parker laughing, throwing money around and saying "I'm rich!" over and over...

the first secret area i ever remember finding was the HAL room in Kirby's Adventure! I did it completely on accident and couldn't trigger it again so I started to doubt myself until I looked it up recently

The Strange Dungeon in Might and Magic 6. This dungeon is accessed from a secret door in Dragonsand (not a place you casually visit, given all the DRAGONS there) and it mirrors the layout of developer New World Computing's office, complete with villagers named after employees and goblins named after the bosses.

Anyone else remember Toe Jam & Earl on the Mega Drive/Genesis? You start the game on a small floating island in space. You're supposed to head to an elevator to take you to the first level proper, but if you intentionally fall off the edge you land on another island surrounded by water. This is useless to you unless you have picked up some Icarus Wings further on in the game, but if you have some and equip them, you can fly to another hidden island in the top right corner of the map loaded with goodies.

Totally predictable but still disappointing that they'd include DOOM 2016 instead of DOOM 2's Wolfenstein secret levels (one being a secret within a secret). Not exactly "niche" to the millions of players who played the heck out of the original Doom games & continue to play the modern games. There are gamers over the age of 20. That being said, Doom 2016 just wasn't Doom. Doom 2016 gameplay was - Walk a bit, get locked in a room full of enemies, kill enemies, room unlocks & repeat... That's not Doom.
