How about #11: Using roughly 15 wrestlers total to book a 2 hour show week in week out. So many problems could be fixed by them actually using the pool of wrestlers available to them. They could easily add 10 wrestlers to each scene, and then: a) No more stale match ups because wrestlers could move between feuds b) No need for constantly screwy finishes because you don't have to set up yet another rematch. c) No need for 50-50 booking, because a wrestler can go on a 'bad' run and enhance multiple other wrestlers before finding some form and returning to the top of their division in a little while. d) No need to 'pad' a show with bad angles and non-wrestling stuff, because you have more options to work with. e) No chance of over exposure, because you can give wrestlers weeks off and have another feud/plain old match some air time. f) Better employee morale, because even the wrestlers who aren't flavour of the month get to actually wrestle rather than sit in catering. I could go on. Of course, this won't ever happen because Vince is a control freak who has to be in charge of everything, and doesn't have enough space in his head for lots of concurrent storylines.

This list is just everything I’ve felt about WWEs main roster since I started watching wrestling again in 2016. And I’m beyond the point of burnout with watching any of it. I was told this morning that WWE brought back their biggest current face to be a heel and their biggest old heel back to be a face against their biggest current heel by destroying their biggest old face. It’s baffling levels of overbooking that feels so cheap and like a middle finger to the fans. The wrestling, the crowd, the fans, none of that matters. WWE is not a pro wrestling company, it is an entertainment content company, and as long as people are still tuning in and TV companies are paying hand over fist for that content, you bet your ass it’s not gonna change.

The constant non-finishers on pay-per-view is the main reason I believe WWE should go back to the late-80s/early-90s system of only the big 4 (Royal Rumble in winter, Wrestlemania in spring, Summerslam in summer and Survivor Series in fall). Since the premise of Night of Champions is “every belt in the company is on the line this one night” and Wrestlemania is effectively the closest thing WWE has to a season finale, merge NoC with Wrestlemania to blow off all their championship storyline. Hell-in-a-Cell, Money in the Bank, and TLC should not be pay-per-views, but instead should go back to being occasional specialty matches to blow off major feuds, or in MitB’s case, start new ones, and maybe keep King of the Ring as a 5th pay-per-view positioned between Wrestlemania and Summerslam to introduced the main new post-Wrestlemania feuds, but other than that WE DON’T NEED 12 F**KING PAY-PER-VIEWS EVERY F**KING YEAR, especially when 2/3 of them don’t even f**king matter most years.

The thing that really pisses me off about WWE is the inconsistency in their booking / their booking standards as of late. I'd like to preface that I'm not siding with WWE or AEW, but what I want in my wrestling is the stories to make sense. WWE has really fallen off in the consistency in their booking and watching it in real time, you can actually see the product suffer from a tangible sense. Problem is, WWE can make the change and have people knowledgeable in the business and IMPROVE the current product, but they actively choose not to because they suffer from an addiction to nostalgia and celebrity acknowledgement. Sorry for the rant, I genuinely don't care about the WWE / AEW nonsense, I just want to see everyone improve, from the wrestlers all the way to the product. Only other gripe I have about current WWE is commentary and how they just don't explain certain moves / wrestler's actions and why wrestlers do what they do in a match because that hooks a person's interest and makes wrestling believable. Again, sorry for the rant everyone.

My biggest problem with modern WWE: No one is allowed a unique character/gimmick I loved seeing Cesaro in the main event slot. He deserved it...but would it be any different if Ricochet was in that spot? Or even Dominique? Not really. Sure the actual wrestling would, but you still wouldn't know who you're rooting for other than "The good guy." That's all they are. Generic by the numbers baby faces with no character to get invested in and that's because WWE doesn't care about characters. They know Goldberg, Stone Cold, The Rock, Cena all worked in the past but seems to have forgotten WHAT made them work. That's why when we do get characters we latch onto them. Eco-Heel Bryan or The Fiend or Tribal Chief Roman. They work because of the characters they played just as much as the stories and matches they were in. No one is allowed that anymore and the few exceptions are just that... exceptions

"Refs don't count out, except when they do" We see this in AEW too, but at least commentary actively push the "referee's discretion" line as a tangible reason for why
@BmanTheChamp3 жыл бұрын
That's kind of BS too when you think about it. "Well, the rule is when the match participants are out of the ring, the referee is supposed to start counting to 10 and if he does, whoever is still outside of the ring is counted out and therefore loses the match, except for some times when they don't feel like it." It kind of makes sense if the ref is out there actively trying to get them back in the ring but if he's just standing there yelling at them or doing absolutely nothing at all then it's just dumb. It'd almost be like if an umpire at a baseball game decided that for one inning he wasn't going to call strikes, if they weren't swung at. I know it's not the same since pro wrestling is scripted but since that's the case it should be scripted that if the match participants are going to fight outside of the ring they make it back in before the count of ten.

This may be one of the top 3 best lists Adam's ever done and that's saying a LOT. I thought I would need to hear or make an hour-long rant to cover everything that was pissing me off about the WWE product and you guys hit probably 99% percent of the points with eloquent, hilarious accuracy in basically 11 minutes. And the fact that it came out just hours after a SummerSlam event that basically encapsulated many of these issues is just... chef's kiss. 😙👌 I'd maybe add two things: 1.) The complete lack of focus on midcard belts. Honestly, this has something that's gotten worse as time has gone on in WWE. In the 90s-early 2000s, the IC and US titles were a stepping stone to the main event. Now they're a glass ceiling. But the Kurt/Shane 2001 glass where people concuss themselves and almost die trying to force their way through it despite the fact that it wasn't supposed to be that difficult in the first place and is only that way because somebody in WWE's office fucked up. That's a big reason why they're still relying on 'legends' to pop crowd buys for big PPVs. They've taken one of the easiest and - at least following Wrestling logic - most natural pipelines for moving guys to the main event and just... clogged it. (And don't get me started on how they've done MITB.) 2.) Using backstage politics as an excuse for keeping people out of the main event. I'm not saying wrestlers' backstage behavior doesn't or shouldn't matter - but you don't get to de-push talented people for minor offenses offscreen and then bitch later when you don't have the roster depth you'd like. Most fans probably don't read up enough to figure out why people just suddenly disappear off TV, but it contributes to the sameness of the product at the end of the day.

It's literal false advertising. "Card subject to change" is what you say when unexpected things can happen between when you promote a match and when it's supposed to happen. It's the Hulk Hogan model. WWE got big to begin with because of Hulkamania, and that has driven the company ever since. After Hulkamania it was Bret and Shawn, then Stone Cold and Rock, then Cena, then... well... nobody. Nobody's at that level now, even if Vince wants Reigns to be. There were options there in Punk and Bryan and a few other guys, but they didn't fit Vince's Hulk mold. Which, y'know, is really weird given that Stone Cold didn't either. This hit me so hard it hurts. I just recently realized I’ve had enough of feeling disrespected by WWE after being a fan for almost 30 years. I’m not angry, I’m just sad. To see something I’ve loved for so long now seem to be actively working AGAINST what I like as a fan is just so incredibly depressing. Call me when Vince is gone and Hunter is running the place. Until then, I’ll do what I can to watch AEW.

I'm so glad I stopped watching WWE and switched to AEW.

Fantastic list, you guys. Just curious, do you think you guys might consider doing a top ten list of the best wrestling cities? After the explosive return pop for CM Punk in Chicago, I think it might be fun to look at what cities have historically had the best wrestling audiences.
