Playmats for games that use a lot of cards is almost essential. I agree with "no games from Walmart". When I tell people that I play board games they almost always say something like, "Oh, you play Monopoly?". Um..... no. I call those games "Over the Counter Games". However, I have noticed that big department stores, like Target, are starting to carry a lot more games that I either already own, or want to. Catan, Pandemic, and Code Names for example. Btw, I'm not opposed to Over the Counter Games - "Sorry" is in my top 5 favorite games and that's because the way we play it it's almost a full contact sport. Tons of fun. Thanks for the list. Never thought about gaming T-shirts before

Nobody ever puts out a gift list in the middle of the year! Everyone waits till christmad, which I like too, but this was surprisingly refreshing

Great list! I have had experience with most of these and agree wholeheartedly. The first thing I do when I get any game is 3d print an insert. I also have a big stack of metal coins, the weight and "clink" make a difference! I also appreciated your note in description about encouraging 1.5 or 1.75x speed. I'm not crazy!

You might also want to consider weighted poker chips in addition to the coins. The chips are something you can use for money or victory point tokens in games.
