0:46 not necassarily on topic but hearing cari say something in korean, understanding it fully, and my brain going to "wow cari said something in korean" before even realizing I'd understood it lowkey just gave me the motivation boost I needed to keep studying. To other learners, I know it seems like a pretty easy word but understanding it so effortlessly (with the ending like !!) was mostly what got me

_Summers at Castle Auburn_ by Sharon Shinn! As far as I know this is kind of a little-known book, but it's one of my beloved comfort reads. It's a coming-of-age slow-burn romance and to me, it manages to be both quietly cozy and also deal with some pretty dark themes without feeling like it's trivializing them. And it has a kind of arc that I love where the heroine starts out young and kind of silly in a very believable way and grows into herself over the course of the book. And there is a very sensible hero. I will recommend this book forever.

Yay!!! Another Cari video!! One thing I wanted to point about the hitman POV in five broken blades - as someone from the Southern US that grew up verryyyyy country and by some standards “redneck”, it’s normal to switch around how you speak. Sometimes I say ain’t, and sometimes I don’t. I think that makes it more authentic ❤️

Untethered Sky sounds like it shares a lot of similarities with the Beast Player duology by Nahoko Uehashi, so you might enjoy it! The books follow a girl from childhood all throughout her life as she trains giant wolf-birds to be used in war and begins to question her life's work. The world building is fantastic, there's a lot of politics and focus on human connections as well as the bonds between trainer and wild animal. Despite being fantasy, it always felt very grounded to me. Cannot recommend enough!

I get what you mean about simping for the adjectives for the word count. like girl did you really “trace your lonely finger down the thick pulpy bone colored pages, taking in the words as they danced across your field of vision from left to right” or did you read the fucking spell. my approach to poetry is different the word choice is kinda the whole point but you gotta tailor the voice to the story or it’s just kind of self indulgent and embarrassing to read.

I read Five Broken Blades because of your short and my love of Six of Crows. The quality of the writing felt like bad middle grade in its simplicity. However, I read it super quickly because of that and it kept my interest well enough that I didn't feel like DNFing it even as it had so many elements that would normally be a DNF for me (like the over the top mysoginist and so many bystanders being colateral damage). It felt like a popcorn blockbuster, not much depth but a fun enough ride regardless.

Your videos spark a fire that has made me so excited to just pick up a book and READ (a fire that for a while there, was slowly dying) I picked up Library of the Unwritten because it ended up on here, and I am beyond glad I did! I just finished off the final book in the trilogy and I am completely blown away - it felt like every book just kept getting better and better and the way it all wraps up is just so perfect and wholesome. (In other words, even if the first book maybe felt a bit slow at times, Hackwith really finds her groove as they go on!) I also had no luck in april. I think I might pick up Five Broken Blades soon. The last book I read that I keep thinking about is A Magical Girl Retires by Park Seolyeon. Not My Problem by Ciara Smyth is a book that I would highly recommend that I'm not sure if you have read yet. I first read it in 2020 and I have reread it about 7 times since then. I feel like we usually have pretty similar tastes so I think you would like it. It is a YA Romance, definitely my favorite YA Romance ever, and it is just so funny! The characters are so loveable and feel so real, the plot is so full of different plotlines that you feel like they shouldn't all fit but they do, the bond between the characters is darling and the writing style and narrator's voice are just laugh out loud hilarious. It is an Irish book and I loved all of the Irish slang and humor. I love it so much and I would love to hear your thoughts on it!

This Woven Kingdom makes me so upset lol. The second book taking place in less than 48 hours and the main character saying “how dare you” 17 times within that time frame drove me up a wall. The stagnation is just too much for me. I’m glad you’ve been really enjoying it!

I would HIGHLY recommend "The Dark Days Club" trilogy by Allison Goodman, who also wrote the "Eon" and "Eona" duology. It basically boils down to demon hunting in Regency England, and has (in my opinion) a really good, slow burn, "grumpy and sunshine"-esque romance. I read it probably 3-4 years ago, and haven't stopped thinking about it since!

25:48 - I think, sometimes, people also forget that "better" doesn't always mean like superior quality and value or done more well than something else in every or any way and that "better" can actually just mean it somehow improved or did some particular things/aspects/ slightly differently in certain ways that worked for differing people and/or whatever function or purpose or service that they really wanted those things to fulfill than something else did. Lol 😅😊

I'm interested in checking out some of these! I really enjoy the way you explain books and I end up liking a lot of the same ones you do. I'm wondering how much season/time of year plays into your book choices. I'm a seasonal reader for the most part, and when possible, that extends to movies and TV shows as well. I always appreciate when a book makes it clear at the start what the time of year is, but sometimes I can get 50 or more pages in without knowing when it takes place. Your videos about fall books are great. Would you consider in general saying what season a book is best read it, or for books that extend over different seasons, if one predominates? I love imagining beautiful settings, so I'm often biased toward books where the setting is appealing and almost another character in the book. I like to say the setting draws me in and the dialogue and character development keep me interested.
