Drinking Sarsaparilla...while watching this video! The brand is Sioux City and it's in a glass bottle. It has the batwing doors on the bottle image, reminds me of the video about saloon culture!

The Donner Party did travel the Oregon Trail leaving Independence Missouri late spring using the Hasting Cutoff.

This is ridiculous. The Donner party were not even on the "Oregon trail", they were headed for California, and the Bozeman trail was not a "shortcut" to either place.

I do think the donner party were intending to find a short cut to get to farther west on the Oregon trail before winter than the original trek but they were led astray Abd as we know they were led far out of the way. They should have stayed on the trail they were on.

@@pamholloway-jw3cz Read "Ordeal by Hunger" by Charles Stewart. It's the definitive story of the Donner Party.

If someone tried to take away your land, your house, etc., you would do exactly what the Indigenous people did. The white man is the worst thing that ever happened to this land. Greed destroyed it, they murdered, they burned their tents, they killed off the buffalo. So, I don't blame the Indigenous people at all. The white man should have stayed in Europe! And the government broke treaty after treaty with the Natives, proving they could not trust the white man at all. Greed, greed, greed all from the white man. If the white man was here first, and the Natives came over and started to murder, steal, burn homes etc., the white man would have done the exact same thing to protect their land as the Natives did. So, don't go thinking the white man is anything special because he is not!

Our military also butchered the Indians: men, women, children, elderly without mercy, and while they were on their "reservations" in peace, without provocation. You might like to read Will Henry's "The Squaw Killers", the story of the day the Cheyenne women died, just for example. You could read many books about what really happened. Read about the treachery at Ouchita river in Arkansas and Oklahoma; how we forced them to march from their homes in Florida on the Trail of Tears to the midwest. How we stole their lands time after time... and broke every treaty we ever made with them. I actually met a granddaughter of Yellow Cloud --he was at the Battle of Wounded Knee, also known as the Little Big Horn, and Custer's treachery. She told me much of their history, and opened her home to me and a few friends, and showed us her little museum of artifacts of her people. I don't think "museum" is what they call it, but I cant remember her word for it. She was most kind and gracious, and well educated, and an Indian Princess if you like (or not). You could read how the settlers brought measles to the Indians around the Whitman Mission, and the Indians had no immunity to white men's diseases and died in droves, while white children mostly recovered. You could read "The Stout-Hearted Seven", the true account of the seven Sager children who were orphaned on the Oregon Trail, and taken in by the Whitmans. It is by a Neta Lohnes Frazier. (The Hollywood version has many fictions.) You could also read about the brave Wind Talkers in WW2, how the Navajo natives helped in the war effort. The Japanese never broke their "code" of their Navajo language. There are MANY accounts of American settlers and Indians that would give you a different point of view. Captives were treated kindly, and often refused to return to white people who were not so kind as the Indians.
