What camera gear do you regret buying and what did you end up getting instead?

Crap budget filters... they weren't even glass lol

exactly! don't waste your money and time on some of the bad gear I bought. I've already made the mistakes so you don't have to haha!

1:21 I am curious if this uses same diameter and bicycle handlebar grips, that grip reminds me of Oury MTB and & motorcycle grips. If they use the same standard this would mena your could change grip diameter to get best fit.
@chadwin Жыл бұрын
That’s an interesting question! Honestly I don’t think it’s the exact same diameter as bicycle grips. But I’ve never tested that. The grips also don’t really slide on and off like they do on handlebars. But you could try it and lemme know! Haha

Gear that I regret? The basecamp from polar pro, 1 month after I bought it the new lighter version came out. And in generale I would buy the vnd clip ons or screw on ones. Either the polarpros or the other brand that is magnetic, don’t remember now. Also I yet have to find out how to use a teleprompter (the latest on kickstarter which GeraldUndone sponsored the other day) while using VNDs or a matte box, nobody seems to know the answer. Your videos changed me. I was fed up with shooting 6-7 years ago and relied just on editing. You got my fire going again. I now have a full rig with pretty much everything I saw on your channel and listed in this video. I landed on Sony with the fx3 and a 24-70gm2 to start… we’ll see where the road takes me. After fleeing from Ukraine where I lost everything, we begun our new journey in Switzerland. Hopefully I will be able to go back to shooting and come out of this creative stalemate. Thank you. :) Ps: you’re my go-to for filmmaking together with mr GeraldUndone, so some stuff is from him, like my spider arms. ;)

Dang, that's always a bummer when you buy something and they come out with the updated model or a new version a few months later! I still like my Basecamp, but the new smaller version does look really cool! The screw on PMVD's are definitely super convenient. I've used VND's with a teleprompter. It just depends on the prompter. it might be harder with ones that screw on or clamp on to the front of your lens, but mine doesn't do that, it just mounts on a platform behind the prompter glass. That's awesome to hear man! I'm glad my videos and gear rig builds have been helpful in some way. I wish you the best of luck on your new journey in filmmaking in Switzerland. That's seriously insane that you had to flee Ukraine! That really sucks. I hope it ends soon.

@@chadwin Thanks man, I appreciate the answer and all you do. You're an inspiration. :) May I ask you which teleprompter you have? thanks!
@chadwin Жыл бұрын
@@FabioPansera honestly I can’t find the teleprompter I bought online anymore. Its a no name brand from eBay and it was expensive and one of the only options at the time. Now there are seriously a hundred decent options on Amazon! If I had to again tho, I might get this Neewer one because it has the mounting platform like I was talking about. that way you can use lens filters if needed, instead of a clamp on version. amzn.to/3O0jZOI

Guilty of 3 of those! The cheap fl lights, magic arms & slider! I did buy the neewer led panels, but theyre used as side lights, bought a big led spot with a big diffuser. The slider, I bought a 2nd hand gimbal, get those extra smooth shots. And the arms, well, I still use one to hold up my monitor 🙄 Oh, nearly forgot the monitor! I still use the 7" neeewer one, but im in my YT studio, so doesn't go outdoors. As for light stands, I use heavy duty disco light stands and a spigot in the top 👍😁

i really related to cheaping out on a monitor, i got a feelworld and it's not very good. but recently portkeys came out with a 7 inch that has camera control and it's bright and everything
@chadwin Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I totally get that! I used to have a Feelworld monitor as well and to be honest, they totally work for setting your focus and exposure. But where the cheaper monitors always end up lacking is their monitoring tools and how good the operating system is and how easy it is to use. Portkeys makes some great monitors and I love their camera control abilities!

Nice video bro. What do u think of casey neistat gears vs urs?
@Jyotirmayshuva Жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for this video. I own some of the gear that you recommended such as Tilta Shoulder Rig, DJI RS 3 Pro Combo, Ninja Atmos (7 inch), and BMPCC Camera. As I have seen you are using Rokinon Cine DS lens I am curious as to if you ever used Mieke Cine. I have 16,50 and 85 for now but never had the chance to compare this with other brands.
@chadwin Жыл бұрын
That's awesome, it sounds like you have a really solid kit of camera gear! I haven't personally filmed with the Mieke lenses yet but I have played with them at NAB a few times. What I like about Meike's is the full metal build quality, they seem really quality! I'd have to see some side by side lens comparisons though to see the difference in glass performance. I'm betting it's pretty similar.

same! I've bought so many ND's over the years and don't use most of them anymore. basically just used PolarPro VND now.

Polar pro is actually quite overpriced and they have really bad color shift…. sth like nisi true color is a much smarter choice imo
@chadwin Жыл бұрын
@@timruegg2743 yeah, the PolarPro filters definitely aren't cheap! What I like most about them is the Variable ND and matte box, but there is a slight color shift. I usually just fix that with some basic color correction. I've heard great things about a lot of the NiSi filters, but haven't tried them yet--I'll have to take a look!
