Hmmm, kinda missing the important context that Eccleston left after a year because of how he tried reporting workplace abuse and harassment of the ground crew during the production of his series of Doctor Who and was given a wall of silence by the producers. He decided to walk away, agreeing to go quietly, until the BBC fabricated a quote that he “left because it was tiring”. So on top of not doing anything about workplace abuse, they straight up lied to cover their own wilful negligence.

I have heard about that. The made up quote part. Makes perfect sense why he never wanted to return to the actual show and I think that should be respected. Still at least we have Big Finish audios of the Ninth Doctor that’s good enough for me. Also I think the reason why he was never able to speak out about workplace abuse and harassment was because they probably made him sign a non-disclosure agreement. Edit: Good thing Chris stood up for himself.

Also, was he blacklisted? I found this: "Because the evidence strongly suggests that the national broadcaster has blacklisted the film and its maker across all of its outlets." The BBC referenced his video but didn't link to it. I'm not sure that "he angered the BBC so much" that this happened. I remember hearing a programme on BBC radio earlier this year. They have a fact-checking programme - they'd basically outlined a number of times Boris had presented misinformation in Parliament, and explained that it was the duty of the PM to correct inaccuracies given in Parliament, but he just wasn't doing it. I suspect there may have been legal issues with some of the points on the video, because it's not like they were trying to bury the story And this was posted on the BBC last April: "The letter followed a video being posted on Twitter by the campaigner Peter Stefanovic, outlining what he called "clear evidence" of the prime minister "misleading Parliament". This has been viewed more than 12.8 million times. Mr Stefanovic has also accused the BBC, ITV News, Sky News and Channel 4 News of failing to report on the issues he raises. It smacks of BBC bashing. I have a lot more faith in the BBC as a news organisation than nearly any other outlet (especially non-news outfits where there is zero onus on fact-checking). The trouble with the BBC is that it's under constant fire from all sides and I think it's slightly hamstrung by this.

@@henrygingold6549 The BBC paid him and the other 2, 14 million pounds for the rights to Top Gear, he's appeared on Have I got News for You and he offered Clarksons' Farm to them, but they had Springwatch, Countryfile another farming programmes but declined it. He isn't banned from The BBC.

@@marcprimo1471 Yes. It was then made by The BBC. But later as govt cuts made inroads into BBC funds many popular programmes were made by independent companies. Look at things like HIGNFY, Mock The Week, etc. The credits go to "Hat Trick Productions. Many long running crime series are made by RED Productions. Anyway, that's when the three presenters became directors and shareholders of the company that made TG. Hence THEY then owned the rights to the name and format. So when the contract was ended, whether by design or natural causes, if someone wanted to make TG, they had to get permission from the owners. i.e. Clarkson, May and Hammond. Hence a £14 Million complete buy out of the rights, back to BBC Productions. If you read Clarksons' biog, he explains how they couldn't now use the TG format for Amazon. But all they did was reverse the initials and "Grand Tour" was born! Because the budget from Amazon is much, much larger, they changed from the "tent studio" after series 2/3 to what were the "Top Gear Specials" as the main theme for GT Specials. Many of the same TG staff went with them, including Andy Wilman, who was also the TG producer and is the "4th Beatle" of GT. He, Wilman, is the executive producer of GT and also a shareholder in the company that makes GT, it's called "W Chump & Sons"!

John Lydon made his comments about Savile in 1978 not 1987, and after the formation of Public Image Limited. John Barrowman admitted this in his autobiography back in 2009 and was not the only one who flashed on the closed set, so how this could become a big story in 2021 is beyond me.

John Lydon wasn't blacklisted after the 1978 interview, he appeared in several BBC programmes Jukebox Jury, The old grey whistle test etc etc in the 70s and 80s he might have been right about Savile and I'm sure he tried hard in the 70s 80s to get the truth out but he did appear on BBC. programmes.

What you said about Christopher Eccleston wasn’t exactly true… He didn’t choose to leave he was forced out, His relationship with Russell T Daveis and other fell apart because they were under equipped for the series and some of the cast and crew weren’t as experienced as it was said to be believed, Standards were really met by Chris, He found out he was leaving Doctor Who through the news papers, They reported that he was too tired and couldn’t keep up with the schedule which is a lie he wasn’t tired, The BBC and the producers basically screwed him over, The thing is the BBC has produced some incredible content over the 100 years of its career and has given the audience many wonderful hosts and actors however it is no lie that the BBC likes to play dirty and hide its secrets.

Here are the ones I know about off the top of my head… -Sheila Hancock: a guest on the new series of Just A Minute (Radio 4) -Rod Stewart: on the BBC coverage of the Queen’s funeral. -Don’t know who the Strictly pair are. Two who didn’t have their contracts renewed? Standard. -John Barrowman is currently making a series in the States. Torchwood and his episodes of Dr.Who are both available on iPlayer. -The third series of Frankie Boyle’s New World Order is currently transmitting on BBC2. -The A Word, starring Christopher Eccleston, is due to transmit its new series on BBC1 soon. I don’t see how this constitutes them being blacklisted. Cheers!

The BBC have only themselves to blame for Christopher Ecclestone only playing Dr Who for one season. He never agreed to play the character for longer than that and he did only what he was asked at the time so it was sheer arrogance of the BBC to expect him to stay on. Anyway if he hadn't have left we may never have had David Tenant taking the show to the next level. As for John Lydon, he was especially badly treated. I know he's a particularly prickly personality but he also speaks from the heart and obviously the BBC hierarchy at the time didn't want to hear what he had to say. Such a shame neither the BBC or the old bill were interested in what he was saying back in 1979 (not 1987!) as they could have saved a lot of heartache and victims. As for Barrowman I have no sympathy for, he's brought his own problems on himself. And as much as I like Clarkson for his outspokenness, he was skating on thin ice with the BBC before punching that producer and had numerous warnings. I expect the BBC were in a catch 22 when the incident happened as it was all over the newspapers. Top Gear really suffered after the holy trinity of him, May and Hammond left but to be fair I don't think the BBC had much option as what Clarkson did was actually assault and could have ended up in court.

I've become of the opposite view over My life time. The BBC was the only channel to watch, but now, I dislike the people running the BBC so much that I can only very rarely bring myself to watch it. I have a wife whom likes to watch TV. If She were not here I would not have a licence or a TV.
