So there was a reason Letterman did this, for decades the most influential celebs would go on his show and their publicist would give Dave a list of things he was NOT allowed to bring up. Eventually he got tired of the bs "how is your movie" questions and got down to brass tax because many kids looked up to these people. He had similar interviews with Paris Hilton, Donald Trump (admitted his ties were made in China after he claimed everything was from the USA) and a few others that he felt were there to not have an actual conversation behind the shield of bs. She also showed up to tape drunk apparently and this was the time where she was doing all kinds of stuff like stealing cars and not showing up to court under the guise of addiction. But I guess rose tinted glasses work better for people

@@Pack_WatchI love how people just say don't do drugs then.. thinking that everyone becomes and addict as a choice.. so many including the elderly who never used drugs their entire lives end up getting injured need surgery and are put on pain meds.. not ever trying to become addicted but happens because of legitimate pain. I had lower back surgery at the age of 25yrs old.. I was put 8 oxycodone a day for years.. when I was taken off I was suffering and had chronic pain on top and I ended up seeking other pain meds.. I am 10yrs sober now but drug addicts don't just have the desire to be a junky.. like the old commercial from the 1990s " nobody says they want to be a junkie when they grown up! "

David was always pretty disgusting live, also; Jim Varney took us to meet him several times in between shows' Not an impressive persona. JUST STAGE ACTING. Surprisingly, THIS hijacking of other producers ' videos for the VIEWS, was actually pretty well-done! Most are sloppily edited COPIES of other producers 'video clips just for the views. HEAVI's quite a silly "name" with no "valid credentials listed"...but perhaps they'll find a new name; MORE APPROPRIATE, such as OUR OPINIONS OF CELEBRITIES for example; Course using the word "celebrities" could become a detriment since anything ELSE using that title lacks quality and the public is on to them. . WHY DO WE NEED TO PAY THE "MIDDLEMAN" to poorly recopy former video clips prepared by other original producers ? )(One could list the hijackers, but ut trolls don't seem to "care." (They only "care" to delete YOU if your opinions differ with theirs.) This upside down and backwards type of lucrative endeavor should not be condoned by ANY legitimately honest social media. You may copy paste this anywhere you think someone actually "cares" about producers too lazy to create their own originals. Be our guest. People are just such hypocrites, so quick to comment about your issues, but stay quiet about their own when theirs are on the same level as yours OR WORSE. I mean, she handled that interview like a champ though, but that was tough to watch. I loved her responses too. It’s like, dude, COME ON… that’s not what we’re here for, we’re here to talk about my movie. Let’s focus. You got your jokes in, haha, very funny- BUT NOT REALLY. For those who don't know, that interviewer is Peter Overton, an Australian TV news presenter with a long career here, currently on Channel 9 (one of the major OTA channels in Australia), and for some reason this clip is often used in Channel 9 News promos for his segments as proof of his "hard-hitting investigative journalism" or some schlock. It is absolutely mindboggling to me why anyone, least of all Overton himself, would think this clip reflects well on anyone except Tom Cruise. one of the many tone-deaf things about the big news media in Australia 🙄

I’m an addiction counselor and I will say with almost 100% certainty, Letterman was responsible for her next relapse after this interview. Many addicts have low self esteem and a history of being abused. He not only made her feel “less than” he verbally abused her which could have triggered all sorts of shit that she was using drugs to forget about. All for a couple of laughs, what a terrible man, she’s at her lowest, trying to better herself and he basically told her she will fail. Sadly, for the addict, they believe that when it’s said to them.

This. As an addict myself that interview attack personally hurt. Addiction is an every day struggle. Relapses happen, but having the courage to fight your own shame for "falling off the wagon" and reaching out for help again takes immense strength. In a very fragile state of being. To humiliate her over it, echoing things she probably tells herself is so messed up it's flat out cruel. It was planting the seed for failure. And he successfully did it as you pointed out with her next relapse. My heart aches for her, knowing what it's like being in an addiction situation. 😢

Cruise was wrong then and he’s wrong now. The man’s job is to ask questions, and Tom knew there was a possibility of uncomfortable topics. That comes with the territory of being a celebrity. Cruise couldn’t handle that he had been relatively scandal free until that point, and it ended up being his personal life. Unfortunate. But fair game. To directly respond to Cruise’s comment: it doesn’t matter that it’s just the two of you in a room. It doesn’t even matter if Peter really was the only one who wanted to ask those questions. Peters job is to ask the questions and Tom’s is to answer them. Peter asked and Tom answered, albeit with a non answer. Tom Cruise doesn’t need you to defend him. And he never did.
