Nice tips! In general though, I recommend using a bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol instead. While it has a potent stink while evaporating, the trade-off is that it evaporates extremely quickly since there's a minuscule amount of water in it. :)

That's good. I use cheap vodka with whole vanilla beans (like a dozen beans in 750ml) put it in a dark cupboard for six months and you'll have the most flavored liquid vanilla you could want.
