This is the perfect lesson for intermediate players. We need general principles and rules-of-thumb. Would love to see a lot more of this as opposed to strictly position by position analysis.

Intermediate players already know that principles. The reason they play bad is because they don't consider them at the moment they should, or they ignore them to play crazy on purpose. Enhance at analysis and you will see the improvement.

@@user-qy7dc3oq2i analysis is good for figuring out why you made the wrong move in a particular position but it's not going to tell you something like "you shouldn't have traded the dark square bishop" or "you should have focused on this square" etc which is why tips like this are helpful

@@Funkadan chess is a concrete game, strategy may work in a simple positions, altho usually if you have to trade your "good" bishop you should point why using concrete sequence of moves. Knowing that the piece is good or bad to trade is a question of assessment of the position, which is a part of your analysis work.

I have been stuck at 900-1000 for quite awhile and was about to take up ditch-digging or some other mindless activity. A fellow 900-1000 player told me she just discovered Gotham Chess and I decided to give it a look. What a gift! I have tried studying with GM books etc but would get bogged down so quickly. Levy's teaching style has really made learning chess accessible. His Win At Chess Series by analyzing the thought process while playing games against players at ascending levels is BRILLIANT! I immediately subscribed and bought Gotham Chess Intermediate Boot Camp and I'm barely into it and my thought process is vastly improved. Hi, Levy! I'm coming up on 40, and I've always struggled with chess-I learned the very basics when I was young, but not how to make sense of any of it. As such the best I've ever been able to manage up until now is winning the first game against a new player, only to start losing by game 2 or 3, never to win against them again. You do know it is pretty much _i m p o s s i b l e_ for a human player to reach 4000 elo, right?? As in, literally impossible. People are already maxing out in the 2900-3000 range and you need insanely high level chess to keep those elo levels of everyone involved 'maxed out'. There's no way a human would be able to consistently beat a stronger AI and climb elo ratings that way. I'd also say a 4000+ chess AI is kind of pointless from a practical point of view, as it most likely will result in pretty much nothing but draws.

I think a good tip is to value your pawns, even before the endgame. A lot of people ignore pawns and are mostly just trying to get them out of the way for their minor pieces, but this is a huge mistake. I highly recommend protecting your pawns, especially central.

watching pogchamp trainings in the past never made me realize that each opening came with one or more ideas for the middle game. i wish the coaches would emphasize this more. it seems so obvious in retrospect but this is probably the main reason why the participants (including myself) would become so lost past the opening. Brilliant video, Levy, thank you. I loved the bit at 28 minites and 1 second. The position in the Pirc which is very similar to the Pytel Czech variation. I have started to use that structure recently. I used to played the Caro Khan, but I particularly dislike 1,e4-c6. 2.c4 creating a bind on d5. So I am using the the Pirc to bypass it. I use to average 1800 elo, but I am 63 now and have seen better days. Thanks for this.

Hey, I would like to see a video about advanced opening principles. Such as where to develop the bishops with the threats of each one. Also when it is a good idea to play c4 or f4 as white and when it is better to play Nc3 or Nf3 without pushing those pawns. Lastly I would also love to hear when it is a good idea to pin the knight in the opening and when to take it. Thanks in advance for considering my video suggestion!

1- Los planes en el medio juego tienen que salir del opening. 1:30 > ejemplo con the London. Cuando el rival desarrolle el alfil de blancas, tú desarrollas la reina y atacas el peon de b7, y para eso mueves c4. Entonces el plan está relacionado con mover la reina. 2- Tener planes con desequilibrios. Por ejemplo, si hay enroques en sitios diferentes entre los jugadores se pretende hacer una carrera de peones hacia el rey rival. Otro desequilibrio puede ser el de tener dos alfiles frente a dos caballos o a un alfil y a un caballo.
