We had an RAF Commer van thing in the 60s ... I wasn't too old at the time but remember it well in its dark blue/grey. I liked it, and whenever I see one now (rare mind you) it evokes good childhood memories.

Without a doubt my favorite one of all was number 3 the GMC that was made from 73 to 78 or 79 way ahead of itself the best even today if you can get find one which there's a lot of them still left out there and go through and do a complete restore on it you'll have a better motorhome than any of the newer ones that are being built it was just top-of-the-line back then and still top-of-the-line to this day and I wish I owned one of them I really do.

All of the dodge Rvs were my favorite I own a 1979 dodge Exsecutive se has uses a dodge m400 chassis and came with the towing package so the motor is a Chrysler 440 v8 and also an added bonus had roof top ac ,cruise control , built in analog weather station and clock as one unit , an onboard onan bfo 4.0 generator and lastly the sleeping arrangements you get two full beds and a fold down twin in the rear in the bedroom. The one I own is 20 feet or so they came in multiple lengths and configurations in my mind it's truly a high end camper back in its day

In the UK, many of the camper vans were built by a variety of coachbuilders, rather than the manufacturers, who just supplied the basic van for conversion. For example, Devon Conversions at Sidmouth imported and converted VW vans from 1956 to 1985, and Dormobile at Folkestone produced varieties of Bedford Dormobile camper vans from the 1960s to the 1990s. Other popular campervans in the UK were based on commercial van such as Commers, Sherpas, Ford Transits, Renault and Citroen vans etc. Most of the British campervans produced were rather smaller and less luxurious than many American products, mainly because of narrower rural roads and more limited expectations.

Interesting choices. Growing up we had a 1964 Ford Travel Wagon on a Ford Econoline chassis with a pop top. It was a great conversion design, but the engine was gutless at 100 horsepower and 10 mpg. It commonly overheated and was a nuisance because the engine access was between the driver and passenger seats in the front. Had many lifetime travel adventures in it despite these serious flaws.

Thank you,I liked the GMC motorhome, and the Glastron ..The others arent much good, only good for a overnight sort of thing..When going away in such vehicles,it has been my experience that you need four things most of all..They are a VERY RELIABLE vehicle, first, a shower ,and a toilet, and a bed..cooking is a lower priority..you see ,and try this using your own suburb as a example..Imagine you have driven into your own suburb for the first time as a stranger in a van..it is afternoon soon you will need to eat, wash and sleep..Now,where can we park ourselves discreetly ? Where is a toilet ? even if you find one, most are locked at night to deter vice,is there one in your suburb ? where can you shower.? thats even more difficult..And where can you sleep safely..maybe there is a motel somewhere but..as for food, you can nearly always find something to eat at a fast food outlet, cafe etc..but shower, toilet, and bed are harder to find...next problem.is discretion you need to be able to live on your vehicle without attracting attention from nearby residents, police, council ordinance officers and petty criminals..in this regard the two vehicles have drawbacks as they are a bit too identifiable as motorhomes..
